The Hold Steady – A Slight Discomfort Lyrics | 11 years ago |
Is this evidence of Holly's much anticipated fall from grace after redemption at the end of Seperation Sunday? |
The Hold Steady – Multitude of Casualties Lyrics | 11 years ago |
...and yet also infinitely deeper than that. |

Buck 65 – Blood Pt 2 Lyrics | 14 years ago |
they're just similies, albeit rather obscure and interesting |
Bon Iver – Ring Out Lyrics | 14 years ago |
'I just kept noticing your mouth, and how your face just fit Into every aching void, in what I've always missed some way.' 'Cause you're made of everything I want, and I am ringing you out.' Those two lines just do it for me, don't know why. And MissingStrings, yes you're right. |
Bon Iver – Creature Fear Lyrics | 14 years ago |
yeah that little rattle has me intrigued as well. i have heard it on a live version too, but those times when its not there it doesnt sound right |

Dan Le Sac VS Scroobius Pip – Waiting For The Beat To Kick In Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I think Billy Brown is Scroobius Pip's real name. The description fits him perfectly, and he says "I ain't gonna give you some quote,/Instead I'm gonna use some stuff that YOU wrote". It's like his real, down to earth, every day alter ego is reminding him of these things, to keep his feet on the ground, so he doesn't get wrapped up in his stage persona. I think we all have to remind ourselves of things sometimes. |
Buck 65 – Blood Pt 2 Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Lyrically this is amazing. The second part particularly gets me, not sure why. It seems to be recalling two particularly perfect days he spent with his girl. One, she woke him with breakfast, they got caught in a storm, went home dried out and watched films. Then 'The summer times and you move' and all the things the got up to before she left, the "Goodbye Sex" - 'Grass stains and flushed face, Refreshing like a glass of milk, Your shaven legs were like silk, You kiss me like a bon voyage' going to a water park and 'Making out in photo booths, A lovely Saturday night alone' The line 'Not cotton swabs and bloody lies' seems to hint at medical testing, but I don't know what the "bloody lies" could be. |
Bon Iver – Sides Lyrics | 15 years ago |
'And your knowing of the lords own way through' and 'You said, I'm not on your side' pretty obvious what this is about, religion for the wrong reasons. great song |
Simon and Garfunkel – The Only Living Boy In New York Lyrics | 15 years ago |
sounds to me like they're saying 'aaaaaa aaaaaaaaa aaaaa here i am' |
Jewel – Foolish Games Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I think this is about guys that are seen as fashionable and desirable but in reality are complete jerks. They give us good guys a bad name. The fact that the first line is repeated again at the end shows that even though he's been a shit, the things at the beginning of the relationship, that made him stand out, that made her fall for him, are still there at the end. He hasn't changed, its just she's noticed his real qualities somewhere in between. |
Minnie Riperton – Inside My Love Lyrics | 15 years ago |
speak for yourself, the 4:40 version does me |
Bon Iver – Blood Bank Lyrics | 15 years ago |
OK, now this is probably a long shot and it's mainly thinking aloud but... I see it as the the three of them (Vernon, his girlfriend and his brother) have gone to give blood - hence them looking at the bags: "Well I met you at the blood bank We were looking at the bags Wondering if any of the colors Matched any of the names we knew on the tags You said "see look thats yours! Stacked on top with your brother's See how the resemble one another Even in their plastic little covers"" As I understand when you give blood they run tests to make sure it's safe, but this would also pick up on her pregnancy. "And I said I know it well That secret that you know But don't know how to tell It fucks with your honour And it teases your head But you know that its good girl Cos its running you with red 'It fucks with your honour' because she's not married, and some people still hold views on that. 'It teases your head' - her mind is teasing her with glimpses of what the future is going to be like with a child. 'But you know that its good girl" She know its something 'good', to be celebrated. 'Cause its running you with red' It's a life flowing with in her, literally and metaphorically. The rest of the song is them celebrating this and each other. Again, just thinking aloud. |
The King Blues – What If Punk Never Happened Lyrics | 15 years ago |

Jeff Buckley – So Real Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Jeff once said of this song, 'If you divine what the meaning of this song is for you then experience is much stronger'. |
Bon Iver – Flume Lyrics | 15 years ago |
in an interview i read (but cant remember where)he says that he chose some words for their rhythm and sound more than literal meaning. just kind of agreeing with trusso and blue.painted.tears. having said that the lines 'I wear my garment so it shows/Now you know' sounds to me like another way of saying 'I wear my heart on my sleeve'. And 'Flume' is probably a reference to a stove he had in his cabin. maybe he just looked at the flume and thought it sounded right and sang it. |
Art Brut – Rusted Guns of Milan Lyrics | 15 years ago |
if you ever get a chance to hear this live then take it. |
Art Brut – Pump Up The Volume Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I think it's about how some people couldn't give a shit about music ("It may as well have been radio static") while to others it means so much they will put it before sex. |
Bon Iver – Blue Tulip (Okkervil River cover) Lyrics | 15 years ago |
This is an Okkervil River cover. the way he sings the last couple of lines... |
Jeff Buckley – Kanga-Roo Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I've got a version where it starts off as (the original lyric-less) Vancouver and goes straight into this, Kanga-Roo. I think its from a show he did at the London Astoria. Just amazing... |
Bon Iver – Blood Bank Lyrics | 15 years ago |

Leonard Cohen – Morning Glory Lyrics | 15 years ago |
I've heard it said about numerous Leonard Cohen songs, but this is definitely about masturbation 'Do you think you can pull it off? Yes, it might happen. I'm all ears. I'm all ears. Oh the morning glory!'. He's getting tossed off after walking home with some girl. Simple |
Mercury Rev – A Drop in Time Lyrics | 15 years ago |

Emmy the Great – Edward Is Deadward Lyrics | 15 years ago |
theres no a in dedward. ask her and she'll tell you the same |
Bon Iver – Flume Lyrics | 15 years ago |
its not just about a break up with his girlfriend (who, for the record, wasn't called Emma). the whole album is a cathartic response to the breakup of justin vernons previous bands and previous girlfriends. its not about one specific moment or relationship, more about the false hope that comes with each new one. having become overwhelmed he went into the cabin to get away from having to start something new, just concentrate on day to day living. the record is him putting everything that happened up until then into perspective. |
Foo Fighters – My Hero Lyrics | 15 years ago |
'My Hero' was written as a celebration of the common man and his extraordinary potential." - Dave Grohl, (quite rightly) pissed off about John McCain using it as his campaign song. It is NOT about Kobain, although i'm sure other songs are. source: http://uk.news.launch.yahoo.com/dyna/article.html?a=/081008/340/i8axw.html&e=l_news_dm |
Bon Iver – Creature Fear Lyrics | 15 years ago |
no marculatroen, i think that creature fear refers to the innate fear in animals that has evolved as a survival mechanism. in humans it can hold us back for fear of failure or embarrassment |

Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly – The Lighthousekeeper Lyrics | 16 years ago |
get.cape.rule is right. sam said it was about a time he played a gig in his home town. when walking home along the seafront after the gig he saw that someone had set the pier on fire. again. he told the story better than that and it was actually quite funny. was awesome live last week with the three man brass section. |
Get Cape. Wear Cape. Fly – Young & Lovestruck Lyrics | 16 years ago |
how fickle teenage emotions are, how they think they know what they are feeling, when in reality how could they as they have no experience of feeling those emotions before. sam duckworth is a brilliant lyricist and a wry observer of social and political themes |
Broken Family Band – It's All Over Lyrics | 16 years ago |
skins is tv for ballbags dressed in day-glo. but this song is the nuts x |
Dan Le Sac VS Scroobius Pip – Tommy C Lyrics | 16 years ago |
probly my favourite on the album. obviously this is using tommy cooper's death as an example of beauty, but whats the chorus about? I think I may be missing something... 'Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, I was lucky enough to be near her so i told her. Funnily enough I missed the freckles on her shoulder, and that even on the hottest of nights her skin was colder.' |
The Broken Family Band – It's All Over Lyrics | 16 years ago |
skins is shit. how dare they use this song and cause it to be forever associated with something that puerile, insincere and downright shit |
Dan Le Sac VS Scroobius Pip – Fixed Lyrics | 16 years ago |
when they do it live they introduce it by saying 'Do you like British hip hop? I dont i think its shit!' and hes got a point, to quote scroobius pip, "ive listened and i cant even find one quote which is worth using as a reference or even as a footnote" |
Dan Le Sac VS Scroobius Pip – 1000 Lyrics | 16 years ago |
doubt it as its just a spoken word piece. could alwys be wrong though |
