loveisblind.....theres been lots of speculation as to what the "old cliche under your monet baby" means....One idea is that the people in Soho have told Natalie to go out to a garden to rest before she dies...and gardens have monet arches...so maybe she is the cliche under the arch because she's just waiting to die.....also....maybe the reason she go aids was from injecting drugs on the couch under the arch of roses at 54....drug use is a cliched way of getting Aids....there could be lots of things it could mean...thats the beauty of the killers.... : ) |

Yes, you are exactly right yipperduigs! I just read back over my post and realise i said time instead of tide. Oops! I think he's dumping the body in the ocean. I read in NME that their new song "leave the bourbon on the shelf" is when he kills her, midnight show is disposing of the body, and Jenny is him justifying himself to the cops when he's caught. Cant wait to hear the new album! And also the 25 min movie the killers are making about the murder trilogy! |

This is my fave Missy song! She wrote it when overseas about a guy she was missing (i think they broke up when she left) and sent it to him for his birthday. But apparently she spoke to him a while later and he said he was doing great without her, so she then wrote an angry song for him. She played it live in Melbourne, and it was awesome, it had a real sarcastic, nasty sting to it, i hope it's on one of her Cd's in the future. |

I saw Missy live a couple of months ago and she dedicated this song to her best freind Lucy, so im inclined to think that it may have been Lucy who was suffering depression, and Missy wrote this song to reach out and help her. Its beautiful and so awesome live. |

I agree with regan_89, the first time i heard this song it made me cry as i had just cheated on my boyfreind, and i was desperate for him to forgive me and for everything to go back to the way it used to be, it was then i knew that Missy was writing about being unfaithful to someone she loved. Theres a real desperation feeling in the chorus as her singing speeds up. I only wish i could be as articulate with my emotions as Missy is. Fabulous song, great voice, and go aussie, go! |

Ive read an interview and apparently this song is about a girl sleeping with someone for the first time - "I couldnt say, i wouldnt say no"- and then falling in love with them, but everyones telling her she's too young to be in love and she shouldnt be with him. But then the song changes to her perspective and she defends herself by saying "they werent there beneath his stare" and she's trying to explain the spell he had over her. When she was with him she was stripped from everything - all her troubles and worries, he made her feel free. Obviously the songs written after they have broken up and theres a real feeling of desperation and sadness to it, she's waiting to tell the world her story but she knows everyone will say "i told you so" |

They are making a movie out of the murder trilogy, i so cant wait! Oh and the lyrics "She said she loved me!" are the best in the song, you should all try driving while listening to this really loud, and then scream out this part, its so fun! You sure get some funny looks though!! |

Deamonicus....the murder trilogy is actually jenny, midnight show, and leave the bourbon on the shelf, which is on the new album. "boubon" is the first installment, when he kills the girl after a messy break up, and ive heard the murder involves water...."midnight show" is him disposing of the body, and "jenny" is him trying to justify the murder when he's caught by the cops. They are making a 25 min movie, and apparently the killers want mischa barton to play Jenny, and james spader the kill. Cant wait! my interpretaion is that Mr brightside isnt about a prostitute, but just a woman who makes the guy feel insanely insecure because he loves her so much. |

Thanks for your meaning madrigal82. The song is describing people that are trying so hard to be "cool" by being into indie music, and they try to make out like its their world and they are dedicated to being "indie". I definetly understand the whole mentality that popular music is not cool, its a lot like that here in Oz too. Still have no idea what "coffee shop with a cause? and "in a clutch....im talking every word for all the boys" means, any ideas? |

I think the guy likes a girl and they are in a club and someone tells him that she may have dated one of his ex girlfriends while he was still with her. Then he tries to decide if he still wants to pick her up or not…but maybe she doesn’t want to because of the ex girlfriend. I think in the 2nd verse he feels that the rumour has taken its toll on the chance of him hooking up with her, so he leaves…..maybe she follows him outside and “all he wants to do is try”. I think “bring it back down” is him wanting to forget the rumour and come back down to earth – to reality. “Rushin around” is him trying to find out if the rumour is true or not, chasing his friends around the club to see if they know anything about it. Very confusing song, but it makes me want to dance! |

I think its someone looking in retrospect at his past….i think he was in love and they broke up and in the first verse he’s talking to an older person he looks up to about it….maybe he treated the girl badly and this older person is telling him to learn from his mistakes and nip it in the bud while he’s young. He’s remembering all the good times with this girl and he knows that she will find some one else one day – “someone will drive her around down the same streets that I did”. He’s trying to keep a brave face, but inside he’s hurting, he cant truly smile, but he’s putting on a front to act like he’s ok, when he’s clearly not. Its such a melancholic song, but it makes me feel optimistic whenever I hear it. Beautiful music in this one too, its so 80’s. |

This is definetly one of my fave killers songs! Lyrics in second line should be “Like some other dj from some other town”. Its so sexy and upbeat…..its baby making music!! Haha! I think that Brandon wrote it about the night he proposed to his fiancé (they are now engaged and getting married later this year I do believe) and the sheer happiness and excitement that they both were feeling….it sounds as if they have gone out dancing and he feels like nothing can ever bring him down…he’s “on top” of everything. He feels complete now – “the velvet sun that shines on me and you”, and I think he was a bit down and out before he met her and he waited a long time, but now everything is perfect. “Get your eyes off my bride” I think is him realizing that she’s actually said yes, and they are really getting married…he’s going out of his way to drop the words “my bride” into the conversation. He doesn’t need to satisfy anyone, as they are both so blissfully happy…I also think theres some sexy dancing going on on a dancefloor to, but he doesn’t care if anyone sees – “we bring the bump to the grind….i don’t mind”. I used to think this was about the band hearing that they had gone to number 1 on the music charts and being “on top”, but have since changed my mind after listening in more detail! Would be great to get some feedback on what people think of my take on the song! |

I agree with MaxQQQ. And after reading mod kitten and suicidal angel, I can also see that you guys may be right too. Great song. Heres my take…. Its about a guy who’s quite insecure and didn’t plan on falling in love with this particular woman….maybe he thinks she’s way out of his league….but whenever he’s not with her he’s utterly paranoid that she’s with another man….He doesn’t want to seem needy to the girl - “I gotta gotta be down because I want it all”. It obviously started with them kissing one day and now he’s full on in love with her. “coming out of my cage” refers to him trying to be more secure in himself and trying not to think that she’s cheating. I think the verse is him laying in bed waiting for her to get home and all these things are running through his head and all he wants to do is fall asleep so he doesn’t have to think about it anymore. The chorus is referring to his dreams turned nightmares as MaxQQQ said, and “Im Mr Brightside” is of course being sarcastic. “the price I pay” is him worrying all the time, but he feels its worth is as he loves her too much. “Ill never learn…” means either that he’ll never be more secure in himself, or him saying he’ll never stop falling in love. Great song, great band, great lyrics, love it! |

Im suprised there hasnt been more comments either! I love love love this song! I never really listened to it when I first bought the album but its really grown on me. Ive spent many hours trying to figure out exactly what its about. My latest theory is that he’s planned to kill his girlfriend….im not sure if she’s cheated on him but she’s definetly done something wrong – “crashing time cant hide a guilty girl”….i think he’s told her that they are going to a secret place where they can be alone, and to fool around, but he’s really taking her there to kill her and doesn’t want anyone to know where they’re going. Driving out to wherever he’s taking her though, I think the conscience starts to kick in inside his head – “There's something in my head, Somewhere in the back said, We were just a good thing, We were such a good thing” – I think “let me take a little more off your mind” is being sarcastic as he’s about to kill her. “make it go away” is referring to the voice in his head….and also possibly her dead body after he realizes what he’s done. I think the “midnight show” is the murder itself…maybe he gets off on the drama and theatrics of it…and I think the “chandelier” underneath which he kills her, is the moon. I used to think this was just a song about going out in the dark to find somewhere to get it on, but I love that its about a murder now…theres something very sexy about this song, Brandon sure knows how to tell a good story! |

This is a great opener to the album…I love the guitar on it! I think its basically a song about a guy who kills a girl, Jenny…and he's now being interrogated for it....maybe she was going to break up with him, or they had been fighting… “she said she loved me, but she had somewhere to go”….theres definetly a jealousy tone here….which teams with the jealousy in mr brightside and also midnight show. Maybe they embraced to say goodbye and he stabbed her, but her screams were not heard as her face was in his chest…..great imagery in this song, one of my faves on the album. |

He’s saying that since he met this girl that he feels like nothing can go wrong. He was looking to meet anyone special, but he thought he’d never find someone but she’s made him fall head over heels for her “I was out shopping for a doll….” I thik he’s done something wrong and he doesn’t want her to compromise by staying with him if she’s hurting…he loves her too much for that. Everything will be alright because he has had her in his life…..beautiful! I think “I never knew..” means “I never knew I could love someone this much” Love this song! |

I agree with Flaneur. I read that this is about a college football player that Brandon looked up to when he was younger….theres definetely the feeling that he was was slightly “uncool” and may have been made fun of….he may have even told the player that he thought he was good and this may have resulted in him being teased. I however don’t think it has any gay tones at all…..he just admired this guy as he was everything that he wanted to be. It’s a really sweet song actually…but I think its been made out to seem a lot darker that what it really is. |

I think this is a plea to God for help…he feels that he’s don’t wrong and his life isn’t turning out the way he hoped….he’s not the person he wants to be and he wants help…theres kind of a desperate feel to this song. He’s kind of making a statement about life…he wants to be remembered for being a good man. This song is awesome! Brandon’s lyric ability is amazing, go the killers!! What are others opinions on this? |
