60 Miles An Hour Lyrics
You'll never guess the things that I do
I'll have the devil round for tea
Don't you know that I'm here beside you
Can't you see that I can't relax
When I saw you in my rearview
You could've stopped me in my tracks
I'll stand by your side like I always do
In the dead of night it'll be alright
''cause I'll be there for you when you want me to
We can worship pagan idols, there together you and me
Why don't you run over here and rescue me?
You can drive down in your car
Why don't we both take a ride and turn that key
We'll drive at 60 miles an hour
I'll stand by your side like I always do
In the dead of night it'll be alright
''cause I'll be there for you when you want me to
I'll stand by your side like I always do
In the dead of night it'll be alright
''cause I'll be there for you when you want me to
I'll stand by your side like I always do
In the dead of night it'll be alright
''cause I'll be there for you when you want me to
I'll stand by your side like I always do
In the dead of night it'll be alright
''cause I'll be there for you when you want me to

He's a guy who put himself in a very complicated situation just because he has driven his 'car' at top speed, I mean he has commited a lot of crazy things on his life! And that's the reason why he wrote the line "I've had the devil around for tea". Meanwhile his lover has taken a calmer life, so now he's knocking on her door for finding some comfort ("I don't know if I told you / But I'm seeking sanctuary"), despite the fact he's not exactly regret for this behaviour, on the contrary, he seems to want to take her together with him along one of his crazy 'trips'...
"Can't you see that I can't relax? When I saw you in my rear view You could have stopped me in my tracks"
I think he's suggesting she's the only person in the whole world able to make him reduce his 'speed'.
Regarding its chorus ("I'll be there for you when you want me to / I'll stand by your side like I always do / In the dead of night it'll be alright / Because I'll be there for you when you want me to"), I think it's a quite shameless one if you compare it to the rest of the lyrics, since he admits he's making her suffer on living his life at this way, but at the same time he's telling her everything tends to be fine in the end of the day...
"Why don't you run over here and rescue me? You could drive down in your car Why don't we both take a ride and turn that key We'll drive at sixty miles an hour"
Another shameless verse... He's simply begging her to go to where he is for saving him from himself, but she cannot accompany his crazy rhythm (!)... This Barney...
I see this song from a very different perspective. This is a guy who feels stuck and there is someone who can offer him a way out. He is not the one who will be doing ANY of the driving, it is the woman who is (or who he wishes was) his lover.

He is sitting BESIDE her in the car, he is infatuated with her and somehow steals a glimpse of her in the rear view mirror (as you do). He wants this experience again:
"Why don't you run over here and rescue me?...We'll drive at sixty miles an hour"
Its not that he wants to just take from this woman, there's something he's offering in return for rescuing him:
"I'll be there for you when you want me to I'll stand by your side like I always do"
This song, like so many others on this album seems like it is about a relationship that the singer desperately wants to work out, and he'll offer anything to make it happen.

This song is awesome, I haven't thought about the meaning though. Great videoclip from what I remember. I haven't really listened to a lot of new order but what I have heard is good.

Sixty miles an hour is pretty darn slow

One of my favourite songs my New Order, hence my username on this site :D

you've left everyone speechless, high five.. "stiff kittens" might be the answer to this song
