To me, I always sort of interpreted this song as about a guy who once had a girlfriend and they both really got each other and coped with their pain together. “The dark scares me so…We’re nothing apart…Let’s stay friends forever.”

For the verses the guy is almost in doubt that the girl has moved on from him and is pretty much desperate for her to trust him that things will be okay eventually if they stay together. Then when the chorus comes, he gets hit with the sad reality and somewhat acceptance, and the grief of losing her, along with the everlasting fear of what’s to come. And he wonders if he’ll ever find someone like that again.
Anyway, I think this really is a beautiful and heartbreaking song about the grief of breaking up with someone and begging for them to come back, though you know deep down that it’s genuinely over (not to mention that this is the final track on the album). It almost gives me the chills, and the symbolism of “facing the rain” perfectly captures the song.

Pretty sure it's about a bunch of people plugged into a blood machine who would rather not be.

So these lyrics are just fantastic. In honesty the music is fine but its pretty typical 90s alt rock. It doesn't really sonically offer to much. But the lyrics are just unbelievable.

My interpretation is this a song about existentialism from the perspective of a homeless adult and child. They have nothing to do but aimlessly walk around in their dirty clothes, count cars, and think about the meaning of life.

I think he is talking to himself. There is a divided self he is at odds with, one has his best Interests in mind and the other doesn’t. We don’t always make the best choices and we often regret the ones we make or don’t make. He is talking about a relationship that has failed and he has to come to terms with it. “Are you feeling happy?” He has experienced an implosion of self, he was too cowardly, meek and afraid to trust his instincts and go for love and truth. “Dirt shoveled over shoulders”. He has no one to blame but himself. I love this song for it’s vulnerability and I relate it to my own experiences.

This track explores the theme of perseverance despite repeated setbacks and emotional pain. The lyrics convey a sense of opening oneself up to vulnerability, only to be repeatedly hurt and pushed down. However, the song's core message is about finding the strength to push forward, even to the point of self-destruction, to overcome adversity.

Can't edit: "Thought about someone else, but neither one could debate" Should be: "We thought about someone else But neither one took the bait"

In my personal opinion and interpretation this song is about a guy who broke the love of his life's heart by telling her that her dreams will never come true and no matter how much sadness she went through she'll never give up on her dreams because she can accomplish them.

In my humble opinion this song is about a guy who loves a girl so much he tries to prove himself worthy as a lover for his romantic partner.
