The Rightous Brothers wrote and sang it. Elvis didn't write any of his songs, he covered a lot other peoples stuff and sang it better. Although there would be a big debate on this one. Also, Elvis was a big fan of the guy with the deep voice in The Rightous Brothers, propbably why he covered it.

One of my favorites. It's a pure love song that doesn't sound like the same old drippy love songs.
When you find true love, this is the song you sing and "get." It's about the "wonder" of love, it can't be analyized, or explained, it just can be felt and that is wonderful. When someone truely loves you, they love things about you you can't understand, but that's love. They realy get and know you. They are your best firend. |

I love Elvis, but this has to be the most overplayed of all Elvis songs and I hate the radio stations for it, he has hundreds of other great songs they they never play, idiots.
Anyway, it's about two people that don't trust each other and can't figure out what to do with thier relationship, they sound like they both need help. maybe that's why the chorus is so repeatitive. It represents the monotnous cycle of indecision and procrastination. Niether has the guts to be honest so they make up fears of the other lying.
A psychiatrist would have fun with this song. Is there is doctor in the house? |

You idiots, LISTEN to the words, it's about coming out of the closet, "just shot a man" he has killed what people think he is, i.e. straight and now has reveal who he really is, i.e. gay. "life had just begun, now I've thrown it all away." he is talking about his decision to come out of the closet and how difficult it is, how people/family will now look at him, his life as he knew it is now completely different.

to me" At the beginning he thinks it doesnlt really matter he is in the closet, he can just go along as he is, in the closet...
Then the song changes, gets more up beat, "so you think you can stop me and spit in my eye?" He is now out of the closet and getting treated with hate from people who hate gay people. "So you think you can love me and leave me to die." I think he is talking about his family and how they loved him when they thought he was straight and now have disowned him now that he is telling them he is gay.
It's about all gay men or women and their struggle to come out of the closet.
BTW, undder pressure it about the same thing, the song he sings with Bowie. LISTEN to the words. And no I'm not gay, just perceptive. |
