Savoy Truffle Lyrics

Cream tangerine and montelimar,
A ginger sling with a pineapple heart,
A coffee dessert, yes you know it’s good news,
But you’ll have to have them all pulled out after the savoy truffle.
Cool cherry cream and nice apple tart,
I feel your taste all the time we’re apart,
Coconut fudge really blows down those blues,
But you’ll have to have them all pulled out after the savoy truffle.
You might not feel it now
But when the pain cuts through you’re going to know, and how.
The sweat is gonna fill your head,
When it becomes too much you’ll shout aloud,
But you’ll have to have them all pulled out after the savoy truffle.
Know that what you eat you are,
But what is sweet now turns so sour.
We all know ob-la-di-bla-da,
But can you show me where you are.
Cream tangerine and montelimar,
A ginger sling with a pineapple heart,
A coffee dessert, yes you know it’s good news,
But you’ll have to have them all pulled out after the savoy truffle.
Yes you’ll have to have them all pulled out after the savoy truffle.

I have a unique theory about this song. I think it's George poking fun at McCartney's songwriting, which John often thought too saccharine. "We all know ob-la-di-bla-da" (Paul song) "but can you show me where you are." And the title line itself "Savoy Truffle" -- "Savoy" is a reference to the retro early-century style Paul loved to noodle with in songs like "Honey Pie." In other words, many of Paul's songs are just confections with as much musical value as candy has nutritional worth. I also think Lennon's "Wild Honey Pie" on the same album is a cruder, blunter (typical John) shot at Paul's too-sweet "Honey Pie."

I completely agree that this is a jab at Paul. It is disguised, of course, since Paul and George were bandmates, but these guys were at odds in a big way. George talked about how he resented "Oh Blah Di Blah Da" making the album ahead of his songs. Can you blame him? Paul's song persona was very sweet, but he was not always the same guy in real life, it seems. George was calling him out.

Not Valid

your theory may or may not be true John and George were always jealous of Paul. But tough to give your opinion credit when you don't even know that both Honey Pie and wild Honey Pie are Paul's

Not Valid

lol, Wild Honey Pie is actually also by Paul.

It's about hubris, vanity, over-indulgence, going too far.

'Savoy Truffle' is the ultimate high: so sweet, you'll lose all your teeth.

But you just can't help yourself.

worth mentioning the heroin/opiate refs (ginger sling, might not feel it now but when the pain cuts through, sweat)

I'd always gone with the Clapton sweet tooth thing, but I kind of like this idea about it being a comment on Paul's songs

worse habits like stealing george's goddamn girl clapton you fugger, youre "blistering" solo on while my guitar gently weeps is like grateful dead noodling or some shits. eric clapton is a great guitar player and a great songwriter, but he's boring. geroge's solo would have been way better....

lol. I always thought: "But you’ll have to have them all pulled out after the savoy truffle. You might not feel it now But when the pain cuts through you’re going to know, and how. The sweat is gonna fill your head, When it becomes too much you’ll shout aloud"

like getting a cavity filled and candy rots your teeth. :(

There is a line which refers to what is sweet now taste so sour. there is a line from the Revelation of John that describes small scrolls that John was commanded to eat that had the same effect. that they @ first tasted sweet but later tastes sour. There is also reference to the sweats is gonna fill your head. Both of these suggest another type of candy which Eric (&others) were rather fond. that is the nose & arm candy otherwise known as heroin. so perhaps the wisdom is just like the drug, it starts off sweet & when it comes too much you will shout aloud.
