Taste the Pain Lyrics
In a lonely sprawl
I stare at the ceiling
Because I can not fall
Asleep tonight
No not at all
Head lights flash
Across my bedroom wall
Crying eyes open
Because I can not fall
In love with you
Walk away and taste the pain
Come again some other day
Aren't you glad you weren't afraid
Funny how the price gets paid
Like a brittle stick
I can not drink
Because my throat constricts
Lovesick from you
That will never do
Open my mouth
I couldn't make a sound
I could not scream
I could not shout
It out to you
Nothing to do
Come again some other day
Aren't you glad you weren't afraid
Funny how the price gets paid
I have to take a walk
I have to kiss it goodbye
Goodbye my love
Goodbye my love
I am not alive
Come again some other day
Aren't you glad you weren't afraid
Funny how the price gets paid

I just couldn't let this song have no comments. It is a great song, one of the best on Mother's Milk.

what is wrong with you people? this song is awsome, one of their best and no one commented on it! i love it.

most of the people here don't know who the Red Hot Chili Peppers are, they know the by the way peppers

evidentally this was written by anthony after hillel's death. he rented out a boathouse and shut himself in, apparently doing the last of his heroin and creating this song. thats what i heard, anyway. seems to fit..... saying goodbye to his love, both slovak and the drugs. great song.

wow~ this song is awsome!!Anthony Kiedis is so hot...and he has been influencsed by so much! and yeah i do think this song was written about the time he was trying to get clean~ "funny how the price gets paid"< I think hes basiclly just saying, how he didnt know what was happening/what he was getting into...and afterwards the price he had to pay for his mistakes was not what he had expected

this song is great!!!!!i love flea playin' the trumpet, of course anthony wrote this song after hillel's death

I love this song, it's simply packed with emotions, espcially since it's about saying goodbye to his love (drugs) and Hillel, of course.

Tony wrote it after Hillel died. "Aren't you glad you wern't afraid" is about how he never thought he didnt really think of what could ahppen to him or his friends. "Funny how the price gets paid". The price that was paid is Hillel's life. He's walking away from drugs and feeling the pain of losing Hillel. He was off drugs for quite a while. In rehab the therapist guy or whoever said that only one person out of the whole thing would stay clean from then on, and Anthony swore hed be that one person. Too bad he was wrong. But he is off them now. I love this song.

great tune, great meaning, also great way kiedis portrayed his feelings. 'goodbye my love...' its obviously him saying goodbye to drugs and hillel like Ryu_bread said.

awesum song!!!! love everything about it, it's very cool and relaxed
