American Dreaming Lyrics
To protect me from myself
So I can wear honesty like a crown on my head
When I walk into the promised land
And I think we've all lost the way
Forlorn somnambulistic maniacal in the dark
well, she's my best friend
I love her surreptitious smile
That hides the pain within her
and leave alone by the shores,
feel alone in the brands of rapture
and leave alone for the loss
Fay-hee, on the lea the rising wind blows
How long, how long?
on the grounds of allegiances
we've left behind
turned back by the foot of the doorway
never lost and found
I think we've all lost the heart
Forlorn Somnambulistic maniacal in the dark
Fay-hee, on the lea the rising wind blows
How long, how long?

I don't know what this song means but I love it!

I'm pretty sure the first '???' you posted is:
"Feel alone in the brands of rapture And leave alone for the loss"
And the other '???' line is:
"Here alone on the grounds of allegiances we've left behind"
And of course the word before 'somnambulistic' is just 'forlorn' again.
Hope this helps. :)

An Interpretation, mixed with all my memories, a reflection and my dreams. (Just like the song says.) I’m an American girl. Through and through. This song raised me. It’s been a guiding force of my life since the moment I was first blessed enough to get to hear it. It reassures me. It protects me. I’m not alone. Not completely. Someone wrote this! Someone understands me. Feels all of it too!!! To not be completely alone in the world… after all!!! Pure Magic.LOVE. It’s not just the lyrics of course. Must pair it with the actual sound. Such a huge part of the exploration of the meaning is captured in a way we can’t begin to tabulate through pitiful picnicky prose I pronounce. In the music I always heard the Wild West on horse back … galloping galloping galloping wind blowing through our hair wild and free. So much beauty. You are totally madly inescapably in love with an American girl!!! She’s your BEST FRIEND! She knows you. Through in and throughout. Shes wild and filled with dreams you hadn’t dared dream of before. And she has set you free!!! You love her for her sadness. Not despite it- but BECAUSE of it. For you know you couldn’t love anyone that wasn’t in pain. The pain was worth fighting for. It was TRUE. Something meaningful in an otherwise empty world. That’s why you’re crying at night. You kept your dignity truth and beauty despite every injustice endured. Wind blows tempest tossed How long, how long????
@designresource Thank you. May you eventually find comfort (but not complacency).

It seems to be a criticism abaout the american dream

This reminds me of a quote from "Fight Club":
"Advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don't need. We're the middle children of history, man. No purpose or place. We have no Great War. No Great Depression. Our Great War's a spiritual war... our Great Depression is our lives. We've all been raised on television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires, and movie gods, and rock stars. But we won't. And we're slowly learning that fact. And we're very, very pissed off."
