As for the message, it's not saying how "suicide's selfish", at least not to me. It's talking more about how it's not just about you and yourself. That it actually effects everyone around you, and how these people would feel when you take your own life.

Wow, what a blistering song about suicide and the effects it has on those around the 'victim'.
The lyrics in this are so powerful. I've seen him play this live and the whole hall was silent and felt cold. It really does hit you hard

This is how selfish suicide is. Note the excessive use of 'you' and 'your' etc. I like how he then purposely emphasises and expresses every case in a way that parodys the idea.
i dont think its as easy as calling 'suicide selfish' i think when someone decides to take their own life, they've hit the brick wall and they seriously just cant see anything worth living for. i wouldnt know because ive never even had those thoughts.

it's horrible for the family, friends, boyfriends, girlfriends etc to deal with but we dont know what the person is feeling or thinking. i love this song because it does really put things into perspective.

This song came on shuffle when I was sitting on a plane today with the ipod turned up full to block out engine noise, and it was so good I almost started convulsing I was trembling so hard. Excellent way with words.
Suicide is not selfish. I like this song, but I absolutely hate the message. YOU'RE the one being selfish by saying, "Oh no, don't kill yourself because I will be sad!" What if they were happier dead? Would you want them to live their life being completely miserable just so YOU can be happy they aren't dead? Sometimes nothing can help people, put yourself in your position before you say they are being selfish.

Personally I think any song that makes people realise or even think about their actions on others can only have a positive effect. I think he is saying that ultimately it is your choice as whether or not to take your life, but realise that it is the last thing that anybody around you would hope to happen and would do anything to avoid. Let somebody know that there is a problem and don't suffer alone.
