With Teeth Lyrics

She comes along
She gets inside
She makes you better than anything you've tried
It's in her kiss
The blackest sea
It runs deeper than you dare to dream it could be

With teeth
She's holding on
With teeth

Wave goodbye
To what you were
The rules have changed
The lines begin to blur

She makes you hard
She comes on strong
You've finally found
The place where you belong

With teeth
She is the greatest lie of all

I can not go through this again

With teeth
She is the greatest lie of all

She will not let you go
Keeps holding on

This time I'm not coming back

to me this song is describing something, such as a relationship or a drug that has such a power that it just rips through your soul and changes you. the lines are basically like what you were and believed before (like a barcode) but then this "thing" comes along and the lines blur and change they are no longer the same and you are different

the title then refers to that the album has that same driving effect and power

this song screams addiction. this song describes the first phases of addiction. its so hard to let go of. it def. comes with teeth, it bites at you everyday. takes your money, dignity, pride. it fuckin bites back. its a hard thing to go through. thats why he sais I cannot go through this again...cuz its a bitch. the verses explain it al.....the line blurs...from things you used to do the way you used to be to things you've changed into, you find yourself trying those things youve said youd never do. you change the rules of your life....and she will not let you go.....this songs so true

I love that most Nails songs can have so many meanings depending on who is listening and the place they are in life.

The obvious theme here is a woman/relationship, but I agree with a few others here that think it can be applied to anything that someone loves that hurts them. Drugs ring a bell here. A few lines in the song are very close to normal drug references and/or their effects on a person.

I put up a comment on Genesis - Tonight, Tonight, Tonight with the same sort of vague interpretation of being addicted to SOMETHING. The songs are closely related and were blatantly pointed out to me by the Kleptones mashup containing both songs :)

My Interpretation

@psyconius very much could be interpreted as about a lover or drug ... love is a drug??

Oh my god...i lOve this song and its one of thee hottest songs ever. The beat alone just has this dark, seductive hotness to it and I'd love to see a music video to it to see how hot it could really turn out. haha had to say it.

But the lyrics> I personally believe its about a relationship. mainly the sex He's saying how she's the hottest girl (in all sectors) he's ever been with and at the beginning everything seems really good. It seems like there's this no strings attached feel to their relationship and she's being mysterious with him and thats turning him on too. The 'With Teeth' part is about how she's got ahold of him and he likes it. Then something in him makes him want to stop their 'thing' maybe he has an actual real girlfriend that he's with and that seductive girl he had on the side made him 'wave goodbye to what he was'. When he says 'i cannot go through this again' i think he's feeling guilty and he's trying to end ties with that 'other' girl and she doesn't wanna let go.

Or maybe in his head all the memories he has of that girl won't go away and he dreams of her. It could be that this past girl keeps haunting him in his dreams and he wishes he still had her because she was perfect in his mind. Maybe dreaming makes him say 'i cannot go through this again' he misses it all too much.

AHHHH!!! so hot! and no its not about drugs

My Interpretation

For some reason I seem to be one of the few who took an instant liking to this song. The first time I heard it it hit me hard in face, stomache and chore and I thought "Man, that's exactly how I feel!", and this was after only 30 seconds.

To me this is NIN's My Sweet Prince. Yes, I prefere With Teeth, and it has a lot more to offer when it comes to power, intensety and emotion, but they're both often mistaken for love songs (I compare With Teeth to MSP and not the other way because I found MSP earlier, not because it's better). Now I don't really find this strange, as love, in many cases, is just as easily addictive as drugs, and almost easier to abuse. As Trent is a genious, I don't think he was oblivious to this, and used "she" instead of "it" so more people can relate to what he was going through. Now I don't claim to know anything about losing a drug habit, but I do know how fucked up you can get on love, and I know how hard it is to quit. To me, being in a relationship ment not having to be alone with myself. You never have to handle anything on your own, and the world seems less terrifying. Hell, while in a relationhsip you don't even have to love yourself, the other person does. What I'm talking about is the fear of facing the world alone, and while in a relationship or on drugs you don't have to (well, while on drugs you don't have to face the world at all). Now I'm not saying that this song is about fearing the world, because it's obviously about how hard it is to get out of a drug habit. It's holding on to you with teeth.

Another absolutely genious thing about this song is how it's devided into two extremely powerful bits with one weak and vulnerable part in the middle. To me it seems that the vulnerable part represents how weak Trent felt while realizing he had to quit, or while quitting, and the intense parts represents the power the drug had over him. The last part might represent both the power of the drug and his own though, it could be a real combat scene for all I know.

Still, this song is incredibly sexy.
