"one step forward two steps back" I think it's about someone she's like really into, so much so she can't stop herself from going along with everything he says- "i will follow" i think the "where did you go?" part represents that he's not around anymore. She still misses him, perhaps she was always a "doormat" to him.
In my experience, i once fell for a one night stand. I often had dreams about him, and each time i'd do whatever i could to have him again, each time it wouldn't work out somehow. "so funny i forgot to life" kind of represents my sarcasm and despair of this dream.X
This song is pop perfection, I love it. As far as the meaning, I've only just started to listening to it so I'm not sure yet, I might have to add onto that later.
