Young Adult Friction Lyrics
Not like anyone stopped to see
We came, they went–our bodies spent
Among the dust and the microfiche
Up again to see the dawn
In your worn sweatshirt and your mother's old skirt
It's enough to turn my studies down
You say it's not real
Now that you feel
You say it's not real
Let alone on a moldy page
You put your back to the spines and you said it was fine
If there's nothing really left to say
Something sweet to forget about him
If you go your own way, I can go my own way
And we'll never speak of it again
You say it's not real
Now that you feel
You say it's not real
Don't check me out
Don't check me out~

The singer is losing his virginity in a library "I never thought I would come of age...", the girl is trying to get over her ex "taking toffee with your Vicodin..." He accepts that she doesn't feel anything for him and will probably "go her own way" and they'll "never speak of it again.
"dark winters wear you down up again to see the dawn" I think this is again regarding the ex the girl is trying to get over. She has had a dark winter grieving for their relationship, and her sleeping with the singer is her beginning to see the dawn.

I think this song is about fucking in a library, but the girl doesn't feel the same way as the guy does about it.
She's trying to get over a guy and it's not working, so they go their own way and "never speak of it again".

"Don't check me out" and it's set it a library.
Geddit?

Some kind of love encounter, I'm liking this song a lot. Very catchy. I think the end is supposed to be sarcdonic...

pretty agreeable with above comments. love this song.

hah i didn't think of that drunkfly

haha i didn't think about that either, but that's really funny.
yeah i agree, it's about fucking in a library. it sounds like the guy is losing his virginity maybe (never thought i would come of age/let alone on a moldy page) and the girl is just trying to get over her ex boyfriend.
I really love the line about taking toffee with your vicodin, i think it's really pretty but it's so sad?
anyways, great song.

I would agree with everyone so far, this was the first song that really "clicked" for me from this band
only correction I noticed is it should be
if you go your own way i can go my own way and we'll never speak of it again

damn i love that metaphor

back against the spines....so cleverrrr
