Bigcitydreams Lyrics
But in time I'm gunna put this body to shame, grow old
Wear a suit like my old man
Pack up all my things and get my ass out of town
Whether you like this town or not
I know it's small but with a big head it's bound to get hot
In the summer
But the summer is a bummer
If you can't leave
This pathetic excuse for a town
A lifetime of crushes and your broken dreams
To be anywhere but here
But baby anywhere is away from me
Then what is there to shout about
This midwest town is gunna miss you
Just go ahead and work it out
But first come on and let it out
Scream and shout tell everbody that you're gunna leave
These big city dreams are what you're about
Walking like stangers among these states
Only time will tell how long I can wait
Whether you like this town or not
I know it's small but with a big head
it's bound to get hot
In the summer
But the summer is a bummer
If you can't leave
This pathetic excuse for a town
A lifetime of crushes and your broken dreams
To be anywhere but here
But baby anywhere is away from me
Then what is there to shout about
This midwest town is gunna miss you
Just go ahead and work it out
But first come on and let it out
Scream and shout and tell everybody that you're gunna leave
Would you take the hit for me or the home team
Then what is there to shout about
This midwest town is gunna miss you

To me this song is about a girl who is sick of living in her town and believes staying there won't get her anywhere in life. She just wants to leave it all behind, including him, who obviously is part of the town. I get the impression it doesnt seem like she realises how he's affected by it, she's just thinking of herself, but he still cares for her, when he says 'this midwest town is gonna miss you', it kind of seems hes referring to himself.
It's kind of like the grass is greener on the otherside situation - she thinks the city will fulfill all her dreams and that empty feeling she has from being in the town will go.
I also think he's angry by the situation, if she wants to move on then he's gonna try to aswell. He doesn't want her to make a commotion about it, he wants her to get out of there if that's what she wants. Also, due to the fact she's making a big commotion sounds like her idea of leaving is just an empty threat. He's trying to say, get out of here if thats what you want, but make a move, not a scene, it makes you wonder whether it's what she genuinely wants or whether she's just seeking attention.
I also get the sense he's wondering if she cares about him or the town at all 'would you take the hit for me or the home team?' that question will be burning in his mind.
Overall, I can totally relate to this song. When someone so important in your life just wants to leave the town that you live in, including leaving you behind to start a new life, it brings about all kinds of questions, it makes you reevaluate the person and wonder what you could have done wrong, whether they ever really cared etc.. you dont want them to keep going on about leaving because it hurts, it seems like quite a personal blow, even if they dont mean it in that way. You just want to accept it and move on, let them do what they want, because if they want to leave you behind then they obviously werent worth your time anyway.
You are the only person that completely grasped what this song was truly about. Hah.

He is referring to Joplin Missouri as the small midwest town, where he grew up and got famous. "Christopher Drew" or Chris Ingle, is just letting out his feelings in this song about his home town and telling the girl how she needs to mature now that he's too famous for her....

this song is self explanatory it's my favorite off the ep
it was his best EP ever!!!
it was his best EP ever!!!

this song pretty much means that he is tired of living in this small little town that is nothing and he wants to go and leave this town and make a name for himself.

love love love this song and loves a big word. basically is everything i feel about my town. it just doesnt fit me what so ever and i just feel like a butterfly in her cacoon waiting to burst out and explore the word.

I thought this song was to someone else, like him singing to a girl or something.
is it in 3rd person though?
it's actually in 2nd person perspective, you can tell because it says 'you' 'he' and 'she' is 3rd person and 'I' is 1st person.

I take this song as someone who is leaving their smaller home town to pursue a future elsewhere and the singers telling him that everyones going to miss her and that he wants to get out too someday

I love this song so much =] I can really relate to it.

i think it's about a guy who's singin to his girl about how he knows she wants to leave and he kind of accepts it, but he'd rather she stayed, because he knows he's going to be left behind and he's going to miss her. he wants her to be happy here, because he wants to stay with her.

This is my fave nevershoutnever song <3
