Lightspeed Champion – Midnight Surprise Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Aside from the aforementioned Zelda references, I think some of the other stuff is about Super Mario Galaxy. In the two player mode of that game, one person plays fairly normally, and the other person watches for and collects "stars" by pointing at the screen. That seems to go along well with the chorus. So, he and his girlfriend probably used to play Wii together before they split. |

also note that maccaboy's edit is correct for the first chorus, but not for the last 3 :) |

For the record, yournotwelcum + maccaboy are correct based on my listen. maccaboy's "did you wonder why" is correct, and is probably the only hard-to-hear line in the entire song. How do we get the lyrics changed on here? The main listing is HORRIBLY wrong, I don't know how anybody came up with some of them. I can tell they're wrong on low volume with speakers, I don't even have to listen to headphones to make them out. two additional minor edits: in the first verse there's no "and" leading the fourth line also, down lower: Silver SCARS in your hand, in your hand I know it's seasonable Several times I have heard your demand You're so unreasonable And you DON'T EVEN know even know my name And I know every constellation |
Barenaked Ladies – The Humour Of The Situation Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I think this song is about a guy who is cheating on his girlfriend. In the first verse, he and the girl he's getting with are making fun of his girlfriend. In the second verse, he calls his girlfriend with an excuse for where he's at, but the caller ID reveals that he's at the other girl's house, so she threw all his stuff out on the lawn. The line about the hens crossing the street means that a lot of women found out about his cheating ways, and in the lines just after he bemoans the fact that he didn't take more advantage of his situation before he got found out. |
The Clash – (White Man) In Hammersmith Palais Lyrics | 15 years ago |
kaisersteev: Hot Topic is NOT owned by the Gap, they're an independent company. They are punk-lite for malls and they borrowed heavily from Retail Slut and other Melrose goth/punk/alternative shops, but they aren't owned by anyone else. Where I grew up (in conservative nowhere), Hot Topic was my only alternative clothing choice - don't get down on them, they serve a good purpose. |
Okkervil River – For Real Lyrics | 16 years ago |
I agree this song is about sado-masochism. The singer is insecure about the woman because she has strayed, and the only way he can "test her" is through violence. He also wants to be hurt himself because it's the only thing that feels real. |

So it's actually "gold-hearted boy" FWIW. |

This song is indeed about a spiritual crisis, and what brideonfire writes about is accurate about the basic attitude of the singer and what they're reflecting about. It's also explicitly Christian. "One more Son" refers to Jesus, the Son of God. "when there's nowhere else to run / is there room for one more son?" is asking if someone who feels like they're out of options has room for Jesus in their heart. "shine on in the hearts of men" is a Biblical reference ("For God, who commanded the light to shine out of darkness, hath shined in our hearts, to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ." - 2 Cor.4). There's also a phrase that is translated similarly in more modern translations of the Bible in Matthew 5:16 where Jesus is preaching for his followers to shine in the hearts of others. Going down this path, "back of my broken hand" can easily be taken to be Jesus' hand, broken by the nail of the Crucifixion. "don't put me on the backburner" is suggesting one will get lost if you're ignoring Jesus, and if you do, "you're gonna bring yourself down" i.e. become lost. "over and out, last call for sin" refers to Armageddon. During the Second Coming, the only people who are left are unrepentant sinners (lost), then the battle is won - "while everyone's lost, the battle is won". Even despite the sins ("all these things that I've done") you still win if you've kept the faith ("if you can hold on"). I agree with brideonfire's readings of the "cold-hearted boy" and "I got soul but I'm not a soldier" lines - that the singer isn't a soldier of the Church but still has belief in something that he's trying to sort out. "time, truth, and hearts" is a reference to Psalm 69, verse 13. Psalm 69 is plea for help to God from a repentant sinner. The story arc of Psalm 69 is very similar to the arc of "All These Things That I've Done." One of the claims at the end is that the sinner will praise God in song. |
