This song refers to a war between those with religious restiction and those without; namely, Satanists against the rest. Anyone who has read the works of Anton LaVey can see this, especially in these lyrics:

Dimmu Borgir is an awesome band, but this would be one of there more "Genuine" Satanic songs. Others such as "Tormentor of Christian Souls" I think is written purely to shock.

I loved this song from the first moment I heard it, even with not being a dark metal fan. This sort of thing always seemed inferior to other metal, but hey, that was before I found Dimmu Borgir, who are far ahead of others, including dark metal stereotypes Cradle of Filth. I personally view it as a song about an army battling against a rebellion, or a heresy whereby a power wants control over all, and those who cling to religion are being wiped out as a result.
i agree it IS about the satanist agaisnt the other religions but this song is bad unless u have the one where they dotn repeat the first 2 verses i like the uncut video it really enhances the song

Yeah, definately a lot of modern Satanic influence here, pretty much every line after Vortex's vocal bit is ripped from modern satanism (I say modern instead of LaVeyan just because the "Hunt the bastards down" part brings to mind the order of the nine angels more than the COS, a little more extreme form of satanism than LaVey's, ...but then again, killing and death in black metal killing and death are never really considered that extreme within black metal, hehe)
I liked the instrumental version (the classical one on the 2nd disk) as well, although eradication instincts's was better imo
