Tight Connection to My Heart (Has Anybody Seen My Love?) Lyrics

Well, I had to move fast
And I couldn't with you around my neck.
I said I'd send for you and I did
What did you expect?
My hands are sweating
And we haven't even started yet.
I'll go along with the charade
Until I can think my way out.
I know it was all a big joke
Whatever it was about.
Someday maybe
I'll remember to forget.

I'm gonna get my coat,
I feel the breath of a storm.
There's something I've got to do tonight,
You go inside and stay warm.

Has anybody seen my love,
Has anybody seen my love,
Has anybody seen my love.
I don't know,
Has anybody seen my love?

You want to talk to me,
Go ahead and talk.
Whatever you got to say to me
Won't come as any shock.
I must be guilty of something,
You just whisper it into my ear.
Madame Butterfly
She lulled me to sleep,
In a town without pity
Where the water runs deep.
She said, "Be easy, baby,
There ain't nothin' worth stealin' in here."

You're the one I've been looking for,
You're the one that's got the key.
But I can't figure out whether I'm too good for you
Or you're too good for me.

Has anybody seen my love,
Has anybody seen my love,
Has anybody seen my love.
I don't know,
Has anybody seen my love?

Well, they're not showing any lights tonight
And there's no moon.
There's just a hot-blooded singer
Singing "Memphis in June,"
While they're beatin' the devil out of a guy
Who's wearing a powder-blue wig.
Later he'll be shot
For resisting arrest,
I can still hear his voice crying
In the wilderness.
What looks large from a distance,
Close up ain't never that big.

Never could learn to drink that blood
And call it wine,
Never could learn to hold you, love,
And call you mine.

I was eighteen when I first heard this song. While I know not many people care for Dylans' stuff from this period, I liked it just fine.

This was one of my favorites when I was 12...not sure about the whole song's theme but it seems tp me the last verse alludes to the persecution of gays by society, and that he had never been able to adjust to it during his Christian period. I do know that Allen Ginsberg was one of the first people who Bob played it for after it was written.

If you haven't heard it, there's a version with alternate lyrics on the "Bootleg Volume 3" called "Someone's got a hold of my heart" which is just as good.

wow i thought i commented this earlier! such a good song; very overlooked. it's not exactly a "masterpiece" but it's definitey one of my favorites. like someone above said, a lot of people criticize dylan's 80's work but i love it. i like the bootleg version mentioned above too.

i never could learn to drink that blood and to call it wine. i never could learn to hold you love, and to call you mine

I've been a Dylan fan since 1966 when I bought Blonde on Blonde for Like a Rolling Stone and got 1000 times my money's worth when I heard the rest of the album. For a while I could say I owned all of Dylan's albums but it seemed he'd record them faster than I could listen to them. And I can't understand the hate his 80s work gets. Empire Burlesque is near the top of my list. But there's no accounting for taste.

I doubt that there's any audiophile ever who could say they love every Dylan album. But I think I can say that every Dylan album I own - 32 of them - has at least one gem. And most have at least 5.
