I think the message is that too many people spend their lives simply trying to get by, and forget to live the way they want to.
I think it's actually about people who are too lazy to do something with their lives, because they know there's no real point to it, so they just dig themselves deeper in a hole of poverty and whatnot.

i agree with you guys when you say its about a guy who just trying to get by. but also it can go for anyone most teenagers such as my self all we do is go out and get pissed etc.. and in the end its the same thing every weekend .... "as i stumble home"

This song was my gateway, I thought it was their best, then I bought all 5 albums and BAM I fell in love with about 100 more songs, I can never decide what my favourite song is
i can totally relate to this song. there was a point in my life where i'd bum around all day just to get drunk all night. luckily it didnt get much worse than that, but its so easily to live life that way and you forget what you're missing out on and whats really important. alcohol (and drugs in general) and great in moderation, but when you take it too far it becomes a big problem.
