I listened to this because I was in the mood for it, but the melody was so trite that it failed to garner my interest. The words seemed to devour any last bit of hope from my bones, and left me shriveled like someone who's awaiting a cause. I didn't feel in league with a freeway, highway or bypass, though that's all I could do with this tune, ie: bypass it. What it's about is anyone's guess, but like D'yer Mak'er, it's forced nature leaves a bad taste on my flesh.

In the early days of the Smiths, Morrissey made a generalization about the girls he found "pretty" (that they make graves) because of a narcissist who was reeling 'round the fountain, finding another man upon the sand, and he couldn't believe that she ever cared.

Who's to say if drugs are good or bad. Your brain naturally releases dmt a psychedelic ffs. If it were bad it wouldn't be in our bodies at all? Shrooms all up in the Bible. Indians/peace pipe, all tribes/cultures/hospitals use drugs period.

God beats his challenge at the end of the album delving into the nature of existence to discover he is truly the creator of all life and it will be the best forever after his challenge. From 2019 where God hadn't done his challenge yet, 7empest was a message that it will be just a "tempest", but after, listening again in 2025, 7empest plays revealing the interpretation "a tempest must be just that", is about understanding all metaphysics to prove he is God and then his challenge that there was a tempest in the years in between has passed and...

Mockingbeat though is just some birds mocking him still somehow as he is learning to accept himself as God after his challenge. A voice says about the birds after "that's fucked up" but it is simply a catharic mocking to finish the album because God must man up and prove to the world now he is God.

The Girl is a metaphor for mainstream society. That's why in the video the Girl is viewed from different time periods - 1950s through to 1990s. It's all the same girl, she just asks him to do different things, to love him absolutely, follow her trends, and inadvertently lose himself. He doesn't say she's evil, or not worth loving, plenty of other people will. He just can't follow along with everyone else. He's free of the restrictions of thinking and being like society tells him to be. He has other interests, other things to do. ...

"Go to another party and hang myself" social suicide, knows what he's doing is wrong but can't help himself. Seen some people talk about aids, so probably that

There's only been one performance of this song that we know of so far, damon at the start mentions he wrote the song in 1992 (hence the name) yet didn't release it till the album 13. The song is a metaphor of regret and possibly about being replaced by something, "you'd like my bed, you took the other instead", bed could be an indication of comfort and his comfort not being chosen for whatever reason

Another jumble of words from the Youth that add up to a lyric to paste onto the music. Does it make proper sense is the whole purpose of this site. I say know. I love the band, too, but their lyrics are always as extreme as the music they make. It might be about a relationship/media comment ... or it's about a piece of gum on the pavement. You decide. Sonic Youth went through a patch of treading water, and this album was in that period. You decide.
