Blackest Eyes Lyrics
Sometime in the future the boy goes wild
And all his nerves are feeling some kind of energy
Something in the trees that made you cry
It's so erotic when your makeup runs
I got books that I never ever read
I got secrets in my garden shed
I got a scar where all my urges bled
I got people underneath my bed
I got a place where all my dreams are dead
Swim with me into your blackest eyes
Should be so beautiful if we can
I'm feeling something taking over me
I got books that I never ever read
I got secrets in my garden shed
I got a scar where all my urges bled
I got people underneath my bed
I got a place where all my dreams are dead
Swim with me into your blackest eyes

This song is goodness and should be played over and over until your ears start to bleed.....then play it some more

The song is a snapshot of the mind of a serial killer. It is upbeat because it is taken from the point of view of the deranged killer, to which everything seems normal. If you raise the volume, you will hear a second layer of vocals in a more scratchy and deeper voice. This is the real dark and scary voice of the serial killer. "It's so erotic when your makeup runs" refers to the victim crying before his eyes. However, to the serial killer's twisted mind, it's a beautiful and erotic sight. The chorus refers to bodies or trophies of victims in his garden shed, books he read but misinterpreted, scars he'd gotten accomplishing his sexual misdeeds. It's a messed up song, but sang and played beautifully to paint the normalcy of actions seen through the eyes of the killer.
@dashrendar did he kill himself?

I know the theme of the album is allegedly about a serial killer, but you really could interpret this song pretty innocuously. Just all about a kid who's growing up, feeling for a girl, maybe his first, maybe not. He's seeing his own "loose wiring", things that don't make sense. This doesn't necessarily imply mental illness. No one's perfect. But, as for "blackest eyes", it's about him recognizing his own dark side - and he wants her to embrace it with him.
A mother sings a lullabye to her child (in the past) Sometime in the future the boy goes wild (jumping to the present) And all his nerves are feeling some kind of energy (sexual)
Walk in the woods and I will try (maybe reminiscent, maybe hypothetical) Something UNDER the trees that made you cry (this could be ANYTHING - I honestly never, ever thought rape until I came here) It's so erotic when your makeup runs (well I admit, it sort of is, and this is a wonderful lyric)
I got wiring loose inside my head (don't we all? who is society's perfect robot?) I got books that I never ever read (simple fact, maybe alluding to procrastination or pointlessness) I got secrets in my garden shed (why "garden shed" in particular? could mean anything.) I got a scar where all my urges bled (ah, don't we all?) I got people underneath my bed (admittedly, this lyric doesn't make much sense unless it's being jocular or literal) I got a place where all my dreams are dead (again, don't we all?) Swim with me into your blackest eyes (he just wants to let go and indulge with her his deepest fantasies)
A few minutes with me inside my van Should be so beautiful if we can I'm feeling something taking over me (and this whole verse basically sums it up)
Overall, yes, a pretty perverse, sexual interpretation on my part. Better than rape, though.

This song is about rape or desire, or both.
Lyric analysis:
"A mother sings a lullabye to her child Sometime in the future the boy goes wild"
"He" is the singer himself (I don't mean Steven Wilson, I mean the "narrator" of the song, you know). This is kind of retrospective, he remembers when he was young. "The future" is the present here, because it's all retrospective.
"And all his nerves are feeling some kind of energy."
He feels the strange feeling everyone feels when he wants to screw a girl =)
"Walk in the woods and I will try Something in the trees that made you cry It's so erotic when your makeup runs."
He rapes the girl in a forest. She cries, but he just thinks "Ah, that looks erotic". The only thing I'm not clear about is why there's something "in the trees" that made her cry and not "under the trees". I believe this line HAS a meaning, I just don't know what.
"I got wiring loose inside my head I got books that I never ever read"
Wiring loose in his head means that he's mentally insane. Don't know why he thinks that of himself, that's not quite normal. Anyway, again the other line is something i don't quite understand.
"I got secrets in my garden shed I got a scar where all my urges bled"
He raped people in his garden shed. I don't know what the scar thing means, however.
"I got people underneath my bed I got a place where all my dreams are dead Swim with me into your blackest eyes."
The people underneath his bed are the ones he already raped. The line is more of a metaphor, I don't really think he's got people underneath his bed. It means that he hides the secret that he raped someone. "Swim with me into your blackest eyes" means "Sleep with me" or something like that.
"A few minutes with me inside my van Should be so beautiful if we can I'm feeling something taking over me."
He also wants to screw her in her car. The lust is the "something taking over him".
That's my interpretation. it's maybe a bit dirty and I'm not clear about everything, but as a whole, that's the song's meaning IMO.
I agree with your interpret. I would add that "Something in the trees" actually stands for "something under the branches of the trees", a metonomic device of the author (trees for their branches, which represents what you can't see from the air > God>correctness (branches block the view) and which is what you stated: rape.

the first time i saw these guys, they opened for yes and i thought they were amazing...theni heard this song somewhere and i was hooked....

In case you didn't know, In Absentiais a theme album about a serial killer. I think that this song among others tries to capture the serial killer's train of thought. For example "Ive got people underneath my bed, I've got books that never ever end" possibly relates to a torturer/serial killer such as the BTK killer
Fred West, seriously. I'ts about a persone like him- He kept people inside his wall in his house and under floor.

im pretty sure its about rape. well... a serial rapist.
And murder. A persone who torture, and rape his own children, yeah.

Anyone notice that he's not actually singing 'eyes' but 'eye'?
"Swim me with me into your blackest eye", hmm..I wonder what that could mean....
@Kustard1337 I'm thinking it's another word for grave.

@Kustard1337 The song refers to "It's erotic when your make up runs." So, chances are, it's talking about the black eye makeup rubbing off and coloring the eyes.

agreed, preferably as loud as possible.

This song has so many layers. And most of them are beautifully sadistic. "It's so erotic when your makeup runs" Gets me every time.
