I see two messages in this song:
1) Don't be mainstream, be yourself, come out for what you believe, listen to what you like and let others know what you like.
2) Don't be different, just to be different. Act like yourself under any circumstance. Don't be a poser, cause generally the non-posers hate them.
I am neither Metal nor Punk, I like a lot of Music styles including stuff like Linkin Park, Trust Company, etc. but also Anthrax, Killswitch Engage, etc. I'm a Greenday-fan, but still mourn about Dimebag Darrel too. I fit into neither of those groups, I've been kicked out of bands because I didn't adjust to their 'image', I've been beat-up by others who thought of me as a poser. Even if it seems hard, be yourself. You'll feel better and the people close to you will appreciate you for being genuine and pure.

I guess that it is relating to how people try to be "different" by pretending to be someone else who they aren't. And the result is, in a manner of speaking, a shelf full of "iNdie-cred" Fred's, or empty clones of one another because it is trendy to be "different" and not because it is what they want or it is who they are.

The typical "gangster". The guy who acts street and talks street. But he lives in a nice house/has never experienced what the life is REALLY about. He isn't packing guns he is just concerned with his image.

I believe this song is about how people act when they are in public. How they try to do what is cool or what it latest trend is. Yet when they are home or alone they dont really act like that. I think its about how people try to be fake and something that theyre not.

well... i think that this song is about people who dress and act the same singling people who are different out and making them feel excluded. "When did they assume putting on a costume gave them the right to ostracize?"
I think it's about how everything new + original gets turned into a mainsteam trend + also how people shouldn't feel inferior if they don't follow the trends.
I read in an interview this song's about the hordes of lame scenesters ruining the music scene etc etc etc
This is about the anti-conformity fashion becoming popular and how those who dress that way to be cool are just as bad as those who dress like gangstas to be cool.
