Show Me What I'm Looking For Lyrics

wait, i'm wrong
should've done better than this
please, i'll be strong
i'm finding it hard to resist

so show me what i'm looking for

save me, i'm lost
oh lord i've been waiting for you
i'll pay any cost
save me from being confused
show me what i'm looking for
show me what i'm looking for
oh lord

don't let go
i've wanted this far too long
mistakes become regrets
i've learned to love abuse
please show me what i'm looking for

save me, im lost
oh lord i've been waiting for you
i'll pay any cost
save me from being confused
show me what i'm looking for
show me what i'm looking for
oh lord

show me what i'm looking for
show me what i'm looking for
show me what i'm looking for

save me, im lost
oh lord i've been waiting for you
i'll pay any cost
to save me from being confused
wait, i'm wrong
i can't do better than this
i'll pay any cost
save me from being confused

show me what i'm looking for
show me what i'm looking for
show me what i'm looking for
show me what i'm looking for

Honestly, when I hear this song it represented everything I've been feeling since I lost my best friend took his own life over the summer. I think that's what this song is truly about, a feeling of loss and not knowing what to do with your life. Hence, "Save me... I'm lost"

I remember feeling so much regret, about things I could've done better... and I still do, and I'm looking for someone to show me the way back to happiness. Even though he says Lord a lot, I don't think this person necessarily needs to be god. He's just looking for someone to give him some guidance and overcome his feelings of regret.

Anyway, the lyrics rang true for me, and that's why I love this song.

aclbosox, thats terrible, i'm really sorry. thats a hard situation, but i hope you have found your peace and wish you the best.

I agree with your interp of this song. we're all just struggling to find truth and whats right.

No it's not about God. It doesn't have to be a girl either, not necessarily. It's about this guy, the lead singer (I'm too lazy to look up his name), he's waiting for that one person to show him what life's really about. It could be meant towards a girl, a parent, a friend, or just someone who's turned his life around. Think of him as simba and the person he's looking for is that weird baboon guy. He needs someone to tell him what he's been waiting to hear, to answer all the questions he needs answered. Answered because he's begun to question life or humanity itself. That's me interpretation, it's not necessarily directed at any one person, it's a general s.o.s.

My Interpretation

totally agree. It doesn't have to be anyone in particular. the singer might just want anyone or anything to give him hope and guidance. Just because the word Lord or God is in the lyrics doesn't mean it's a worship song. It can be if that's what you want it to be though. I've been on both sides of the spectrum: from strongly and almost radically believing in God to believing that we're all on our own, no God no nothing. But I still capitalize the words because 1. it might be the polite thing to do and 2. I...

It doesnt have to be about a worship song to be about god.

Actually, is it about a man who is lost looking for guidance he is not happy more or less satisfied. He is saying 'Oh lord, Ive been waiting for you!' as in he has waiting a long while for the lord to step in and take control. Don't believe me? The guy who sang this song was grown up in church and the song is labeled as a Gospel and Rock-pop.

I relate this to Christ. A woman cannot save you or complete you. She is flesh and blood, just like me and you. Us humans are selfish, greedy, prideful, nasty people full of pervertive motives so when you place another human being up on that pedistule to complete or fill that void that you feel you need, you are setting up for failure. But when two people(man and woman) are both after something that holds true, full of love, compassion, comfort, wisdom, strength, and who is absolutely perfect who was not capable of sin in Christ you will find something permanent, true, and eternal. Idolatry is dangerous, and God(Our Creator) didn't create us to idolize another human or put them in that position to complete our life. It wouldn't be fair to us humans to do that.

I think the use of the word "Lord" was probably intentional and to be taken literally.

Unfortunately, snobs who think themselves intellectuals will usually break their necks to discount any kind of religious statement. Had he used the word "Universe" or "Love" you wouldn't see this kind of resolve to disprove its meaning, and you most definitely wouldn't see a bunch of religious people saying "I think by 'Love' he really means God because it's what I want him to mean!" So what if the guy was actually having a conversation with God, or believed that he was?

Stop trying to constantly look down on other people and just enjoy the music with an open mind.

Exactly, if he didn't mean it he could have easily left it out and the song would still sound good

Intellectuals = people who think for themselves and not allow others to tell them how to think.

When I was "born again" I looked for my deity in everything because I needed to be comforted by that thought all the time like a baby with a pacifier.

The word "Lord", especially in music, has a colloquial meaning as an expression of feeling which is a style derived from Blues. The writer is from Norway, where people don't shoe-horn god-talk into every thing they say. However, the context on these lyrics do sound uncharacteristic of standard american...

@arydant The band is from South Carolina and Sweden.

The song was written by Chad Wolf and Tobias Karlsson, who are from SC and Sweden respectively, so your point about the meaning is moot.

I don't care about your biography, just enjoy the music.

I don't really think he is either singing to God, or some girl.. I think it is more of an question to his surrondings.. Like when you feel lost or something you kind a ask yourself (or nobody in peticular) to show you the way.. He is looking for something or someone to believe in.. Trying to make sense out of things.. And "the oh lord" phrase, I don't think its supposed to be interpreteded so literal...

But that's just my opinion..

This song means everything to me. It tells me that he is lost and he just wants to be found. It is like a cry for help.

I can relate so much and I really understand. This song means so much to me and I don't care if anyone thinks it is to God or something. I feel this song is just for anything and to mean something to the person who hears it. They want you to find out what it means to YOU. Not what it means to HIM.

Other than that it is a lovely song. And it truly does settle the heart and mind.

My Opinion

I think Oneofthebillions hits it on the head.

"I believe the song plays to the fatalistic nature of humans. It could work into spirituality but I think it is a general criticism of the consequences of fearing an uncertain future. "I'll pay any cost, save me from being confused." Doesn't that seen a little strong? But it is an idea often echoed by those of feel our of control. "show me what i'm looking for"... isn't that something you should figure out; it seems somewhat of a joke to think that someone else could tell you what you're looking for, even at "any cost."

The song is the voice in singers head pleading to a higher power or another person to show him what he's looking for. He may or may not know himself what "sign" that is. He wants to know and understand before he steps into anything. Lifes sad little poker game where people go around with their poker faces on hoping for a glimpse of others cards so they can make their next decision before risking anything and being hurt. The song indicates he's close to the breaking point of being open. But the song is still in his head. I picture two people sitting across from each other thinking the same thing. Show me what I'm looking for. While carrying on in general conversation.

This song means something to me that no one has commented about...the guy who introduced me to this song was someone I was involved with..he told me he wanted me to hear this song. I asked him if he liked it for the sound or the lyrics he said both but mostly the lyrics. The day he told me about this song was the day he ended our relationship...he had a serious girlfriend at the same time as he and I were just starting to see each other. He told me he wanted to be faithful to her. When our relationship started he kept telling me he was having hard time resisting me...so this song for me is totally about someone trying to do the right thing. The lyric "wait I'm wrong should have done better that this" is what he was feeling when he was with me...and "i'm finding it hard to resist" described our situation perfectly...anyway I love this song but it kind of bums me out...

How about, we ask the man what he wrote the song about? That way all this pointless bickering can stop. Maybe it's about a relationship, maybe it's about God, or MAYBE it's about a relationship with God? O_O Anyways, Great song, this man rocks. Go Carolina Liar!

i dont think this song is about god, sure i guess if thats the way you see it all to his own right? But for me this song is about finding the person who you are always suspossed to be with but then

don't let go i've wanted this far too long mistakes become regrets i've learned to love abuse please show me what i'm looking for

Is about how the person had alot of other relationships before and always treated them all the same but then when they met this other person they treated it like the others but then realized how different it was and now they know they need them. Just what i got when i heard the song. kinda new. xD
