Heart of Mine Lyrics
You can play with fire but you'll get the bill.
Don't let her know
Don't let her know that you love her.
Don't be a fool, don't be blind
Heart of mine.
You got no reason to wander, you got no reason to roam.
Don't let her see
Don't let her see that you need her.
Don't put yourself over the line
Heart of mine.
It'll only be trouble for you if you let her in.
Don't let her hear
Don't let her hear you want her.
Don't let her know she's so fine
Heart of mine.
She'll only give to others the love that she's gotten from you.
Don't let her know
Don't let her know where you're going.
Don't untie the ties that bind
Heart of mine.
Give you an inch and you'll take a mile.
Don't let yourself fall Don't let yourself stumble.
If you can't do the time, don't do the crime
Heart of mine.

Ohh beautiful. I adore this song. Has anyone heard the Norah Jones and Peter Malick Group cover? It's brilliant!

This song is perfect. whenevah i like somebody i act crazy, and i hate it when i go crazy and make a fool out of myself. and i say, "heart of mine, be still."

the song really is beautiful BD writes a m a z i n g lyrics. However, in terms of the situation, it's all about people's foolish pride. Life's way too short to use force to make ur heart be still ya know...

I love this song. Seems to be about his longing for a girl he knows doesn't want him. He tells himself not to show his hand so to speak. Don't declare your love for her because she isn't interested. Makes me think of a girl I love right now. So sad.

i always get the feeling his heart is the excited jovial music because the lyrics are trying to persuade his heart not to open up to this girl but love cant be tamed and i think the music is so mirthful compared to the lyrics.
what a poet though

i sort of got the feeling that he's already in a relationship but his heart is wondering off

To me, it's about the anxiety that comes with love. The music is celebratory and upbeat which juxtapose with the melancholy lyrics of repression. "Don't let her know..." Falling in love brings back memories of failures and heartbreak so, although his heart is filled with the euphoria of love's bliss, his head tells him not to let on how he feels so as to avoid more pain. Great song on an over-looked album. (There's also a fantastic live version on Biograph.)
