For all things that I’ve done and said
And I don’t know if it’ll ever be ok to show
My face ‘round here
Sometimes I wonder if I disappear
See if I’m gone
Cause I fear
That you wanna hear
That you wanna know
I think I should go
The things I’ve done are way to shameful
A helpless victim of a spider's web
And I'm an insect
Going after anything that I can get
And don't look back
Cuz I fear
To you
That you wanna hear
That you wanna know
I think I should go
The things I’ve done are way to shameful
Treated you bad
Strung you along
Oh shame on myself
I don’t know how I got so tangled up

please allow me to clarify, as I was thinking of this just today... The idea is that the entire mess of the relationship is a tangled web. He's an insect that is chasing after whatever he wants ( as insects do, and that's how they get trapped in webs) and she is just some innocent thing that happened to be caught by the web as well. He feels that he was more deserving of the entanglement, but she shouldn't have had to be in it. Therefore if she gets the chance to get out, she ought to run as far awy as possible so as not to get caught again.

I find it interesting that the lyrics say: "A helpless victim of a spider's web/ and I'm an insect..." The only way an insect would ever have anything to do with a spider's web would be if it was stuck! (Spiders aren't insects, they're arachnids. Insects have 6 legs, arachnids have 8... etc.) So even if Adam Levine meant that the girl's a victim of a spider's web and he's the spider who's coming to eat her (or whatever), what he ended up saying was they're both insects who could end up tangled/are tangled in someone else's web. That could make sense, except the rest of the song implies that it's all Adam Levine's fault. ("...the things that I have done and said," etc.)
...Though of course, the name of the song is "Tangled." Maybe Maroon 5 IS talking about two insects tangled in someone else's web. (I doubt it though.)

Oooh I quite agree with what Val said. And anyway, maybe they are talking about two tangled insects in someone else's web. I mean, who said Adam and Jane couldn't have had a lurve triangle... or, dare I say, three some.

there's a line or two missing.....about the spider's web......

consider it fixed! your welcome ;-D
by the way-- love the song. it's fun!

i agree with what winteronyx said, i think that he was just tryin to get sumthin he wanted..her..but he ended up hurting her because he was selfish and hes trying to help her out

I always consider this song to be about friendships... Do you know when you really hurt a friend unintentionally with actions and/or words and you stop being friends? He is trying to tell his friend he is really ashamed about something he did and he feels nothing he says or does will make it better so he just leaves...

oh btw my favorite song in "Songs about Jane" it's really really good.

no, adam isn't sayin that he is the spider (i don't think) maybe, but he'd be kind of stupid

I'm pretty sure he's just saying that he cheated on her. He knows he shouldn't have done it, but it just happened so fast he couldn't stop it. He wishes it hadn't happened but he can't undo his mistake.
