I don't think it's about John since in the Majesty dvd they mention his departure from the band and the remaining members thank him for his time in the band and whatnot. If this is about John, then it seems they're angry he quit but they wasn't pissed during the dvd; they wouldn't have interviews with him in Majesty if they were I would assume. |

I was laying in bed trying to fall asleep and I had Before the Dawn Heals Us playing. I was beginning to dose off while this song came on and it woke me when the mom says "Wake Up! Wake up!" and I was startled the rest of the song. Thankfully Slight Night Shiver relaxed me and I dosed off sometime after that. |

I've always looked at the song as an atheist's last moments the end of the world versus a christian's last moments at the end of the world. An atheist would spend his/her last moments enjoying the world around him, like gazing out at the beauty of a vast ocean. A christian would more than likely spend his/her last moment praying in church. Would you rather spend your last moments enjoying life or would you rather spend it doing what you've been doing all your life? |

Like love is fiction mentioned this song is influenced by the Kurt Vonnegut Jr. short story, Long Walk to Forever.
Newt, a private first class (PFC) goes AWOL from his camp in Fort Bragg, NC to see his life long friend, Catharine, who is to be married in a week. Newt asks her for a walk, afterwords mentions that he went AWOL just to see her. As they walk, he tells her that he loves her but doesn't really expect her to love him back. He tells her to remember him from time ti time. She begins to cry, but doing so invites him to kiss her through her expressions. He does and she feels guilty. They stop for a moment to admire the bell tower of a school for blind children. They stop and sit beneath a tree and Newt asks Catharine to close her eyes. As she does, he falls asleep. She admires him as he sleeps. He awakens an hour later and tells her he will leave and turn himself in; that he went AWOL for just one more walk with her. As he turns and walks away, Catharine thinks that if he turns around and calls her name, she will run to him. He does, so she runs to him.
The song seems to switch the roles slomewhat, Newt watches Catherine walk away and waits for to call out to him, but in this version there is no happy ending.
The song title is taken from the line Newt keeps telling Catharine when she erefuses to keep walking: One foot in front of the other-through leaves and over bridges. |

I agree with most of what everyone says about this song. And I know this theory is wrong, but this is what I thought this song was about as of last year:
I thought this song was about a couple buying an old house and they fix it up together. Then in the middle of the night, there was an electrical mishap and either both of them or just his girlfriend die. I always looked at this song as Dallas trying to wake his girlfriend while the accident happens or Dallas standing over the loved one's grave stating "Wake up..." over and over. Kinda depressing when you look at it that way. But all and all I thought it was a metaphore for either getting your hopes up and having them dashed or creating a life and having everything you worked for taken from you.
PS: Although it seems like a sad song, it is a great make out or hot sweaty fuck song.... same goes for "Side Walk When She Walks". |

Most of you think of AILD as a christian band and therefore relate every single song Tim write as a song about religion. Tim said it himself: there's a difference between a christian band and five guys in a band who is christian. I personally think this song, as most other songs on this album, is not about religion. I think it has to do with (as simple as it seems) struggling when you believe you have nothing left and trying to find something to live for.
Oh and is it Tim singing the clean? Like "This is Who We Are" no one is credited for singing the clean. If yes, then Tim needs to sing more. |

The way you wrote it you make it seem Gacy did life in prison which he was executed with lethal injection. If you're going to go through the trouble of writing lyrics at least know the song first.

To me it seems like a song about one of the many ways the world could end, being devoured by the sun. During the cycle of a star, it grows until it finally explodes which is called a supernova. Our sun is in its yellow stage then it will grow into the red stage, also known as a red giant. That's when the sun will burn everything in its way, including the planets. The song may not be about the sun bring about the end, but it seems to fit very well. Its seems kinda creepy, the entire world counting down until the sun finally arrives and burns them alive. |
