Shooting Star – You've Got Love Lyrics 2 years ago
The lyrics shown here are from an entirely different song: You\'ve Got What I Need from their first (self-titled) album. Not sure who screwed up here, SongMeanings or Sony Music Publishing. Early in 2021 I submitted all the correct lyrics for You\'ve Got Love from the album Hang on For Your Life. But it seems to be going nowhere. Sigh.

@[Volver88:36633] The guitar solo at 2:07 definitely has a George Harrison sound to it

David Gilmour – A Pocketful Of Stones Lyrics 10 years ago
Forgetting the words for the moment, this tune is haunting and beautiful. Gilmour is a musical genius.

Dream Theater – This is the Life Lyrics 12 years ago
Wow, what a introspective and powerful song. This is much bigger than MP related. "Time races on. What will they say after you're gone". Love it

TransAtlantic – Bridge Across Forever Lyrics 16 years ago
The bridge is the passage across the "magic river" to heaven at our death. There's no reuniting with his lost love until he sees her again there.

Rush – Limbo Lyrics 16 years ago
Maybe this was obvious to everyone but me... The opening sound effects from this song are ripped from the opening of Bobby Pickett's "Monster Mash." I never made this connection until I heard Monster Mash the other day and expected Geddy's bass part to come in.

Dream Theater – The Root of All Evil Lyrics 17 years ago
I find the ending of this song interesting. The last piano sequence doesn't fully "resolve". It ends on a note that sounds like the song is incomplete - like there should be one more note.

This was surely intentional and must add some meaning in the context of the song. Perhaps that MP doesn't feel he's fully "arrived", or maybe symbolic that alcoholics are never 100% cured.

Dream Theater – Octavarium Lyrics 18 years ago
This may be obvious, but only if you were around in the 70's... In III. Full Circle, the line "eugene gene the dance machine" is a reference to a character that would appear on the 70's Gong Show every so often, whose name was "Gene, Gene, the Dance Machine".

Like Kyle, I too noticed the Pink Floyd influence at the beginning. Does anyone else think the last couple of minutes (specifically 21:30 on) sounds very similar to the soundtrack from the movie Signs? Especially the section with the string arpeggios at 22:37. Influenced by James Newton Howard or not, this is a great song that's composed wonderfully.
