Kriss Kross Lyrics

When the moon's in the sky I like it
When the moon's in the sky we like it
It's not gonna give us bad advice
So go and dance with your thunder and lightning
Where the paradise birds are fighting
Let's shake things up a bit tonight

Are you coming out tonight?
Are you coming out tonight?
Cos we're going out tonight
And we won't be cattle on your farm tonight

Ask yourself why
Come on, ask your man why
Cos you're ugly and you lie
And you kriss kross kriss kross
It's a lie
So bye bye bye bye bye bye

Are you coming out tonight?
Well come out with us tonight
Cos there's wrong and there is right
And we know which one we are tonight

Ah don't start crying now
Don't go crying now
Cos the moon is gonna dance for us tonight
Don't go dying now
You're not dying now
And the sky is just not close to us tonight

And as for you, friend
High in your high home
Watching us all falling down like rain
I hope you're happy
Feel really holy
Cos your godliness has taken every single thing I loved on earth tonight

Oh I won't let you leave me
You're all I've got, believe me
Stay
Don't close your eyes
Nobody really dies
They all just end up in the sky
So far away

I guess the interpretation of a lost friend could work... but I'm more inclined to see this as abit of a rant about religion, and possibly by extension, God.

"When the moon's in the sky I like it When the moon's in the sky we like it It's not gonna give us bad advice So go and dance with your thunder and lightning Where the paradise birds are fighting Let's shake things up a bit tonight"

This has a joyous almost pagan celebratory aspect to it. They're simply going to celebrate simply because they exist.

"And we won't be cattle on your farm tonight"

This is about as blatantly non-conformist as you can get. Combine the first verse and this line and you have a defiant celebration (as opposed to just celebrating).

"Ask yourself why Come on, ask your man why Cos you're ugly and you lie And you kriss kross kriss kross It's a lie So bye bye bye bye bye bye"

This is really angry and I think specifically refers to Christianity, and more specifically Catholocism. He is essentially saying from an Atheist point of view that religion is unnecessary ("as yourself why") and then I think very cleverly layers the symbolic sign of the cross that Catholics make infront of their heads and bodies, with an evasive tactic that most religious types might use in arguments for why religion is necessary "and then you kriss kross kriss kross kriss kross".

"And as for you, friend High in your high home Watching us all falling down like rain I hope you're happy Feel really holy Cos your godliness has taken every single thing I loved on earth tonight"

Well I'm kind of surprised that noone saw this as a blatant criticism of either the religious leaders or the idea of God itself. The singer is angry and expresses this in very strong sarcasm: "I hope you're happy, feel really holy", and then goes on to say that everything he loves has been taken away or tainted by either religious doctrine or god itself.

The last verse makes me think that the 'lost friend' theme is correct and could be incorporated as part of the criticism. A real kind of visceral anger with God that then stems back to the fact someone he cares about is being taken away and he hates it.

Very good & logical breakdown of the song.

I first had a problem with the synthesizer they´re using throughout the whole song cause its sounds like a hip hop sort of thing. After a few listens, it didn´t bother me that much and come on, the last two minutes of the song are stunning.

can not wait for their second full-length

mm, I love it now :D I still haven't got used to Get Over It, which is a lotttt weirder than this. the last bit (from 'don't go dying now') seems to be to be his lover dying, him cursing god and then grief.

The bit where the .... is sounds like 'cos there's wrong and there is right' to me, but I may be completely wrong.

I think you're right, actually! It sounds right and it fits..

First, I think it is a wonderful song :D I like the music and the upbeatness of it - it just makes you wanna dance under the moon ;)

I'm not too sure what it is about though... It seems to be a bit about just daring to have some fun and not to stay at home and "behave". But then on the other hand there is this story-line about some good friend, maybe lover, dying... I guess DeltsSunlight is quite right about him cursing someone up above and feeling grief, trying to live with it by thinking nobody really dies .

Confusing lyrics, wonderful song ;)

great song...i sort of wonder it's about a dead friend potentially coming back to earth to visit as an angel or at least that's what he feels like. not sure though it also could just be personifying a feeling, i.e. evil.

either way definitely is an amazing song.

'And as for you, friend High in your high home Watching us all falling down like rain I hope you're happy Feel really holy Cos your godliness has taken every single thing I loved on earth tonight'

This is one of my favourite verses of any song. But I'd swear it's 'gobbiness'. As in, big-mouthedness.

Yeah, this is almost certainly about his disillusionment with God after losing somebody he loves. Probably Christianity more specifically.

'We won't be cattle on your farm tonight.'

He's referring to God as if He were some kind of farmer, treating His subjects poorly like cattle - after all, if God could so easily take away somebody he loves, how could He ever truly care? He's refusing to be part of that system.

'Cos you're ugly, and you lie, and your kriss kross kriss kross'.

I interpret the 'kriss kross' as God treating people like numbers on a sheet, crossing them out one-by-one with no regard for feeling - people die indiscriminately and for no good reason on Earth, and if God were truly caring, why would he treat them this way?

'When the moon's in the sky we like it, it's not gonna give us bad advice / So go dance with your thunder and lightening'

We may as well pray to the moon because it doesn't pretend to be high and mighty, it's not going to teach us to follow the Christian way and pray only to find our loved ones are taken away from us. He's telling God to go and 'dance with your thunder and lightening', as if God displays all this power and might but it's all for show, because in the end, He doesn't do anything that really matters.

'And as for you, friend, high in your high home, watching us all falling down like rain. I hope you're happy, feel really holy, because your godliness has taken everything I loved on Earth tonight.'

He definitely is saying 'godliness' here, it's the only word which works in context. And these lines pretty much speak for themselves. God watches us drop like flies whilst pretending to be mightly and holy.

'Nobody ever dies, they only end up in the sky, so far away'.

Here he's finally back into self-denial, convincing himself of the Christian theology, letting himself believe that Heaven exists and his loved one hasn't really died, they've only moved into the sky to wait for him. This is the only way he can move on, and get past his grief.
