This song seems to be aimed at perhaps a parent or other support figure in his life that seemed to tell him he was never good enough, and never really supported him. He felt guilty about it for a while ("I'm looking for forgiveness for something I didn't even do) then realized he never did anything wrong, and so now he realizes they were holding him down and is turning away from them.
