Not long ago
I've been thinking out loud
Why so suddenly?
Don't you know?
Don't do it
What you do
Oh what you do to me
When you've lost your way
Trying to follow your ideal
Oh sorry but your so called life
It is such a waste
No you don't realize
What you say yes to
But you say yes too
Where would you go
With a lasso?
Could you run into
Could you run into
Could you go and run into me?
You can't get out
Don't you know don't do it
What you do well you should do to me
Far-out, so far-out
Such a fall-out
Not only that you're lonely
Don't matter if you're not so well
No you're not so well
Where would you go
With a lasso?
Could you run into
Could you run into
Could you go and run into me?
When you've lost your way
Tomorrow is a long long time
When you've lost your way

I think the song mostly has to do with a girl who is following a false dream or trying to live her life as something she isn't, and the guy wishes he hadn't let her get that far, that far away per se, hence the lasso chorus, saying where would you be able to go if I had kept you closer to me. The guy is also insisting that she be herself with lines such as "wear your real eyes"
I love this song, its so good, definitely one of the underrated tracks off of "Wolfgang Amadeus Phoenix".

I think the song is about the singer trying to stop the girl of his dreams from getting married. He knows she doesn't love the guy she is with now, but due to circumstances she said "yes" to the proposal(No you don't realize what you say yes to, but you say yes too). He says "why so suddenly?" as if this is happening out of no where. Also he says "Forever is a long long time when you've lost your way trying to follow your ideal". When you get married the vow is to stay together forever, but the girl is just trying to live her "ideal" white-picket-fence life without actually being happy with herself. Time flies when you're living a happy life, but "forever" will be a long time for her since she is not actually happy. And her "so called life is a waste" because shes lonely and looking for happiness in the wrong place, or in the wrong way. Finally I think "where would you go with a lasso? Could you run into me?" is saying once she's tied down and married, would she ever be able to come back to him when she sees that he was right. I think that this line is more of a cry for the girl not to do this, because he would love for her to run to him instead. This guy really loves the girl hes singing this to, and wants her to be happy, but is begging her to be happy with him. Sad song, but beautiful in so many ways.
Basically, the girl is lonely no matter what because she most likely doesn't love herself, and is looking for happiness in the worst way possible. The singer knows this and is trying to convince her that he understands her sorrow, but that his love might set her free. (of the lasso) Anyway that's just my interpretation.

whether its about a relationship or just about life in general (i can see it as either), the singer is in love with this girl who, according to him, isnt living her life right. and he wants her to be with him and for her to follow her dreams, and subconsciously she does too.
i think the lasso is representing something to get what she wants in life.
where would you go, where would you go with a lasso? could you run into, could you run into, could you go and run into me?
the singer is asking her if she could have anything she wants, what would it be? and then he's saying do you want to be with me? and i think she said she wants to be with him. and that leads to the next part
where would you go, where would you go tied up to a lasso? could you run into, could you run into, could you go and run into me?
i think now he's telling her where you are right now, tied up to someone else's lasso, she can't get what she wants. then its kind of a rhetorical question saying you can't get to me tied up to someone's elses lasso
and basically the rest of the song is kind of elaborating on that, like you don't know how much better your life could be, and you should change and find your way so you can be happy.

The correct lyrics are (taken from the CD sheet):
Where would you go? Not long ago I've been thinking out loud Why so suddenly? Don't you know? Don't do it What you do Oh what you do to me
Forever is a long long time When you've lost your way Trying to follow your ideal Oh sorry but your so called life It is such a waste
Wear your real eyes No you don't realize What you say yes to But you say yes too
Where would you go Where would you go With a lasso? Could you run into Could you run into Could you go and run into me?
So lonely so pretty such a lack of diplomacy You can't get out Don't you know don't do it What you do well you should do to me Far-out, sp far-out Such a fall-out Not only that you're lonely Don't matter if you're not so well No you're not so well
Where would you go Where would you go With a lasso? Could you run into Could you run into Could you go and run into me?
Tomorrow is a long long time When you've lost your way Tomorrow is a long long time When you've lost your way

I'd say about 15% of the interpretations that people think are about a relationship, are actually about a physical relationship between a boy and a girl. The biggest part of this song that stands out to me:
Forever is a long long time When you've lost your way Trying to follow your ideal Oh sorry but your so called life It is such a waste
Wear your real eyes No you don't realize What you say yes to But you say yes too
The lifestyle we all live is such a waste, environmentally. We say yes to all these things unconsciously, such as cars, because practically everyone has a car. Even if we are getting a gas efficient car we are still contributing to the destruction of this earth, therefore we don't realize what we "say yes to." We think of ourselves as saints for being green, but there is no such thing as a green lifestyle in this country or world any more. Then "forever is a long time when you've lost your way." I can't exactly hit the nail on the head with this but forever is however long it takes for us to destroy this world. Our society has lost it's way so much that we can't go back.
I'm sure there are other components in this song, but that's what I see.

i think this song is about two people who are making all the wrong decisions. And they are trapped by their mistakes. they can't move forward. And they keep falling into the same traps (lasso). hence the line 'where would you go tied up to a lasso'. The only people they have to turn to is each other because they're in the same boat, so to speak. 'forever is a long long time when you've lost your way'. In my opinion, the song just simply means that when your life goes off track, how do you turn things around? where would you go? 'your so-called life...it is such a waste' the song is pretty sad, actually. but i love it.
I agree completely with loislane. I just think of it as a song about two people who are all wrong for each other and in some cases, self-destructive since neither of them can let go of the other one. I was in a situation like this with a guy and yeah...you can't go anywhere because a lasso is essentially a circle so you just keep going around and not getting anywhere. The line 'where would you go tied to a lasso?' speaks perfectly to this, as does the line, 'could you go and run into me?', saying that you are just...

The line 'where would you go tied to a lasso?' speaks perfectly to this, as does the line, 'could you go and run into me?', saying that you are just going to keep going back to this person, he's who you return to, even though you don't want to go back to him. It's like you realize that you need to get out but how do you? This song makes me feel so sad that I spent nearly two years of my life trapped in a 'lasso' with one guy, and now I think of him and it just makes me really sad. This song really is beautiful, but the deeper meaning is quite sad.

It's pretty obvious that "Lasso" doesn't mean "asshole", it means "fatso" as in:
Where would you go, where would you go with a fatso?
Could you run into, could you run into, could you go and run into me?
He totally wants to be hit, because he has low self esteem, and he can't break up with her. But he knows he's a fatso and she's going to leave him for a totally hotter dude, but she'll be lonely. Everyone knows fatsos have tons more personality and they are just more fun to be around.
She's gonna regret leaving her little fatso.
You know this is the true meaning behind lasso, but the singer can't actually say it because it's not politically correct.

I believe this song is about a married woman who the guy falls in love with, and she obviously is not happy in her marriage:
Where would you go? Not long ago I've been thinking out loud Why so suddenly? Don't you know? Don't do it What you do Oh what you do to me (He doesn't want to fall in love with her but he does... don't do it what you do to me)
Forever is a long long time When you've lost your way Trying to follow your ideal Oh sorry but your so called life It is such a waste (trying to follow your ideal... saying that she married because she thought that she was following what she should or wanted in life, "sorry but your so called life it is such a waste" this meaning that its stupid to be in that relationship when she isn't in love hinting once again to forever is a long time when your not in love anymore)
Wear your real eyes No you don't realize What you say yes to But you say yes too (Meaning that she has been fooling herself realize/real eyes and how she says yes to (husband) and says yes too like to marriage, or perhaps to the person persuing her in this song)
Where would you go Where would you go With a lasso? Could you run into Could you run into Could you go and run into me? (how you cant stray from marriage, tied to the knot or whatever but she is trying to run and he hopes that she runs to him if or if she doesnt get out of the marriage, he wants her but she is married)
So lonely so pretty such a lack of diplomacy (desperate for marriage/love, pretty, and can't deal with descisions thus she got herself into the mess of marrying someone she doesnt love = lack of diplomacy, negotiation) You can't get out (of the marriage) Don't you know don't do it What you do well you should do to me (you should fall in love with me rather than him) Far-out, sp far-out Such a fall-out Not only that you're lonely Don't matter if you're not so well No you're not so well
this makes so much sense. well done.
this makes so much sense. well done.

excellent! my favorite part is the "???" section..couldnt figure it out myself anyway good song; could you run into me?

Missing part is:
Far-out, so Far-out Such a fall out Not only that you're lonely Don't matter if you're not so well No You're not so well
Is that a song about marriage?
Is that a song about marriage?
