Let's Dance Lyrics
Let's dance
Put on your red shoes and dance the blues
(Let's dance)
To the song they're playin' on the radio
While colour lights up your face
(Let's sway)
Sway through the crowd to an empty space
And if you say hide, we'll hide
Because my love for you
Would break my heart in two
If you should fall
Into my arms
And tremble like a flower
Let's dance
For fear your grace should fall
(Let's dance)
For fear tonight is all
You could look into my eyes
(Let's sway)
Under the moonlight, the serious moonlight
And if you say hide, we'll hide
Because my love for you
Would break my heart in two
If you should fall
Into my arms
And tremble like a flower
Let's dance
Put on your red shoes and dance the blues
(Let's dance)
To the song we're playin'
(Let's sway)
Under the moonlight, the serious moonlight
Let's...
Let's...
Let's...
Let's sway
Let's...

This is about a romantic caballero at a party with his sweetheart who only wants to do two things with the lady (a) hand her The Crystal and (b) slip her The Pistol.
the part about the running and the hiding is about leaving that stupid party so they can be alone together
the serious moonlight -- he is going to propose to his sweetheart by the light of the moon, making their relationship more serious and significant.
fall into my arms and tremble like a flower -- To celebrate their engagement, he is going to make love to her in such a way as to bring her to an intensely pleasurable sexual crescendo that leaves her quivering and feeling very delicate and tender, like a rose petal.

@CuteSparkina Ha! This sounds reminiscent of another comment I read under John, I'm only Dancing...was it you?

There is a cover of this song by M. Ward, which is fantastic. It accentuates the sadness of it. I love the original, but the cover is definately something worth listening to.
Thanks for make me aware of this notable cover... which he rarely does but gives his own interesting touch to this Bowie classic. Like night & day for sure but still wonderful to turn a former dance hit into a heart-filled ballad.

"Under the moonlight, the serious moonlight"
Love it

a good one

I heard it was about sophistication and trying to be someone you're not.
The video reflects this - a girl has red dance shoes on, but kicks them off at the end, deciding she prefers living without them.
Then again, it could just be about dancing.

When the "tremble like a flower" part comes on the second time in the song, I just love how Bowie almost yells "flow-ah!" Oh, it's so raw. A damn good tune, I say!
i totally agree. i'm not an english speaker, but that "flower" part sounds starkly amazing to me, too :D

Awesome guitar solo

put on your red shoes and dance the blues!
I love when the girl is singing this from the movie "Eagle vs. Shark" (the movie is so intentionally stupid that it's hilarious) and she says "do the blues" instead. The guy corrects her, but she keeps doing it.
