Kill The Director Lyrics
Oh, what a skill to have, oh, what a skill to have
So, many skills that make her distinctive
But they're not mine to have, no, they're not mine
No, I don't care about the soaps
No, I don't care about the soaps
Though I'm acting like I'm in an EastEnders episode
Kill the director
If this is a rom-com
Kill the director, please
Don't talk to girls, they'll break your heart
And this is my head and this is my spout
They work together, they can't figure anything out
Here's another song about a gender I'll never understand
Here's another song about a gender I'll never understand
Kill the director
If this is a rom-com
Kill the director
Kill the director, please
This is no Bridget, Bridget
This is no Bridget Jones
This is no Bridget, Bridget
This is no Bridget, Bridget
This is no Bridget Jones
This is no Bridget, Bridget
This is no Bridget, Bridget
This is no Bridget Jones
This is no Bridget, Bridget
This is no Bridget, Bridget Jones

He obviously loves the girl, in a typical teenagery blundering way. Has no idea what to do about it. "heres another song about a gender I'll never understand. he doesn't know how girls think (do any of us) and how to continue this. Baisically if this was a film, well its shite, because as the "hero" he can't do anything about it and the plot can't carry on. So if a film doesnt work, you blame the director. As he feels a bit strongly about it, he wants to "kill the director" "no bridget jones" = no happy ending. This is my head, this is my spout" is a referance to his brain and his sex drive, spout referring to penis. Even working together, they "can't figure anything out" which is how much this is an enigma to him.
Totally agree with what you say, and this being the first time I have read the lyrics (and realized he says "rom-com" (romantic comedy) instead of "roll call", which is huge) and I like your theory on the meaning of the chorus. One thing I would like to say is that I got a different meaning from "This is my head and this is my spout, they work together but they can't figure anything out" I think means that either one of them acting alone would be able to figure it out, but when they are both involved they confuse each...

oh! i always figured "if this is my head and this is my spout" referred to his brain and mouth so he could never say the right thing to get the girl i guess this is why i haven't got a girlfriend (i could quite easily be him)

this song is absoloutly awesome i just dont get bored of it. i understand it all...almost. i get its all about how love isnt like happy endings and mushy movie scenes, it can be a pain and doesnt always turn out well. the only part i dont understand is about Carrots help us see much better in the dark whats the hell is that about? and is the head and spout not refering to the nursery rhyme...'im a little teapot short and spout heres my handle heres my spout'? lol?
(By the way, sorry if this is confusing, but it makes sense in my own head)

My interpretation of the 'carrots help you see much better in the dark' line is that doing things that are good for you give you a clearer view, in a way. In this story, the good thing is him falling in love and the clearer view is that love is shit. To be blunt. Love is put across as such a wonderful thing which makes people happy and is essential to be good as a human being, but as my interpretation shows, finding love, the...

I'd say the head and spout thing is basically his brain (head) and his heart (spout) disagreeing with each other. 'They work together; they can't figure anything out', working together is the act of falling in love and not being able to figure things out is that they both want to go in different directions and think different things of the situation. Basically I think they just wanted to put that slightly cliched emotion into the song without it sounding too repetitive.

What an amazing line "Whenever she looks i read the nearest paper"

i love this song. It puts me in a great mood and is a great driving song on a warm evening.
'I've met someone that makes me feel seasick' - i love it!

I really love the wombats but especially this song. To me it's about being in love with someone who's a bit out of your league and you're too shy to admit to it. Regardless of the meaning, it's one of the best songs I've ever heard. The lyrics are really witty and clever and they really flow, Long Live The Wombats!!!!!!

I think you guys got the song pretty well; just wanted to add that the lines
Carrots help us see much better in the dark Don't talk to girls; they'll break your heart
remind me of mother's pieces of advice, dyou see what i mean? great song anyways.
I agree with you hysteriia. That's how i interpreted it. Exactly the kind of thing my mum would say

I think it's clever how the lines work together. He says Carrots are good for you (which is pretty much common sense). Then he says girls break your heart, which makes that sound like common sense too
