Midnight Blue Lyrics

Ain't got no regrets
And I ain't losin' track
Of which way I'm going
I ain't gonna double back, now

Don't want no misplay
Put on no display
An angel? No!
But I know my way

I used to follow
Yeah, that's true
But my following days are over
Now I just got to follow through

I remember what my father said
He said, Son, life is simple
It's either cherry red or...

Midnight blue, oh...
Midnight blue, oh...

You were the restless one
And you did not care
That I was the troubled boy
Looking for a double dare

I won't apologize for
The things I've done and said
But when I win your heart
I'm gonna paint it cherry red

I don't want to talk about it
What you do to me I can't live without it
And you might think that it's much too soon
For us to go this far into the...

Midnight blue, oh...
Midnight blue, oh...

Things could be different
But that'd be a shame
'Cause I'm the one who could feel the sun
Right in the pouring rain

I won't say where
And I don't know when
But soon there's gonna come a day
I'll be back again

Yeah, I'll be back for you
Ya see, I'm saving up my love

Midnight blue, oh...
Midnight blue, oh...

It's a love song. He is finally not apologizing for the mistakes he's made and he's got his ducks in a row. He's going to prove it to the one he loves. :)

Midnight Blue is a song about determination.

We've all been there: There's someone we have feelings for, but we don't think we've done the right things or are "good enough" for them. Maybe they're out of our league, or maybe they gave us a shot and we screwed it up. But dang it if we're not going to keep trying, right?

I feel like Midnight Blue is a song about the moment when you say, "I'm not giving up. I care. I don't want this to end and I'm going to do whatever I can to win you back and prove I'm worth your love."

It's about reflecting on our whole being, including who we are (the things I've done and said), our upbringing (I remember what my father said), our past mistakes (I ain't got no regrets, I won't apologize), then deciding, for the sake of all of that, it's worth it to lean into our feelings (I just gotta follow through) and go for the glory, the cherry red. To do that? Sometimes, you have to throw caution into the wind and drive out into the middle of the night, the midnight blue, to do the silly, desperate thing with no one else's help and, against all odds, try to win someone's heart.

It's about optimism, too, though any level of determination revolves around some optimism. "I'm the one that can see the sun right in the pouring rain." I can see us figuring out how to be together, even though we're not. I'm saving up my love. Soon there's going to come a day, I'll be back again. No, not there yet. But I'm going to figure it out. Determination.

Add in the driving synth and guitars with drums that are almost marching, and it becomes a song about being determined to go out and prove you're good enough to deserve someone's love. We've all been there: That moment when you know the chance is coming to make a good impression on your crush, maybe the one that takes it from a crush to more. When you're in the car on the way to do that? Midnight Blue is a good soundtrack.
