Before she says "Oh god, why am I tired?" right at the end, I'm pretty sure she says "We're troopers" |

Franz Ferdinand – Ulysses Lyrics
|
Ah man, who can't relate to this? Going with what Alex said about how this is a concept album detailing a night out on a town, and the fact that this is the first song on Tonight, I say it's about preparing for the night out. I can imagine them all sitting in a hotel room, and people are coming over as they prepare to go out. The girls are putting on their make-up and they're all getting high, knowing that the night is going to be even wilder than the previous. Then, they are off and getting farther and farther from home (physically and mentally from the drugs), and it just feels like you're never getting home, you're not Ulysses. |

Sunset Rubdown – Stallion Lyrics
|
In the book The Outsiders there is a really famous line that says "stay gold, pony boy"
I see that maybe he was trying to 'stay gold' off his life to-do list to look at it specifically. He already grew up though, so he is now a stallion instead of a pony boy and he doesn't believe in the same ideals as before. |

Sunset Rubdown – Colt Stands Up, Grows Horns Lyrics

I know this might be unrelated, but there is this really crappy horror movie called Idle Hands where this guy's hand gets possessed? I guess and then forces him to go and kill people. |

Why? – Light Leaves Lyrics
|
I disagree about the masturbation thing. I think that he is saying after he dies, he doesn't want to be buried or anything. His body is kind of just going to decompose and parts of it are going to go everywhere from airplanes to bathrooms. It is similar to the way leaves fall off trees and then become part of the earth. His body is going to go back to nature, it won't be lounging around in heaven. |

Belle & Sebastian – Stay Loose Lyrics
|
I always think of this song as reminding you to chill out and take things easy. It's as if the narrator is wound up and always going 90 miles an hour, and this person is just responding calmly. He doesn't see how things could get better, and the person the narrator is looking to just wants to stay loose or go with the flow. This song always cheers me up. |

The Radio Dept. – Your Father Lyrics

I don't think the jerking off thing is inappropriate at all. The narrator is just being honest about what he has been up to, and I think that is just a crude way to say that he thinks about his ex-lover constantly. I definitely see the homosexual aspect of it, but it's not clear enough to concretely confirm or deny. |

This song might me dedicated to me. After an OR concert, I waited to meet Will Sheff and he was so uninterested and terse. It pretty much sucked. |

Okkervil River – Lost Coastlines Lyrics

Obviously there is a lot of reference to other songs too. For example, the sailing ship could be referring to a girl in port, and he is saying he could continue doing this if he pleases. It also mentions a key (No Key, No Plan) and a star (Song About a Star, All the Latest Toughs) |

Why? – Good Friday Lyrics

Alopecia is not about the same girl if you read Yoni's interviews. I agree that at parts (exes new man) it seems as if he is hung up, but I think it is a hang up on the past in general not necessarily meant to be interpreted so narrowly. It's the chorus/repeated line that confuses me mostly. Any ideas? |

Belle & Sebastian – Wrapped Up in Books Lyrics

I think that the relationship is him and the city. He has never had a fight with the city i.e. it's always been good to him, but it's just time to try to leave. He never really embraced the town and perhaps now he is leaving to go tour and just missed this opportunity to run with it. |

Say Anything – Shiksa (Girlfriend) (feat. Caithlin De Marrais) Lyrics

I don't know if anybody put this yet, but I am almost positive that in real life he is dating the lead singer of the Dallas based band Eisley. I have seen him at one of their shows before, and he said today at Warped Tour that he was moving to Texas (presumably to be with her) |

I don't think Krug is trying to make his voice sound grungy. It's the level at which he is singing; it also parallels the way his voice sounds on some Sunset Rubdown songs |

The Rosebuds – Drunkards Worst Nightmare Lyrics
| 16 years ago
|
I love this song. Obviously it's about a girl that using promiscuity as a crutch. She is searching for her man and has all of her overnight things with her because she is prepared to stay out all night. However, she doesn't believe that heaven's too far away. This always makes me think of the NMH line that "god is a place where some holy spectacle lies" and that her extravagance kind of denotes that her heaven can be achieved on Earth. This guy, on the other hand, is in the train with a black heart, possibly just suffered some sort of heartbreak. In the end, the promiscuous girl doesn't believe forever is too far away and the boy is again on the train with a broken heart. Maybe they are meant to be together, but are both searching for the wrong people. |

Shout Out Louds – Tonight I Have To Leave It Lyrics
| 16 years ago
|
My favorite part is "So I heard you know how to right it, Does that mean you're good at putting things on paper?"
I know the Shout Out Loud's appreciate irony so I'm assuming they would have meant right not write. At least I interpret it as 'right' it, and he's just answering in an sarcastic, semi-bitter tone.
Evidently here's a link to a video of them playing it live in Dallas last November

Los Campesinos! – We Are All Accelerated Readers Lyrics
| 16 years ago
|
I absolutely love the part about reality being the opposite of true love. It's so true and eloquently stated. I think that sometimes it is just best to leave the past in the past, hence building walls as opposed to bridges. The relationship was not going anywhere; they were fighting. |

Los Campesinos! – Knee Deep at ATP Lyrics
| 16 years ago

The other person moved on and they are left behind... Now they recognize they need to move on, and attempt to attack their ex-lover's personality directly. However, they are obviously still upset as seen by the general nature of the song. It's pretty simple. |

Los Campesinos! – Drop It Doe Eyes Lyrics
| 16 years ago
|
Deer literally die with their eyes open. I think the significance of that incorporated into the title and chorus is that things are changing and the other person is acting like they are dead inside. They are saying 'drop it' in what seems to me an annoyed tone. It's saying that even though it was supposed to be simple, painless, "in shorthand", the whole thing was drawn out too much and left the narrator with "writer's cramp." The skeletons foreshadow what is going to happen while the narrator dreams of better things. |

Los Campesinos! – My Year in Lists Lyrics

The narrator clearly believes in change, but doesn't want to evolve in his/her current situation anymore. The best part is the bit about hopefulness and hopelessness. |

I agree basically with most of the above people. He shows that it would be easy to move on from the relationship literally. But mentally he hasn't moved on because he still misses her. |

Los Campesinos! – You! Me! Dancing! Lyrics

Yea, it seems like it's about dancing, not sex. I think the bit about clothes on the floor has to do with dancing alone in your room. I guess they are letting their guards down and just going crazy with dancing. |

Los Campesinos! – It Started with a Mixx Lyrics
| 16 years ago

I agree that it is about giving a mix tape to someone you care about. Obviously the creator put a lot of time into it, but it was probably overlooked (such as the hidden meanings of the track selections).
It's pretty simple-minded and straightforward. |

Los Campesinos! – Death to Los Campesinos! Lyrics
| 16 years ago
|
I'm guessing this song is about putting too much faith into machines. It's like you almost forgot the computer (or other technology) isn't real hence mistaking cables for veins and thinking the computer is bleeding.
People always say that technology will be our downfall, so it seems as if Los Campesinos is saying that we created it and we can destroy it if we want to. |

Shout Out Louds – Don't Get Yourself Involved Lyrics

I believe it's about getting emotionally connected to something that should remain strictly physical. He is obviously listening to his friend's advice, but not heeding it. It is sort of mocking and, in a way, pro-existentialism. |

Shout Out Louds – Blue Headlights Lyrics

|
Wow, this song is definitely one of the best off the new C.D. Not only does it add a nice touch to have Bebban singing it, and the lyrics once again prove golden. Like most of their songs, the beginning has to do with personal stories. However, the end contains generalizations that prove relatable without being cliche. Genius. |

Shout Out Louds – Seagull Lyrics

At the beginning, he doesn't trust his friend so he sabotages his friend in some way. Then, he realizes that he is just as bad as his friend was, and his friend had no reason to trust him.
Why do you think it's called seagull though?
I met the band awhile back; I didn't think to ask. |
