Seems like battling with depression and thoughts of suicide, you stop going out, you stop talking to friends, you stop interacting with the world, and that's exactly how depression gets at you even better. Vanessa calls to cheer him up but he's still depressed and feels like there is emptiness inside. Tilly calls and tries to sooth his heart and mind but it just tears him up more. The only way out he can see from the pain is suicide, and they do their utmost to convince him otherwise, but by the end of the night he has shot himself in the head. So a lot of lines in the song can be taken two ways, I wonder about those last two lines, now that we think we know the guy is the killer, do we just take them at face value instead of it possibly being another hint? Instead of it finding the guy he accused, telling him he killed his own brother, then getting rid of that guy and now the secret it safe, could it be that; he tells us it was him that killed his brother, but that isn't the actual truth, which he won't have to admit ever.

While it might be about psychedelics in general, the reference to The Dead is definitely referring to acid. The major source of acid throughout the country was through people following The Dead and then The Grateful Dead. |

Let me ask this, why does being the first to do some style of playing make someone the best bassist? I guess the guy who made the first bass, or the first electric bass is probably the best then right? No.
What about the guy who can play 1200 drum beats in a minute? Just because he can play the fastest doesn't make him the best drummer in the world either.
Just because les doesn't play the most complex fast stuff in the world doesn't mean he can't still be the best. |
