Hey John, What's Your Name Again? Lyrics
Painting the portrait of convictionless existence
Well, it must be difficult being so gorgeous
But it's all, but it's all
But it's all, but it's all
For nothing
Megalomania
This shall pass
Megalomania
On mutilation
For a life, for a life
Life, life, life, life, life, life
I'm gonna pray for you
Amongst the reckless and the black
Salvation lies within
I'm gonna pray for you
Amongst the reckless and the black
My time is yours my friend
Where's an offering?
Offering!
Offering!

In the beginning, the song clearly states how the "concept of fashion" is what is to be blamed. This does not mean fashion is being blamed, it means that the concept of it is to be blamed. With fashion, everything looks so good. The World makes everything look so good like fashion, wealth, power, possessions, etc.
"Well it must be difficult being so gorgeous. Claiming to be the kings and queens but it's all of nothing" refers to people claiming AND fooling themselves into thinking who they are not by living a lie. If I am thinking from Mike Hranica's (vocalist) point of view correctly, I think that he is trying to say that as a Christian, one should notice in another's life that it is difficult trying to live a life that is fake and essentially not a reality at all. Kidding oneself into fashion or power (kings and queens) can ruin a person and they do it just for the sake of pleasing themselves and others just so they can fit under the umbrella of influence/power in the world. In reality, one does not need to kid them self into living a lie to make a difference or have influence in the world. The world is just so focused on what LOOKS SO GOOD - the concept of fashion - and the world doesn't care what happens to YOU or ANYONE as long as the world, being full of sin, is happy with it since the world is full of sin anyway (not that I'm saying there's no good left in the world...that's another topic...).
"Congratulations on mutilation for a life" speaks of a person, who being in the state of mind that is of the world, that destroys the lives of others due to "Megalomania" - obsession with wealth or power. In this sense, megalomania is used for appeal to the human eye (fashion: looking gorgeous) and power (claiming to be kings and queens).
It then goes on with a person saying they will hope and pray for that person that they might change their ways and accept Jesus Christ as their savior to obtain salvation. Even though this person is amongst the wreckless and the black (being sin; not people), salvation lies within for that person to be saved no matter what the situation. The person that hopes and prays for the other(s) even goes on to say that his time is for the other's so that they might turn away from the ways of the world and be saved so that a life is not lost to Satan in this Spiritual Warfare.
It then ends with the worldly people who wish to be changed crying out saying "We all find ourselves so horribly weak!" He's basically saying "How do I manage to get out of this mess?" And the friend that hopes and prays for the other(s) says "Here's an offering" which means he is willing to help the other(s) so that the other(s) may live a righteously for Jesus Christ and not live a life that is a lie and sin and worldly desires.
Thanks for reading this...
...I hope this explanation makes sense and that it makes a difference in the lives of those who AREN'T Christ Followers and I hope it encourages and challenges those who ARE Christ Followers not to live a life that is a lie, of the world, and full of sin...
...God Bless...

I've read through these lyrics a bunch of times, and only one thought comes to my mind. People who do things just to be 'cool'
the part that really makes me think this is: "well, it must be difficult being so gorgeous. claiming to be the kings and queens but it's all of nothing."
Also, Megalomania is a condition where someone thinks they are more powerful or for lack of words "better" than they are.
All I can think of when I hear this song is stupid people that dress up in tight pants and band shirts because they want people to look at them as something different than what they really are

i like how he says the tions part of congrats and mutilation.

I love this part because it's so heavy: "Congratulations on mutilation for a life."

this song to me is about all the ppl who walk around with their looks and money thinking they have it all together
the opening line pretty much stands for its self fashion being the one to blame for eating disorders and horrible self image
it must be difficult being so gorgeous is easy its just ironic kings and queens of the world like the fashion models the male models the scene queens and everything think they have it all but when they die they have nothing in the Heavens
this shall pass does sound like a fad but its also a stage in life the emo stage the preppy stage it all will fade away when we hit the real world
congrats on mutilating life is another ironic line blaming the fashion world for destroying young girls life
the rest just tells itself

the whole piece its awesome i love this song

My view on the song is that it's a message about how people can really ruin their lives through drugs, alcohol & vanity. But it says that just because they are sinning now doesn't mean they can't repent for their sins and change their ways. They say they are here for the person because christians always try to help those in need, whatever they've done.

Oh, by the way, this song is so amazing...
...forgot to throw that out there...

ok...I couldn't have said it any better than GoodEveningMiss.
Everything I could have said has already been said.
Except that I love this song, and this band SO unbelievably much, and I am SO glad they do what they do, because I know they are touching peoples lives and hearts, including mine.

Good lord this is an amazing song. Probably better lyrically than ANYTHING on Dear Love, and that had some great stuff on it. I can't wait for this album When is it going to leak already?
