I Will Remember You Lyrics

I will remember you
Will you remember me?
Don't let your life pass you by
Weep not for the memories

Remember the good times that we had?
I let them slip away from us when things got bad
How clearly I first saw you smilin' in the sun
Wanna feel your warmth upon me, I wanna be the one

I will remember you
Will you remember me?
Don't let your life pass you by
Weep not for the memories

I'm so tired but I can't sleep
Standin' on the edge of something much too deep
It's funny how we feel so much but we cannot say a word
We are screaming inside, but we can't be heard

But I will remember you
Will you remember me?
Don't let your life pass you by
Weep not for the memories

I'm so afraid to love you, but more afraid to loose
Clinging to a past that doesn't let me choose
Once there was a darkness, deep and endless night
You gave me everything you had, oh you gave me light

And I will remember you
Will you remember me?
Don't let your life pass you by
Weep not for the memories

And I will remember you
Will you remember me?
Don't let your life pass you by
Weep not for the memories
Weep not for the memories

This song probably takes after the proverb that states "The only thing worse than regretting something you did, is regretting something you didn't", in this case, regretting that you didn't grab the love that you could've once had, and reminiscing about the lost opportunity.

"It's funny how we feel so much but we cannot say a word. We are screaming inside, oh, but we can't be heard."

I don't think I've ever heard a more beautiful and more true lyric in my life. Those two sentences just really get to me. They can be thought of in relation to anything.

This is a really special one. I think the mark of a truly incredible song, or any piece of art, is expressing a truth that many have felt but few can find the words / pictures / sound for.

I'm so tired but I can't sleep Standin' on the edge of something much too deep It's funny how we feel so much but we cannot say a word We are screaming inside, but we can't be heard

This part is so real to me, just last night I lay in my bed for hours, EXHAUSTED but unable to sleep... silent, but full of things that needed to be said.

I'm so afraid to love you, but more afraid to loose Clinging to a past that doesn't let me choose

This part is hard for me to put into words, but I think it is talking about how based on your past you are bound to certain memories and patterns. Like you are afraid to love, but afraid to lose at the same time, and your past says that its not possible to get one with out the other.

Once there was a darkness, deep and endless night You gave me everything you had, oh you gave me light

I think this part is talking about depression, and a good friend that saved the person from disappearing into it.

Great song.

Another song that reminds me of my friend Jake. At his funeral, we watched a slide show of his life, and this song played in the background. For the first year after his death, I couldn't listen to this song without crying. Lately, I've been thinking about him a lot...just trying to remember him. He was such a wonderful person, with such an amazing sense of humor. I only hope that others will remember him the way I did, and he will remember us when we all greet him on the other side, in Heaven.

"Where ever you go, go with all your heart." - Confucius

" I will remember you, Will you remember me?" Those lines hit the hardest for me because it seems that everyone I've met in the past has forgotten me, yet I don't ever forget them. I'll walk right past an old classmate or friend at some random place, and they won't even notice me there. I've been trying to e-mail my old best friend a thousand times but she's been ignoring me. It was her at first that got angry when I forgot to answer back. I'm doubting now that any of the friends I have now will remember me and all the good times we've had ten years from now. We always promise that we will never forget someone, but few of us ever keep that promise.

out of every song thats ever been made, this is the one that REALLY hits me, because i can relate to it so much. to me, its about being best friends with someone and loving them, but not making a move and then regretting it. nwo you think back and wonder every day what could of been had yto only taken your chance, and whether they will remember you in the furute because you will never forget them as they were everything to you. i agree with the first coimmment, its about being 'better to regret something you did do than something that you didn't' but i'd like to add another quote which i think really sums up this song to me, and why it relates and means so much to me and this same reason i why i want iot played at my funeral. "I always knew looking back on the tears would made me laugh, but I never knew looking back on the laughs would make me cry"

@little_miss_failure ouff. That last line really hit me. What a great quote. Brought a tear to my eye. Thank you for sharing

i think this is a person who passed away, "speaking" to a loved one who is still alive. Everyone else has said pretty much what it is. It definitely goes along with a favorite quote of mine, by someone we all know, "Don't cry because it's over, smile because it happened." ~Dr. Seuss

My favourite part of the song is: "I'm so afraid to love you, but more afraid to loose Clinging to a past that doesn't let me choose" It always seems like when your trying to love someone, your pass gets in the way and you just can't. Those old hurts and insecurities won't let you trust them, and you fall apart. And then being afraid to loose someone, it seems like everyone knows how that feels. Not wanting to accept to possibility of rejection by giving yourself to them. Life's so complicated and I love how this song just seems to take on meaning in every context. Beautiful. She doesn't get enough credit for her work.

i think this song is about realizing how much people take thier lives for granted. after you lose someone, i think it is an eye opener. dont take your life for granted. "weep not for the memories." memories are great, but we cant live in the past. of course you are always going to remember those who were lost, but they wouldnt want you to waste your life away. Before my grandma died of cancer she requested no funeral, but instead asked us to hold a "party" to celebrate her life. She didnt want us to grieve for her or be sad, she just wanted us to remember her as she was and look back on all our good memories we had of her.

The song is about ADOPTION. Sarah McLachlan is adopted. The above lyrics is not how she usually sings it. Take out the verse about the sun and remembering the good times. I know the song very well. I listened to it on repeat freshman year of college when I found my birthmother. Also, it should be "You gave me everything you had, you gave me LIFE". They have "you gave me LIGHT".

"I'm so afraid to love you, but more afraid to lose. Clinging to a past that doesn't let me choose." It's very common for adoptees to not want to love their birthmothers for fear of rejection. A past that didn't let her choose was her not being able to have a say in her birthmother giving her up for adoption.

The other version of the song was changed so that a wider audience could relate to it, but her heart was remembering her birthmother when she wrote the song.
