Knowing Me, Knowing You Lyrics
Silence ever after
Walking through an empty house, tears in my eyes
Here is where the story ends, this is goodbye
There is nothing we can do
Knowing me, knowing you (ah-haa)
We just have to face it, this time we're through
(This time we're through, this time we're through
This time we're through, we're really through)
Breaking up is never easy, I know but I have to go
(I have to go this time
I have to go, this time I know)
Knowing me, knowing you
It's the best I can do
They'll be (they'll be), with me (with me) always (always)
In these old familiar rooms children would play
Now there's only emptiness, nothing to say
There is nothing we can do
Knowing me, knowing you (ah-haa)
We just have to face it, this time we're through
(This time we're through, this time we're through
This time we're through, we're really through)
Breaking up is never easy, I know but I have to go
(I have to go this time
I have to go, this time I know)
Knowing me, knowing you
It's the best I can do

Yes, I am a closet Abba fan. How will I ever live it down???

I found this quote in the book 1000 UK Number One Hits by Jon Kutner & Spencer Leigh: "Bjorn has since denied that the lyrics had any bearing on his own situation. He claims, “Even if the roots are somewhere deep inside, from something that has happened to you, it’s still 90% fiction. I just work from images. I saw a man walking through an empty house for the last time as a symbol of divorce.”

This is a really sad song, yes. One of the saddest by mostly bubblegum ABBA. More than just a simple relationship, it must have been a marriage (or a very serious relationship). They lived together. They're singing about the empty house where children "would play" - thus a family was in the plans. Now it's all gone.
mmm i dunno i think the song can be about any romantic relationship that ends be it very serious relationship or marriage. It pretty much says that at the end of it and when theres no going back all you can can do is move on and leave the person behind no matter how much it hurts. It's over and your/their dreams of a loving blissful relationship are shattered but you have to move on regardless. It's a pretty clean cut brutally honest song about the nature of breakups.

so sad song, about a relationship ending

Actually, this song is about Agnetha and Bjorn's divorce. Frida and Benny weren't even married yet.

Here's a different take for you. When this came out the civil war in Lebanon was at its height. The song just made me think of the different communities that use to live together, now locked in conflict, the mixture of rage and sorrow, incomprehension and yet knowing the others so well. Instead of an empty house, it was a wrecked country.

This Song is great, especially when ur singing is whilst completely wasted with a nice chick! :)

this song is about divorce, I think it may be about Frida and Benny's though
