Hits me right in the heart. To me it's about being afraid. Afraid of love and letting someone in emotionally- and essentially what that will bring ("the weight of us"), the person is scared they are not ready. If they are not brave they will miss out though. There may be a bigger picture here, a more global perspective possibly to this song, but on an individual level that's what it means to me.
