Fugazi – Waiting Room Lyrics 6 months ago
I've noticed here and many other places seem to have incorrect lyrics. They have Guy's lines as "I cannot use it" and "I won't live by it" instead of "I have no use for it" and "I'm not a part of it." I mean, it's written right in the lyrics included in the CD, though they are reversed in their position. It's quite a common thing I see where incorrect lyrics get spread across the internet, and even end up in Apple Music's lyrics. Some of these sites even indicate that the lyrics are taken or licensed from some other place, as if it is from something official.

Talking Heads – Making Flippy Floppy Lyrics 7 months ago
@[justinarms:48611] There we're two version of the album. The cassette and later CD's had extended version of several of the songs. I first heard the longer version as I had made a copy of a friend's tape. A few years later I got the CD, and realized something was missing. I eventually tracked down a CD that had the extended versions. It took me a while to get it because every time I was in the record store I would forget what the track lengths were. So, I was reluctant to get it if I wasn't sure if it was the correct version. Seems that is the standard version that I see now on Apple Music.

The Smashing Pumpkins – Thru the Eyes of Ruby Lyrics 8 months ago
@[Lannes:48375] That sort of fits with something I was thinking of. "Breathing underwater, living under glass" makes me think of a fish. I was thinking Ruby could be a fish, but a cat looking at the fish works as well.

Just checked the site, and it says "tire" at this point.

Dire Straits – Sultans Of Swing Lyrics 10 years ago
I always assumed it was referring to London, England.

Tsunami Bomb – The Invasion From Within Lyrics 11 years ago
The first time I heard this song was when I came across a live concert on Comcast On-Demand. I think this was my favorite song of the bunch. I didn't understand what they were singing. When they were singing "Enemy Inside of Me", it almost sounded like they were saying, "Superman. Spider-Man."

Even funnier would be if you changed it to "Enema, Inside of ya."

Bob Marley and the Wailers – Get Up, Stand Up Lyrics 12 years ago
If I was to do a protest song, it would be something like, "Get up, stand up, sit back down again."

The Smashing Pumpkins – The Sacred and Profane Lyrics 13 years ago
That is a different "Sacred and Profane" song that mrgrumble is referring to. That is a song by Berlin from their 2002 album Voyeur.

The Cars – Bye Bye Love Lyrics 13 years ago
I believe it says "involving all my energies" the first time, but "fogging all my energies" the second time.

Simply Red – Holding Back The Years Lyrics 13 years ago
This kind of fits with what the song means to me, or at least how it makes me feel.

The Monkees – Randy Scouse Git Lyrics 13 years ago
Capitol's parent company is EMI. The liner notes on the "Listen to the Band" box set mention that Mickey made the song up the morning after the Beatles had thrown them a party.

Yeah, if they were real Tori fans, they would know that entire album was cover songs.

Mötley Crüe – Too Fast For Love Lyrics 14 years ago
There should be a parody of this called "Too Fat For Love."

Paul McCartney – Jet Lyrics 14 years ago
Actually, "Suffragette City" was on the 1972 Ziggy Stardust album. "Jet" was on the Band on the Run album released in 1973.

Styx – Lady Lyrics 14 years ago
Perhaps people are confusing two parts of the song. It says "Give me all of your love", and "Show me all of your charm."

Scorpions – Is There Anybody There? Lyrics 14 years ago
Yes, it does have a bit of a reggae beat to it. I was listening to it recently and thought the same thing. Funny that it hadn't really occurred to me before. I suppose that when I first listened to it, I probably didn't really know what a reggae beat was.

As for the meaning, it seems to be from the perspective of someone who is feeling lost and depressed, wishing he could find true love and happiness.

Ted Nugent – Stranglehold Lyrics 14 years ago
Defenseless? Animals can run away. Plants can't. Besides, it's not just for sport. He eats what he kills. Also, the animals he kills probably had a better life then a lot of animals that are raised in cramped conditions in some mega-farm.

The Start – Master Plan Lyrics 14 years ago
Good tune. I particularly like the live version from Maniatv that I found on Youtube. As for the meaning, sounds like she had plans for a guy, but things didn't work out.

The song would be funnier if it was "Plaster Man" instead.

Patti Smith – Rock & Roll Nigger Lyrics 14 years ago
Maybe they are confusing it with a different word, such as niggard, which is a stingy person. I've never heard of "nigger" meaning lazy, though there are plenty of people who think of them as being lazy. However, it would then be redundant if they called someone a "lazy nigger."

I don't think I heard this song until she performed it at her Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction. I thought it was a great song. I believe the lyrics were a bit different in that one, as I think she mentioned Ghandi instead of Hendrix.

Pat Benatar – Hell Is For Children Lyrics 14 years ago
Yes, I thought the same thing when it first came out. I was about 10 at the time, though, and didn't really pay attention to the lyrics. I only noticed the part about telling grandma you fell off the swing, thinking it was complaining about whiny children.

Head East – Never Been any Reason Lyrics 14 years ago
Seems more like he is talking about a woman that maybe doesn't think of him much, with lines like "Never been any reason for you to think about me," and "Would you be my companion, is there even a chance?" She's such a great woman, she's better than drugs ("better than a white line").

However, it would be funnier and would take on a different meaning if it was changed to "Shave my wife I'm going down for the last time."

Phish – Character Zero Lyrics 14 years ago
The "king" idea might have some merit as I just saw this on the Phish website under letters from January 1997. Someone asked "Who is Mulcahy and why is he the man? Further, why do you ought to see him?" This was the response:

"Mike Here. I don't know who he is; never really thought to wonder, but now I'll try to help anyway. Let's see...melech in Hebrew "means" king, clearly the etymology here. So I ought to see the King. Well, I guess I must be trying to see that majestic royal guy. Taking a gander at the old throned one...I might perhaps steal a peak at the crowned one."

Jimmy Dean – Big Bad John Lyrics 14 years ago

Karate – If You Can Hold Your Breath Lyrics 14 years ago
Musically, this song sounds so much like it could be a Fugazi song. As for what it means, I'm not sure, other than spending all night at Walden Pond drinking beer, and pretending it is wine.

submissions
Jawbox – Iodine Lyrics 14 years ago
To me, it sounds like it might be about being bullied. The "note pinned on your back" (perhaps a "kick me" sign), and the part about "say it like you mean it" and "ten times fast", make me think of someone who is being picked on. Sometimes it can go too far, thus the question, "sickness or a crime?"

Frank Black – Czar Lyrics 15 years ago
If it is about John Denver, then the first verse makes sense. He could be doing whatever he is talking about rather than being a singer/songwriter (making rhyme). He didn't need a band, since he could probably perform all his songs solo with an acoustic guitar. He was a mountain man would refer to some of his songs like "Rocky Mountain High" and "Take Me Home Country Roads."

Minor Threat – Minor Threat Lyrics 15 years ago
Conservatives can like Minor Threat too. In fact, in an age when government is trying to take more control of our lives, you'd think more punks would be conservative.

Joan Baez – The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down Lyrics 15 years ago
Actually, on the version I have, she says " 'til so much cavalry came." I do see that she sang "Stonewall's" on the Muppets clip I just saw on Youtube, though. On wikipedia it says:

"Baez later told Rolling Stone's Kurt Loder that she initially learned the song by listening to the recording on the Band's album, and had never seen the printed lyrics at the time she recorded it, and thus sang the lyrics as she'd (mis)heard them. In more recent years in her concerts, Baez has performed the song as originally written by Robertson.[4]"

Public Enemy – Cold Lampin' with Flavor Lyrics 15 years ago
Yes, "I'm" makes more sense than "Um", but that is the way it is in the lyrics included on the CD insert. It's more reflective of how he is pronouncing it.

My favorite line is, "Flavors are electric - try me - get a shock-a, Didn't I tell you to leave Frlavor Flav alone knock-a."

The lyrics certainly don't match the "On My Way" that is on The Fun of Watching Fireworks. The clip of the Know By Heart version of "Gone To Earth" on iTunes seems to match these lyrics, but I can't tell if it is missing the parts you mention.

Bachman-Turner Overdrive – Let It Ride Lyrics 15 years ago
Oh, and about the songs with repeated lyrics. I recall listening to American Top 40 back in the late 70's or early 80's. I think it may have been a special show about records. In fact I just looked it up and it was American Top 40 Book of Records on July 5, 1980. "Ain't No Sunshine" by Bill Withers was played because it repeated "I Know" something like 25 times in a row. This song has more "Let it rides", but not in a row.

submissions
Bachman-Turner Overdrive – Let It Ride Lyrics 15 years ago
I always thought it was "Try try try to let it ride" as well, especially since it has the "to" in there. That makes the others make no sense. Without the to, "ride" would still make more sense than "drive". I wonder if the first line above is wrong as well. It says "Hard life." I thought it was "I lied", which would fit with other lyrics in the song.

As for the meaning, it sounds like a troubled relationship. Would you forgive and "let it ride", or would you "say goodbye" and leave. I'm a little unsure of who did wrong here though. Perhaps one did wrong and the other is asking how they would react if the situation was reversed.

Five Finger Death Punch – The Way of the Fist Lyrics 15 years ago
I'm thinking that he was commenting on the meaning of the song.

I've only heard clips of this band on iTunes. I discovered them when I was looking through a list of new releases, and this had to be one of the best band/album name combinations I have ever heard.

Frank Black and the Catholics – Freedom Rock Lyrics 16 years ago
There used to be these ads on TV for this music compilation you could buy called "Freedom Rock". It was stuff from the late 60's and early 70's, Found the commercial on Youtube with a list of the songs in the description - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jKDk-mg1J9Q. If Frank was referring to this, then maybe it came "as a shock" to some people that an icon of alternative rock listened to all of that classic rock that many of the punks rejected.

Fugazi – 23 Beats Off Lyrics 16 years ago
When I first heard this song, I made the Magic Johnson connection, but not the Michael Jordan connection. Beating off didn't even occur to me. I knew they had a song called "Two Beats Off", which I figured had to with something being not right, out of sync. So, I thought "23 beats off" was something that was really messed up, and finding out Magic had AIDS was quite a shock.

Fugazi – Exit Only Lyrics 16 years ago
When he says "sympatric", it sounds a little bit like "Stupid Pet Trick". On a more serious note, when I looked up that definition of sympatric years ago, the first thing that came to mind was something about race relations. Their next album has the song "Smallpox Champion" which dealt with wiping out the Native Americans by giving them infected blankets, so somehow I made a connection between the two songs. Perhaps it is about how we can exist in the same place as minorities but overlook them and not be concerned about them.
