Paper Walls Lyrics

Let's burn a hole so we can climb out
Of these paper walls and this empty house
Don't listen too close; their words are like guns
With bullets that fly and kill what you've won

Let's burn a hole so we can climb out
Of these paper walls and this empty house
Where the only thing that's real
Is visions we have of ten years ago
Of stars in the sky and us down below
With streets and east coast lines
We kept this scene alive

Here I am
I still hold on to this dream we had
I won't let go of it
Hear me now
You will never be alone

Don't listen too close; their words are like guns
With bullets that fly and kill what you've won
Some love to hate and some tell you lies
So let's make a toast and kiss them goodbye
We'll kiss them all goodbye

Here I am
I still hold on to this dream we had
I won't let go of it
Hear me now
You will never be alone
Here I stand
Won't turn back again, won't leave
You know how hard its been
Hear me now
You will never be alone

Let's take what hurts and write it all down
On these paper walls in this empty house
And when our ink runs out
We'll burn it to the ground

Here I am
I still hold on to this dream we had
I won't let go of it
Hear me now
You will never be alone
Here I stand
Won't turn back again, won't leave
You know how hard its been
Hear me now
You will never be alone
Yeah

It should be "Won't leave you" after "Won't turn back again", not "Won't let go".

Great song.

This is one of the best on the new album... I've had it on repeat for an hour. To me it seems like they're talking about trying to fit in in LA and how people are always out to take down anyone who's a perceived threat to them. They're trying to stick to the reasons they formed a band in the first place... their music.

well the whole part: "let's take what hurts and write it all down on these paper walls in this empty house and when our ink runs out we'll burn it to the ground"..

well "what hurts" could be anything from criticism to verbal abuse, depending on how the song would relate to you in particular. then when the ink runs out, that means that you've gotten all your problems out, and when you burn it to the ground, you're kinda getting rid of the memories.

SYMBOLISM. i like. =]]]]]]

ooh and by the way, what does everyone think of the choir part in the beginning?

I really think it's great. it just goes to show you how much their sound has matured in just a year.

"Let's take what hurts and write it all down On these paper walls in this empty house And when our ink runs out we'll burn it to the ground"

OMG AWESOMENESS!!!! sounds like someone desperately needs an escape from hurt/pain. "...in this empty house" makes it seem like it has to do with trouble at home. :P

Let's burn a hole so we can climb out Of these paper walls and this empty house

-This lyric is confirmed to mean that the band members have had rough times, symbolically saying there are walls between them. This album was written about the time before they found themselves again, where they burned the walls down and forgave and forgot.

Where the only thing that's real is visions we have of ten years ago

  • My guess is Ryan's look upon the original Yellowcard, and they're Jacksonville life. Yellowcard was formed in 1997.

Of stars in the sky and us down below With streets and these coast lines We kept this scene alive.

  • My guess is the fact that they broke from the pact, got famous, and encourged other bands to do the same.

Takes a few listens to really get into this song, but this song has one of the most uplifting chorus I've ever heard.
