Greg Lake – "I Believe In Father Christmas" Lyrics 16 years ago
Good song, with better, more insightful lyrics than most of Greg Lake's songs (due probably to Peter Sinfield co-writing it). However, it rips off the melody of the Hollies' "Jennifer Eccles"...

Boz Scaggs – Lido Shuffle Lyrics 17 years ago
^Good explanation. A "handle" can also be the money used to bet on something, which is probably what it means here.

Awesome song!

Squeeze – 853-5937 Lyrics 17 years ago
This was their second biggest hit in the U.S. However, the band members hate it and have refused to let it be included on their greatest hits albums.

Tom Petty – American Girl Lyrics 17 years ago
Contrary to popular belief, in an interview found in the book Conversations with Tom Petty, Petty said this song is NOT about a drug-related suicide at UF (which is just an urban legend). Rather, it was inspired by a freeway running by a California apartment that he lived in.

Gordon Lightfoot – Carefree Highway Lyrics 17 years ago
Oh man, just one comment? Awesome song, one of my all-time favorites.

Petra – More Power To Ya Lyrics 17 years ago
Interesting fact: Secular country artist Tim McGraw performed this at some of his concerts.

This was included in the book The 100 Greatest Songs in Christian Music, which is strange because while it's a good song, it's definitely not one of Petra's best.

Petra – Witch Hunt Lyrics 17 years ago
TinyTim is right. The band also backmasked hidden messages in the song, making fun of the televangelists who claimed there were "evil messages" hidden in rock songs.

Petra – Killing My Old Man Lyrics 17 years ago
It's about a man's struggle to get rid of his old, sinful self, but it could easily be misinterpreted as a plan to kill his father. For that reason, the record label cut it from their 1977 album Come and Join Us; it made its appearance later on 1981's Never Say Die.

Tesla – Love Song Lyrics 17 years ago
Best power ballad ever as far as I'm concerned. Tesla is indeed underrated.

Petra – God Gave Rock and Roll to You Lyrics 17 years ago
Initially a hit for Argent written by Russ Ballard. Petra rewrote the verses and started performing it at their early shows, and it became something of a signature song for them in the 70s. Its first appearance on an album was on 1977's Come and Join Us, then they recorded a different version for 1985's Beat the System.

Petra – Seen and Not Heard Lyrics 17 years ago
Petra "borrowed" the riff from Kiss' "Heaven's on Fire" in this song; their guitarist later claimed he did not know he was using a riff from a Kiss song. They put it to good use though.

It's about how Christians are supposed to match what we say with what we do, so atheists don't look at us like hypocrites.

Petra – Beyond Belief Lyrics 17 years ago
Apparently there aren't many Petra fans at this site, but I figured I'd just go ahead and add songs from their most popular and arguably best album, Beyond Belief.

This is such an awesome song. It starts out with sort of a light pop sound, then transitions into hard arena rock, then goes through a cool guitar solo and a dramatic climax before returning to the initial sound. The chorus is unforgettable, and the whole thing is just so uplifting. One of the best moments ever in contemporary Christian music, and in arena rock in general as far as I'm concerned.

Aldo Nova – Fantasy Lyrics 17 years ago
I've never heard anything about Nova "partying it up hard"; he lost popularity because his second album was a more experimental effort instead of a carbon-copy of his first like the record company wanted.

Awesome song, and the rest of the album was great too. Very underrated artist who should have had more hits.

John Parr – St. Elmo's Fire (Man in Motion) Lyrics 17 years ago
It was used as the theme song to the movie of the same name, but it actually has nothing to do with the movie; bfurtado is right, it's about Rick Hansen.

I spent months with the chorus to this song stuck in my head, but I had no idea what the artist or lyrics were. Finally, I heard it on an 80s radio station and was able to find it via google. I agree with traviswrdunbar, it's possibly the most motivational song I've ever listened to, one of my favorites from the 80s.

Petra – Judas' Kiss Lyrics 17 years ago
This has to be one of the best Christian rock songs ever. The meaning is obvious, it's about how Jesus feels when people turn away from Him.

The Verve Pipe – The Freshmen Lyrics 17 years ago
Does anybody have a preference between the single version and the version on the Villains album? I have the album and love the version on it, but I want to know if I'm missing out by not having the one that got all the radio play.
