Seasick, Yet Still Docked Lyrics

I am a poor freezingly cold soul
So far from where
I intended to go
Scavenging through life's very constant lulls
So far from where I'm determined to go

Wish I knew the way to reach the one I love
There is no way ...
Wish I had the charm to attract the one I love
But you see, I've got no charm
Mmm...

Tonight I've consumed much more than I can hold
Oh, this is very clear to you
And you can tell I have never really loved
You can tell, by the way, I sleep all day

And all of my life no-one gave me anything
No-one has ever given me anything
My love is as sharp as a needle in your eye
You must be such a fool
To pass me by

I relate wholly and appallingly to the melancholy of this track, another one that I can't listen to on the bus because I'll cry in public!!!

It's just about the sadness of realising that you weren't equipped to seek the joys that you wanted and sought from life. you want all these things yet you suffer the torment of knowing that you were in a way defeated before you began and the optimism and hope for life has slipped away.

the pathetic attempt to retain some dignity "you must be such a fool to pass me by." int he face of such a public admittance of the disappointment of life (done whilst drunk?- i've had more than I hold) is enough to break my heart if I let it. ah and the beauty of the music, underrated because I'm not sure if those who have someone to love can relate to this without thinking it whining and self pitying...?

Perhaps you just haven't earned it! they are likely to say!!

I can relate to this song sadly....It's so hard to find the one you love, so those of you who have found one, you're a lucky bunch.

yeah...I agree Victor...the "I know it's gonna happen..." afterwards is such perfect placement for it. This song is so great...I agree with everyone here...I guess if you've found someone you love then maybe it's hard to relate to...but I really get...that feeling when you've had too much to drink...feeling like noone loves you...hating the fact that you don't have enough looks/charm...but still managing to think that you could have something to offer and that the other person is missing out.

I think this is my favourite Morrissey song. The lyrics feel so personal to me, but I'm sure that so many people can relate to them. It's pretty much the theme tune to my life.

The music is really gloomy too. The clock at the beginning and at the end signifies the emptiness, and the waiting for time to pass by.

It's terribly sad to listen to, but 'I Know It's Gonna Happen Someday' works so well after it on the album. At least there's a small light of hope afterwards.

@Victor Drazen I tried to sleep to this track and 'I know it's wanna happen someday' followed just to raise me out of sleep and on my feet, full of confidence and faith. Amazing.

this song hits all the the right spots one after another, it is like how dare you have the nerve to look int my soul and feel what i am feeling at this very moment. and for someone to just sit there and not feel is just absurd. no words have ever been sang in such the proper sequence at such a right time.

how sad are we and how sad have we all been to reject our human emotions and give into this world like a bunch of bitches. this song fits my moment in life how can you explain a song that is being explained to you bluntly?

This is one of Morrissey's most beautiful songs in my opinion, an unusually simplistic approach for the man, just a few rhyming couplets, but works to great effect. The juxtaposition of this and "I Know It's Gonna Happen Someday" defines Morrissey in my eyes. For me its about the realisation that you are not to be happy, the things you so desperately seek are so far from you, unobtainable, and the sadness this brings. The title has always fascinated me, "Seasick, Yet Still Docked"...my interpretation of the title is that he is sick of life, wore down by its constant disapointments and lows, but still alive and keeping on, powering through (docked). Beautifully tragic, but not without hope if you listen to this with the next track on the album

"Wish I knew the way to reach the one I love There is no way Wish I had the charm to attract the one I love But you see, I've got no charm"

Those lyrics are so heartbreaking. I think this song is about comparing yourself to the one you love, and ultimately feeling inferior. The line "far from where I'm determined to go" really exudes this to me. The person you're in love with (and maybe haven't told) has gotten very far in life, while you can't help but think you're a loser.

this song is about being alone, not having the one you love..... "My love is as sharp as a needle in your eye You must be such a fool To pass me by"

...so sad
