Lydia – Assailants Lyrics | 14 years ago |
*its I hate it when people do that, and I do it, haha. |
Lydia – Assailants Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I don't know, I think this is about the band in general, especially paired with Enjoy The Show and it's lines about a farewell. I think the assailants are just the generally shitty things that happened to the band (getting stuff stolen, disputes, etc.), and it just keeps piling up with something new. |
Johnny Foreigner – Ohai, Sentinels Lyrics | 14 years ago |
The rest is something like: (the panic, the planning) Ohai, sentinels We'll be (?) story Decorate each rooftop with discarded Christmas lights Starry night (?) debris Flying kites in the wind Stares (?) And the panic hits you first Dead before you hit the ground |
Lydia – Empty Out Your Stomach Lyrics | 14 years ago |
You should edit out that comment at the top, it's not lyrics. Just post it down here. "You're staring away, I once (?)" [it's not understand you] It's also not "empty" but I can't figure out what he's saying. Think it's "I lost my mouth, can you speak for me?" |
Lydia – We Clean Up So Well Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I meant "You're *no* different girl" |
Lydia – We Clean Up So Well Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Pretty much what I heard apart from a few minor things: "So I told you, I know how this ends You're not different girl, but we could still pretend" and I think it's "(I believe, I believe her)" |
Los Campesinos! – Coda: A Burn Scar in the Shape of the Sooner State Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I disagree with the morgue interpretation. It's actually 'they'd described you nude in detail; I knew everything' which means to me that he knew about all her problems, and still had desire to get to know her and such. |
Los Campesinos! – Plan A Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Agree x100000000 |
Los Campesinos! – Coda: A Burn Scar in the Shape of the Sooner State Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Or if you look at it from The Sea Is a Good Place, mountains are facing yr problems, but all she wants to do is be dragged away to another seashore, and not face them. |
Los Campesinos! – Coda: A Burn Scar in the Shape of the Sooner State Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Also, mountains - fixed, sea - constantly shifting? He wants a fixed relationship, but she doesn't. |
Los Campesinos! – Coda: A Burn Scar in the Shape of the Sooner State Lyrics | 14 years ago |
The official lyrics say: "They'd described you nude in detail, I knew everything: An artists impression of the Manhattan Skyline and a soon to be burn scar, In the perfect shape of the Sooner state." |
Los Campesinos! – Coda: A Burn Scar in the Shape of the Sooner State Lyrics | 14 years ago |
But why would he have 'liked there to have been' more times he found her like that? |
Los Campesinos! – I Just Sighed. I Just Sighed, Just So You Know Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Haha, you're actually right, just got the album today, and the booklet says 'Me; rolling, writhing on the floor' |
Motion City Soundtrack – @!#?@! Lyrics | 14 years ago |
OoT reference for the win! I think I probably beat it for the first time in 1999 too :) |
Motion City Soundtrack – Her Words Destroyed My Planet Lyrics | 14 years ago |
It's a play on 'residual blues' with respect to Justin's past troubles with alcohol. |
Los Campesinos! – I Just Sighed. I Just Sighed, Just So You Know Lyrics | 14 years ago |
'Writing' isn't necessarily nonsensical, given the opening lines "I am writing this at 7:10 am / On the hard dry tarmac of a vacant forecourt." |
Los Campesinos! – We've Got Your Back (Documented Minor Emotional Breakdown #2) Lyrics | 14 years ago |
I'm sweating off the cheat notes on my thighs |
Los Campesinos! – Don't Tell Me to Do the Math(s) Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Also, "sticking fingers into sockets" is a reference to Nosferatu D2's (whom Gareth has mentioned on the blog a bit of late) 'Flying Things and Pests: "Let's stick our fingers in the sockets and make this evening interesting". |
Los Campesinos! – Who Fell Asleep In Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Just worked it out, it's 'blaspheme'. |
Los Campesinos! – Who Fell Asleep In Lyrics | 14 years ago |
My bad. Embarrassing :| |
Johnny Foreigner – Ghost The Festivals Lyrics | 14 years ago |
*Brushing off your hands with my arms set to sympathetic *And be out by dark *Stepping through the wreckage, all the cans and the skeletal tents |
Los Campesinos! – There Are Listed Buildings Lyrics | 14 years ago |
- Create your own flash *show with security lights Excellent tune! |
Los Campesinos! – There Are Listed Buildings Lyrics | 14 years ago |
- You *plug and you *plug - They're not interested, I'm your only *bite |
fun. – At Least I'm Not as Sad (As I Used to Be) Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Yeah, this is definitely true. I think he's trying to be ironic, or put on a brave face / act all cool (as it's not seen to be 'cool' to be in love nowadays, more to sleep around). I think Nate is this really loving person ("he thinks we all just lovers"), but it's not always best for him to act this way. |
fun. – Benson Hedges Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Yeah, I'm 99% sure it's: "Now at least the birds are singing to me ... I think they come for the cold" then "Now I believe the sun, it's like a symphony. ... I think it's comfort in cold" Makes a bit more sense. |
Panic! at the Disco – New Perspective Lyrics | 15 years ago |
You're kidding me right? (!!!!!!) Pretty. Odd. was them growing as musicians. This is tripe. |
The Young Veins – Change Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I love it too. Way better than New Perspective. Way to de-evolve Panic. But I digress. Ryan's voice reminds me of Jack White a bit in this song. Awesome. |
fun. – Take Your Time (Coming Home) Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Very good, I like those connections. Another could: "See, I made it out. Out from under the sun." From On Your Porch, "now it's time to get out of the desert and into the sun". The sun was this success in the music industry him and Sam were hoping for, but it ends up being this big force beating down at him, so for him to leave the Format would be getting "out from under the sun". Just my thoughts. |
fun. – Benson Hedges Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Or "I think they come for the cold" |
fun. – At Least I'm Not as Sad (As I Used to Be) Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I thought the same thing actually. It kinda reminds me of "I'm gonna sleep around in hopes that I'm gonna catch back up", and "I fall in love far too quickly". |
fun. – Benson Hedges Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Isn't it "I think it's comfort in cold"? |
Los Campesinos! – You'll Need Those Fingers For Crossing Lyrics | 15 years ago |
From Gareth: "The song is about a couple of star-crossed Atheist lovers, together in sickness, sacrificing themselves to whatever. One of the characters being a version of myself (seemingly Good) and the other character being somebody I was involved with who I viewed as The Bad." |
Johnny Foreigner – Absolute Balance Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Haha, or not. Candles is a different song to Candles and Cults. Candles is on their B-Sides thingy. Not like anyone is reading this... |
Johnny Foreigner – Absolute Balance Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Haha, or not. I'm an idiot. Candles (and Cults) is an old JoFo song from their real debut... |
Johnny Foreigner – Absolute Balance Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This song uses a piece of music from the end of Sunset Cinema Club's Candles which was on the split EP they did with JoFo. |
Phoenix – Rome Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I agree completely. He's moved to Rome, or she's moved to Rome and is with a new guy, but it's not a good relationship ("single in his bed somewhere"). That's what I get. |
Phoenix – Lisztomania Lyrics | 15 years ago |
"The term "Lisztomania" was coined by the German romantic literary figure Heinrich Heine to describe the massive public response to Liszt's virtuosic piano performances. At these performances, there were allegedly screaming women, and the audience was sometimes limited to standing room only." |
Johnny Foreigner – Our Bipolar Friends Lyrics | 15 years ago |
"This songs a bit about last year’s social craze of declaring yrself bipolar (because being gay or a self harmer or an anorexic is too passé), and also a bit of a dig at the Birmingham music scene; everyone talks of starting something great but never supports anything else." From the great little track-by-track written by Alexei (http://drownedinsound.com/in_depth/3284105) |
The Drones – Cold and Sober Lyrics | 15 years ago |
It ain't her in the drink It's the other way 'round - such a clever line, saying that it's actually the narrator 'in the drink', as in drunk. Think it's probably about being with someone who doesn't appreciate your drinking. They've told you to stop drinking or lose them, perhaps? (The first time i met you i knew / One taste meant i was through) Then he drinks again (And the morning light comes shining / Through all the bottles laying drained and empty/ In resignation 'round you), and perhaps relapses into his old ways ("just this time will be alright but ain't nothing gonna / be the same again, friend") Just my theory. |
Bon Iver – RE: Stacks Lyrics | 15 years ago |
re: crows He mentions crouching like a crow in Blindsided. I doubt he would reuse such imagery in two songs unless they were related, so... "There's a black crow sitting across from me; his wiry legs are crossed And he's dangling my keys he even fakes a toss" He's looking back on himself (the crow in aforementioned song). The past has the keys to unlocking himself to move on and forward in his life, but at that point in the song, he hadn't quite made it yet (faked a toss, throwing him the keys). Then... "Whatever could it be That has brought me to this loss?" Thinking on it more, he comes to his own personal catharsis, and is 'unlocked' per the final verse. Just my opinion :) |
Animal Collective – Brother Sport Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I think it's 'no hope to hold inside', but the rest is right. |
Fall Out Boy – 20 Dollar Nose Bleed Lyrics | 15 years ago |
(...) Please take me back, please take be back = Permanent jetlag Please take me back, please take me back |
Architecture in Helsinki – Heart It Races Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I agree that the Dr. Dog cover is amazing, perhaps more so than the original, but I disagree that Places Like This was bad. |
Dear and the Headlights – Oh No! Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Definitely seems like a stalker to me. |
Dear and the Headlights – Hallelujah Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This song takes one hell of a new meaning when you think about the grandfather suicide thing. Makes this song very very sad, and not exactly what it seemed on first glance. |
Dear and the Headlights – It's Gettin' Easy Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I love the metaphors in this song, I mean, 'dancing puppets on short saliva strings' is brilliant. Personally I think it's about not believing in anything you have to say, fairly common for a singer or indie band who aren't getting much recognition. It's about not being able to get out what you really want in the way you want to say it, and get respect from people. I think the executioner line is saying he's killing his own ideas by doubting what he has to say, or something like that. |
Los Campesinos! – Drop It Doe Eyes Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Fantastic song, and I can't compete with Gareth's meaning. I'm pretty sure it's 'dissing my postage stamps' too. |
Fall Out Boy – What a Catch, Donnie Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Pretty sure "The captain goes down with the ship" is a Brand New, Play Crack the Sky reference. The ending is epic |
Ben Folds – Hiroshima Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Great song, and I like jonasriver's interpretation as well. Is there a video of this true story anywhere on the net? |
Margot & the Nuclear So and So's – Broadripple Is Burning Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I think he's saying, despite all the bad stuff that goes on in Broadripple, he's still thankful, and he's still got a lot there. Or that's how I take it. |
