See You Soon Lyrics

So you lost your trust
And you never should have
But you never should have
But don't break your back
If you ever see this
But don't answer life
In a bullet proof vest
With the windows all closed
I'll be doing my best
I'll see you soon
In a telescope lens
And when all you want is friends
I see you soon

So they came for you
They came snapping at your heels
They come snapping at your heels
But don't break your back
If you ever say this
But don't answer life

In a bullet proof vest
With the windows all closed
I'll be doing my best
I'll see you soon
In a telescope lens
And when all you want is friends
I see you soon
I see you soon

And oh, you lost your trust
And oh, you lost your trust
No, don't lose your trust
And oh, you lost your trust

At the time I heard this, I was living 200 miles away from my boyfriend. We had an arguement and in a desperate attempt to reconcile things, I travelled the 200 miles to see him. While I was on the train, this song hit a note :)

My personal belief is that the song is about the monologue of Love.

The speaker of the song is Love itself which asserts what it believes must be happening to the listener.

>

  • Losing trust - phase one The listener, whoever that may be, appears to have lost trust that he/she will ever find love, possibly due to the long delay. Love is trying to assert that it has not "forgot" about the listener:
  • So you lost your trust And you never should have

  • Losing trust - phase one The listener, whoever that may be, appears to have lost trust that he/she will ever find love, possibly due to the long delay. Love is trying to assert that it has not "forgot" about the listener:

Taking cover from love - phase two The listener, cloyed by the waiting and finally...

  • Taking cover from love - phase two The listener, cloyed by the waiting and finally resigned to the thought that he/she will never find love, is trying to actively protect himself/herself by avoiding any real life situation that might bring back the hurt and disappointment in love. Love, once again, is two steps ahead and asserts that no matter how hard you try to hide from me i will see you and find you eventually, at the right time so please don't lose trust:
  • In a bullet proof vest With the windows all closed I'll be doing my best I'll see you soon

  • Changing goals and sublimating - phase three The listener, now fully resigned to the idea that love, ever so desired, hasn't yet arrived, is trying to cope with the aftermath - it sets lower goals in personal relationships ("just friends"), all the while sublimating the need for intimate affection and affiliation with the love of friends:
  • In a telescope lens And when all you want is friends I see you soon

As a songwriter/performer I believe it is Chris's intention to make music that can touch a wide range of people. By not using names and being vague and general about the topic or issue of the song allows Chris to reach out to a wider demographic of people in various different situations. The songs meaning in turn can be interpreted in many different fashions and none of the different reasoning's would be considered incorrect because everyone see things differently. I believe that this song is a masterpiece because of the different interpretations you can take on the meaning of this song. It could be Chris talking about the frusterations with the papparazzi, troubles of a celebrity life, someone in a abusive relationship etc. This is my take on the song.

"So you lost your trust And you never should have But you never should have"

Lost your trust/faith in yourself because you are torn between two people. Feeling horrible because you know you have a hard decision to make in the near future which will involve emotionally hurting one person. Things were going fine but now you don't know what happened but you don't feel the same. You feel like you never should have lost those feelings in the first place.

"But don't break your back If you ever see this But don't answer that"

Don't stress yourself and break down, If you ever see this - when you discover YOUR meaning behind the song

"In a bullet proof vest With the windows all closed"

Bulletproof vest meaning Being hard/fine on the exterior and protecting your broken/torn/tormented heart on the inside. Wearing a vest to not get hurt anymore. With the windows all closed meaning not being able to talk to anyone about your situation or the inability to be able to allow someone to look into your "window" so that you they can see your soul and understand what is happening with you.

    "I'll be doing my best"

Trying your best to hold it together.

    "I'll see you soon"

The ever hopeful sounding I'll see you soon. Everything is better when your with that someone.

"In a telescope lens And when all you want is friends"

Telescope lens meaning longing to be with someone but can't right now, so just watching from a distance/being just friends when you want more And when all you want is to be able to talk to someone about this.

"So they came for you They came snapping at your heels They come snapping at your heels But don't break your back"

Due to being so tormented on the inside it starts to show on the outside a little and they start asking you what is wrong. But because its not the right time to tell them, you tell her nothing is wrong hiding the truth. Don't stress yourself out/break your back and be fair and end it with them so that you can be happy.

"And oh, you lost your trust And oh, you lost your trust No, don't lose your trust And oh, you lost your trust"

Keep your head up and don't loose faith in yourself.

People can bash or disagree or the fact is, there is no right and wrong.

    My Interpretation

@anonymous333 it's an interesting interpretation but I think it is unlikely about dealing with fame cause this song is from their very first single 'The Blue Room' after which the band might have gained the recognition. but yeah, it's an interesting interpretation

Cover art for See You Soon lyrics by Coldplay

A heartfelt and melancholy regret expressed to one's unfaithful lover. Makes me cry, a lot - as I sent it to my boyfriend after breaking up with him because he cheated on me. For me, the lyrics and the tone - very sad, fit perfectly.

So you lost your trust, And you never should have, no you never should have,

She lost faith in the relationship, in him, and was unfaithful. He maintains she never should have...as his love should never have been questioned by her, she made a mistake

But dont break your back, If you ever see this,

Don't break your back bending over backwards apologizing if you ever understand this - 'see' this

    Dont answer that.

This is a preemptive "Don't answer that"! As in - he doesn't want to fight anymore

In a bullet proof vest, With the windows all closed, I'll be doing my best, I'll see you soon,

He will need a lot of armour to protect himself, but would be willing to don it to see her. When he does, he will do his best not to remain strong, and not break down in front of her. He will need his armour both because he is vulnerable to the pain of seeing her, and perhaps because she is still wrathful, hence the bulletproof vest

    In a telescope lens,

In other words, he may resort to observing her from a safe distance, just for the opportunity to see her

And when all you want is friends,

When all she wants is to be friends and they've finally let their romance go

    Ill see you soon.

He longs very much to see her, is perhaps trying to convince himself he'll see her soon because he's anxious, but I think more likely telling her to be patient while he heals

    So they came for you,

Here, I suspect her other lovers are those who came for her

They came snapping at your heels, They come snapping at you heels,

As though her male lovers were actually evil dogs chasing/tempting her, that she had little choice to submit too them, or at least justified herself to him by saying this

But dont break your back, If you ever see this,

Again, don't break your back bending over backwards to make amends if you ever understand this - that you ruined the relationship for men that were not worth it

    Dont answer that.

Again, the resigned - "Don't answer that", because he doesn't want to fight anymore

In a bullet proof vest, With the windows all closed, Ill be doing my best, Ill see you soon, In a telescope lens, And when all you want is friends, Ill see you soon,

Here there is actually a long note heard, that sounds very much like a mournful and pained crying, which really brings home that this song is about abject heartbreak

Ill see you soon. I know you lost your trust, I know you lost your trust, Dont lose your trust, I know you lost your trust

I wish I would have seen your response first as I just finished typing out almost the exact same thing! Anyone who has ever cheated and regretted it, or been cheated on, knows that this song is about that, word for word.

it seems to me like the person singing it is acknowledging that they made a mistake by doing averything but saying sorry. like the line "you lost your trust and you never should have" meaning they realize they should never have done what they did to you. but on the other hand i also had the thought of maybe it being over a minunderstanding and the singer saying you lost your trust and you never should have because it was a misunerstanding? i dont know, i think i like my first one better.

I agree. I just posted a long response to the song, but I think in the song, the singer is acknowledging breaking someone's trust and wishing he hadn't.

I think this is about a person who has been hurt in the past and can't trust anyone again. They feel like if they open their heart up, even just a slither, all the people around them will stick a needle in. The singer sees this and assures them that when they are ready, that they will be there for them.

Like any other coldplay songs, they managed to bring emotion into their songs which the listeners often relate to..

I guess this song represents the fear and desperation one must feel when faced to a difficult and somewhat traumatizing situation, that in the hardest of times you need to have someone close to accompany u, cause as simple as it is, nobody can survive alone..

"In a bullet proof vest With the windows all closed"

So much hurt that u hesitate to ever open yourself up to the world, fearing that the desperation would just repeat itself..When that time comes, i'll see u soon..

Combined with Chris Martin's vocals, this one stays permanent in my playlist!

I don't know what this song means to Chris. When I first heard this song it was the most beautiful song I had ever heard. And still is. Coldplay's best, by far. But around that time my best friend died and what it meant to me was that after he died I didn't trust anything anymore. I got paranoid about how life really is and all this just came at me like a gust of wind and what it means to me is that I've gotta protect myself until my time comes because I will see my best friend again. I know that's probably not what it's about at all but if it were me that had written the song it would be totally relevant to my situation.

This song is simply amazing. it is one of my favorite coldplay songs. coldplay can never cease to amaze me.

this song reminds me of loosing someones trust, whether it be from lying, cheating, or disrespecting them...the person singing is trying to regain everything back but the person hes talking to is too different from him now. although he is trying to patch everything up the other is too scared from the past, keeping "all the windows closed" because they are scared they will be hurt again. (wow did any of that make sense)

    this songs amazing <3

This song is about a turtle in hybernation, who's in a bullet proof vest with the windows all closed. He can only peak through a little whole and is waiting for warmer weather to see his owner soon.

When the other turtles come snapping at your feet, don't break your back. Sincerely, Mr. Turtle.
