Lord Of This World Lyrics

You're searching for your mind don't know where to start
Can't find the key to fit the lock on your heart
You think you know but you are never quite sure
Your soul is ill but you will not find a cure.

Your world was made for you by someone above
But you chose evil ways instead of love.
You made me master of the world where you exist
The soul I took from you was not even missed.

Lord of this world
Evil possessor
Lord of this world
He's your confessor now!

You think you're innocent you've nothing to fear
You don't know me you say, but isn't it clear?
You turn to me in all your worldly greed and pride
But will you turn to me when it's your turn to die?

This song carries the message of "fuck you"? Sorry kid, but no. This song is a comment to the way people live in "worldly greed and pride" and do evil instead of good (or love, if you want to be true to the lyrics). Already stated, this is Satan's view upon our foolishness. How we live like he wants us to, make him Lord of our world, and in the end we claim that we do not know of or follow his evil ways.

Further on, Black Sabbath songs in general are alot deeper than just a "fuck you"-message. Hope you will realise that one day, and not think of Sabbath as something they are not.

This song, along with "Orchid," is about Satan and how he becomes Lord of the World due to sinners. The song is set in Satan's point of view. A great song.

I don't think that it has to mean "convert or burn" or be about satanists, but it can be about people who are vain and shallow and not concerned with the bigger issues in life. All they care about is power and money and other wordly things, so they are essentially "selling their souls", and the final question means that when you are dying will you really care about all your money and wealth? It won't save you, nothing will, you will die.

It's about how sneaky and tricky and truly evil the devil is and how he can't come and take over your heart once you've accepted Christ into your heart.

First of all, anyone who knows anything about Black Sabbath knows that at least a few of them have roots in the Church of England. I seriously doubt that Ozzy is a satan worshipper but he is, like the rest of us, a wounded soul. As far as the song goes, it is obviously Lucifer speaking to someone. This song was blatantly written by someone who knows at least something about the Bible. I think that too often we equate anything involved with Ozzy Osbourne and any of his associates to drugs and alcohol. We see only what is on the surface. Perhaps we should stop judging and start hearing. In the opening verse, ..."You're searching for your mind don't know where to start; Can't find the key to fit the lock on your heart; You think you know but you are never quite sure; Your soul is ill but you will not find a cure"... it is easy here to make a reference to the Jewish leaders that condemned and crucified Christ. These men were searching for righteousness but were looking in all the wrong places. They could not "find the key to pick the locks on their hearts" because they were looking to themselves and the elders rather than God/Jesus. The same can easily be said about self-righteous, condemning Christians today. The one's who spend all their energy pointing fingers at the world while doing their best to secure their own place in heaven have locked hearts just like the Jewish leaders of old and don't even realize that they are serving the very one that they are claiming is their sworn enemy, Lucifer. This can also be used to apply to atheists who put their faith in the world rather than God. The second verse, ..."Your world was made for you by someone above [God]; But you chose evil ways [greed, hate, gossip, self-righteousness, etc.] instead of love [faith in God/Jesus]; You made me master of the world where you exist; The soul I took from you was not even missed" ...Through the acts greed, self-righteousness, and so on, most of us have unwittingly made Lucifer our master. So sly is he that when we do this we don't even see it ourselves. We turn over our soul to him and don't even realize it. And finally, ..."You turn to me in all your worldly greed and pride; But will you turn to me when it's your turn to die?" ...We are quick to accept this dark master when it's all working out for us, but what about when we are on our death bed. Too often this is when we look back and see how we've really been living and who we've really been serving.

Of course, this is all opinion given that I have never met anyone from Black Sabbath and had the opportunity to sit down and talk to them about the song but if you look at the lyrics of another song by them, "After Forever", you will be able to see where I am coming from. Too often we just take what the media, and even the Church, say as written in stone when it usually isn't.

My Interpretation

"But will you turn to me when it's your turn to die?"

i think thats so fricking true! i mean like i highly doubt when theyre lying on their death bed all these satan worshippers wil not be so devoted will they? and i think all the stupid atheist at my school should hear this song.......man its bs this is a good song

"Atheist are not stupid, and don't try to cram your religion down their troats." WoW...glad to know every atheist is bright:) Are all Asians bright? ) And, yes, many cram their lack of belief and their intollerance of faith down the throats of Christians. There is more bigotry perpetrated against Christians than against atheists...the Hollywood TV and movie producers (and musicians) just LOVE to nail Christians. It's the latest sport...all the rage. You seldom hear songs by non-Christian bands that champion faith and you seldom see TV shows where the Christians are the good guys. Satan is in ALL our...

When I studied the life of Jesus Christ, I was intrigued by what he meant by "love thy neighbours" -after teaching the parable of the good samaritan. When I did some research, he meant love even others who are different from us. The list is long. It is a great responsibility that we Christians have.

Dude, this song is about people like you.

You think you're so holy because you "believe" in God. "You think you're innocent you've nothing to fear You don't know me, you say, but isn't it clear?"

But then, you ignore God's most important rule: love thy neighbour, or whatever it is in english. Atheist are not stupid, and don't try to cram your religion down their troats. Evil ways.

Don't be so sure you're good and don't know satan.

Interesting that a fellow believer would be judgemental towards others that share different beliefs.

That aside, magicalweasal is right, the message is "don't wait till you die to repent and ask for God's mercy." This will make your deal a lot more painful and frightening when it can be a pleasant pseudo-masochistic (painfully enjoyable) experience.

Black Sabbath is my favorite band. I vote this as Terry Butler's best bass Riff.
