A Perfect Circle – A Stranger Lyrics | 8 years ago |
Was listening to this passively while doing homework and I thought I heard "you'd fuck a tomato." Listened again, and I swear it was "you'd fuck a tomato." Wouldn't put it past Maynard, so I look up the lyrics. First thing I see is "calming apple"—I really thought I was going to discover this song was just about various fruits. I'm actually kind of disappointed it's not. |
Modest Mouse – Shit in Your Cut Lyrics | 9 years ago |
First line as given above: "I'd hate to take a shit in your cut" Hahaha oh man the imagery. I'm afraid it's "I hate to be shit in your cut" |
Hammock – What Heaven Allows Lyrics | 9 years ago |
I've been messing with EQ to really hear what the vocals are saying, and so far I'm not certain... But I'm pretty certain the lyrics posted here are a little off. This is what I think they should be: Take a little drive to the back of your mind Take a little drive to the back where you're lying Take a little drive to the back of your mind Take a little drive to the back where you're lying Take a little walk through the back your mind Take a little walk through the back where you're lying Still, it's inconclusive. Sounds like he might be saying "backwards", or "back or". Could be "you'll lie". It's really hard to say, some of these options don't add up. |
Ima Robot – Lovers in Captivity Lyrics | 9 years ago |
Nice! I really like this interpretation, I think it's spot on. Kind of what I was getting at here, I was just having trouble putting it all together. Great song anyway, very relatable, especially with what I think it means now. |
Death Cab for Cutie – Someday You Will Be Loved Lyrics | 9 years ago |
I'm going through the comments and I just can't take any of it seriously lol. I just imagine a bunch of 16 year old girls whining about love and stupid ex-boyfriends. Goodness, I know I am an ass, and I know how much relationships and love mean when you're that young, but several years from now you'll look back and think how lame it all was. Not that you realize love isn't real or any bullcrap like that, cause it is real, and romance is real, but... you look back on high school, and it's just... lame. Happy growing up! |
Death Cab for Cutie – Summer Skin Lyrics | 9 years ago |
I've heard this song many times before, but I've been sitting here reading the lyrics to songs as I listened to them, and when the last verse came it just hit me like a rock. There is something especially captivating about this line: "And we peeled the freckles from our shoulders..." I don't know, it makes me just think of great loss, like those poor freckles meant more to him than we can imagine. |
764-HERO – The Long Arm of the Law Lyrics | 9 years ago |
I've come to find that 764-HERO sounds really abrasive and even dissonant, or non-melodic at first, but after you listen to them for a while you'll come to find that they employ some pretty genius use of strange chord progressions and sharps and flats and whatnot, and in the end it all really makes sense, it all comes together. It's really clever and creative. This song is a good example of that. |
Tyler Ramsey – These Days Lyrics | 10 years ago |
Damn. I'm beginning to find that I can relate to Tyler Ramsey's lyrics a lot more than I can with most other artists. Good stuff. |
Underoath – To Whom It May Concern Lyrics | 10 years ago |
Did nobody else take the words "my feet have the scars to show" as a reference to Christ? As in the prints in His hands and feet? And in understanding that Christ had an incredibly hard life—in fact, the hardest life—the following two lines make sense as well. To me this whole song is sung from Christ's perspective. These are supposed to be His words to a struggling son or daughter of God. And all of us struggle, whether we believe in God or not. To me this is Christ saying "Take it from me, I know what it's like. I know the hard life. I know exactly what you are going through because I have felt it personally. For a time there on the cross I was forsaken and I know what it's like to be completely and utterly alone. And I did it for you, so you don't have to be alone, ever. This life was meant to be hard. You are meant to bear your own cross, because it will help you grow. It will help you reach the end of the road, it will help you find what you are longing for. And I will always help you get there, because that is what I long for." I don't know if Christ would say these exact things, and I don't know if he would say exactly what is said in this song. But I know for sure this is His message. As a Mormon (and inherently a Christian) I know this is true. Love Christ. Take care. |
Sun Kil Moon – Ben's My Friend Lyrics | 10 years ago |
I wish I could get the lyrics 100% —the "fine line" part and "touch of competitiveness" still bother me a little. Sounds like it may be "there's a tension—competitiveness". As for the "fine line" i have no clue what else it might be. Thanks ReadThese for changing "themselves" to "their cells". Such an awesome song. The lyrics are as raw as they come. And the chord progressions are amazing. |
The Killers – All These Things That I've Done Lyrics | 10 years ago |
I don't know if you'll ever read this buddy, but I hope you go. It's taken me three years of wondering if i should go or not, trying to commit to becoming worthy. I figured maybe it wasn't in the cards for me, perhaps I oughta just stay and get married or finish school or whatever. But i know for sure now that I gotta go, I'm sure your Father would be pleased if you did too. Best of luck man. |
Ben Howard – Under the Same Sun Lyrics | 10 years ago |
Wow. It's so weird, it seems that any lyrics I look at I can relate it directly to my own life. This song seems to describe a relationship I once had with an amazing girl. She was a charmer, I thought she was something special. But in a way we brought out some weaknesses in each other. Weaknesses that I really never told anyone about, except for her. We were very close, no wonder I waited for her. We had the opportunity to take some time apart when she went to live at home for several weeks. I hoped that when she came back, we would be better off, that perhaps I would overcome some of my personal issues, and that she would do the same, and then we could continue our relationship. I could be a better man for her, hold my arms around her, and she wouldn't have to be afraid anymore. But we didn't keep in contact much—it was part of our deal I suppose. I just hoped that she wouldn't change, that is, change her mind or feelings about me. In a way I'd ask myself, "will you be there? when the day is done?" I yearned for her so much to come back and love me. And my love for her ought to have been enough to change me, turn things around, change those weaknesses into strengths. And it did; I did change. I learned from her. Happy about my progress, I'd fantasize about when she'd come back. So many plans, so many things we could do together, and how we'd grow together. Lovely as she is... She didn't feel the same way. And now I have to let her go. If only you would've given me another shot Kenna. |
Ima Robot – 12=3 (Here Come the Doctors) Lyrics | 11 years ago |
well, actually 13 weeks equals three months - but yeah, i see what you're gettin at (13=3) |
Band of Horses – I Go to the Barn Because I Like the Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I can kinda see how this might be. In my itunes and I imagine in most media players the artist's name is to the right of the track title, so reading left to right you get "I Go To The Barn Because I Like The _ Band of Horses" But I still think it's a stretch... if anything "...I Like The Monsters" makes more sense. |
Band of Horses – I Go to the Barn Because I Like the Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I've always thought the same, that the two songs were part of a whole. One of the guitars has the same exact tone in each, it's panned the same from the end of Barn into the beginning of Monsters, the acoustic guitar to compliment it, the same exact arpeggiated chords–I'd be surprised if this was all coincidence. |
Band of Horses – Dumpster World Lyrics | 11 years ago |
"Don't pick up that trash, put more of it on the ground!" Haha, that one really get's me, for anyone who takes this seriously, c'mon now... |
Band of Horses – Dumpster World Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I've heard critics really ream this song for its apparently silly lyrics. But obviously the lyrics are highly sarcastic, "dumpster world" really is just a sort of satire on the modern world. |
Grandaddy – Nonphenomenal Lineage Lyrics | 11 years ago |
yes, yes, it's OBVIOUSLY about whatever you think it's about |
Grandaddy – Poisoned at Hartsy Thai Food Lyrics | 11 years ago |
I recently discovered this band and I'm really likin' them! If I had to guess I'd say that perhaps the singer himself or other bandmates had once gotten food poisoning after eating at some thai restaurant from their hometown. I could imagine making a fun little song about such an incident, kind of a bash on that stupid thai place that got him/them all sick :P |
Coheed and Cambria – 21:13 Lyrics | 12 years ago |
there is no such thing as 21:13 time signature, and there's no such thing as 13th beat |
Coheed and Cambria – 21:13 Lyrics | 12 years ago |
that comment was from 2004–you're an idiot :) |
Coheed and Cambria – The Light and the Glass Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Okay, so I've read all of The Amory Wars that has been released thus far, and I'm familiar with the story. Yet I have seen so many comments in which people are saying the song is about such-and-such happening in the story, yet that never happened. When the hell did Jesse ever get captured, tortured, and killed by the Prise? Why would they do that? I hear so many claims about references to the story, but I never read any such things. |
Coheed and Cambria – The Light and the Glass Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Man I think they should've ended the album with this song |
Coheed and Cambria – Time Consumer Lyrics | 12 years ago |
the comments on the first page are from 2002... way before anyone knew about any story |
Coheed and Cambria – Time Consumer Lyrics | 12 years ago |
dude you gotta look at the date... all these guys commented when the album came out, long before any of the story was published, or at least long enough before anyone got the chance to know the story, so you cant go blaming them for trying their best to interpret the lyrics |
Tool – Rosetta Stoned Lyrics | 12 years ago |
While this song clearly involves a DMT trip, or acid or whatever idk who cares–I don't think that's what the song is necessarily about. I think most of the song is just background, details that just fill up space, however cool it may be. Id say the focus of the song is simply about failure. The whole song tends to build up to the "overwhelmed as one may be..." part, which I think is like the crux of the song. All of this weight and pressure boiling down on one guy to accomplish this huge task and be a hero, whether it's real or not, and in the end he forgets his pen. Damn... Shit the bed, again. It kind seems to happen to all of us, and I think that this whole trip was just a story to tell the message. And I suppose it isn't much of a message I guess, it's just a relation to life. Disappointment comes and goes, but perhaps you could always eat some more acid and get another shot. |
Modest Mouse – Calculus Man Lyrics | 12 years ago |
Want my personal take? Isaac makes up a lot of lyrics and stuff whenever their just jamming on stage or wherever. From listening to this, to me, it definitely just sounds like Isaac's making up the lyrics as he goes. I mean they really don't make much sense, a lot like the way his lyrics don't make much sense when he's jamming and spitting them out in improvisation. My take is this was a jam sesh, it sounded real good so perhaps they decided to do some mixing and added effects and stuff and wah lah you have Calculus Man |
Tool – Right in Two Lyrics | 14 years ago |
Agreed. I don't know if this is relevant but The main idea i get from Tool and people's perception of Tool is that there is a higher state of consciousness that can be reached and maintained, and most of society (the monkeys i guess) are not in tune with this superior train of thought. But most of what i hear about this idea (higher consciousness) has nothing to do with God, religion, or any supreme/divine being, like the two couldn't possibly be co-existing. Cut that one right in two (giggle :) Now here's a thought: what if being spiritually in-tune and generally righteous IS that higher state of consciousness? The only question is, what is the correct definition of righteous? That answer is not unfound. |
Tool – Lateralus Lyrics | 14 years ago |
i think maynard might be making a reference to his/the interpretations of his galactic signature (mayan astrology). I don't know all too much about it myself, i just got done reading my own description of my galactic signature (which is determined by your date of birth). But either way, it corresponds to the song; maynard's description consists of Blue Storm, Blue Monkey, White Wind, Red Moon, and Yellow Sun -- each title is a description of an individual's self; who they are, who they will become, and offers advice on how to develop one's self and conscience throughout existence. In this case, these five title's are Maynard's personal interpretations/descriptions/advice/insights/etc in his galactic signature. Perhaps in the beginning of the song: "Black then white are all I see in my infancy Red and yellow then came to be, reaching out to me, let's me see" is the order of how his realization of self occurred, "black" possible being little knowledge of self and conscience, since there is no black title in Maynard's personal description or galactic signature. so he went from nothing, or lesser knowledge, then came to beleive/know about whatever White Wind's advice was to him, then Red Moon, then Yellow Sun, and so on. --just an idea as my interpretation of this song really, it's much less complicated then i've made it sound |
Tool – Rosetta Stoned Lyrics | 15 years ago |

Tool – Faaip de Oiad Lyrics | 15 years ago |
i listened to this song when i sitting in my car at night, up in the sequoia nation forest park place, stopped behind a police officer waiting for him to fix up whatever obstruction was in the road. out my sunroof i could see the dark trees and lots of stars, and i was super faded. so it scared the shit out of me, but it was baddass nevertheless haa |
Tool – Parabola Lyrics | 15 years ago |
i think this song is so much more insightful than most people would think. fucking powerful ass lyrics tell me that theres really something trying to get across to the listeners |
Hawthorne Heights – Ohio Is for Lovers Lyrics | 15 years ago |
excuse me, but i am positive i have a life. and i bashed on this song. because it amuses me, just as anything can amuse anybody. that's part of life. |
Hawthorne Heights – Ohio Is for Lovers Lyrics | 15 years ago |
but when would you get the chance to sleep at night if you're dead? |
Hawthorne Heights – Ohio Is for Lovers Lyrics | 15 years ago |
why would you cut your wrists? or black your eyes? and does that mean you punch yourself in the face or throw on some makeup? either way, it is a little odd if you wanna get hurt, go get in a fight, im sure there will be plenty that will be glad to stomp on your face |
Modest Mouse – Styrofoam Boots/It's All Nice on Ice, Alright Lyrics | 15 years ago |
i have always believed in god, but as mentioned in a comment or two previously, he is not what most say he is (hallelujah praise the lord! blaah blah blah) true, he is A god but nevertheless i think that there is a whole world of gods above us, each running their own little show (and when i say show i mean that maybe one god is running Earth, but "this whole thing" could be the universe as a whole), so what i mean is that the universe is a BIG fucking chunk of space, and their is probably a whole community, species, population, whatever, of gods in the universe that are each individually in charge of their own world of lesser beings, with perhaps a population of even greater beings above them, and so on until something truly genius is discovered and it ends. which means that each god is indeed not a god at all. they are the same, just superior than us; ("when everyone's super, no one is") its like gods, humans, animals, etc are all part of the food chain, or the pyramid of superiority, but the gap between humans and celestial beings is the first to be between a vale. idk, thats my two cents |
Wolf Parade – It's a Curse Lyrics | 15 years ago |
and that would make sense of the title of the song cuz that would be a curse long lasting incurable unsatisfaction |
Wolf Parade – It's a Curse Lyrics | 15 years ago |
his voice is different in this song, it sounds brilliant i thought perhaps its like when youre laying in bed and your terribly tired and boredbut you cant fall asleep, and you just move your body in weird ways because you cant stand to stay awake, like cringing from the chills kind of and you are in this state but your body dont care, its staying awake for whatever reason then you get up to go do something but you dont know what go everywhere in search of some interesting thing but theres nothing to do at night drive here, drive there, look at nothing at all, turn back cuz it is nothing, and then head back to some more nothing thats my opinion whish i had the other lyrics |
Wolf Parade – We Built Another World Lyrics | 15 years ago |
doesnt it seem like he says more after "outside theres girls saying" i mean i know there is its just hard to decipher, otherewise it wouldnt make sense if he just stopped in mid-sentence sounds like "folly friends" or something of that sort, surely thats not what it is tho help? |
Modest Mouse – Interstate 8 Lyrics | 15 years ago |
modest mouse is fucking ridiculous i dont get it lol i always new that MM played a lot of their shit backwards, but i never noticed that one of the guitars in this song is played backwards, until i really payed attention to the sounds how do you come up with a melody that works perfectly when played backwards against all other forward-playing tracks? isaac man, you are a damn genius |
Modest Mouse – All Night Diner Lyrics | 15 years ago |
i always wondered if there was more to this song then just a funny kinda story. thats why i came here, in hopes that maybe somebody had some deeper interpretations. i guess not, but im not blaming anyone, i got nothing so far, and the comments are pretty funny anyway haha "When I have sex I'm always thinking about the pavement so I can avoid premature ejaculation" i just always thought it meant something rather than a quote from some crackhead... |
Death Cab for Cutie – Champagne from a Paper Cup Lyrics | 15 years ago |
Ive seen it said before but damn, "Think I'm drunk enough to drive you home tonight. I'll keep my mouth kept shut." Fucking A! What a genius way to express some feelings towards someone. |
Ugly Casanova – Diggin' Holes Lyrics | 15 years ago |
the only version ive heard of this song is a live version i got off limewire (might be the only version) but my god for a live show it was DAMN good! sounded like it was right out of the studio, just with an applauding audience |
Modest Mouse – The View Lyrics | 15 years ago |
i tried learning this song on the guitar and the main riff is bloody difficult as hell. thought i couldnt do it but after a while i finally got it (no thanx to the guitar tabs people posted on ultimate-guitar.com; they all sucked lol) and now im happy =] great lyrics, great message, great instrumentals, great song |
Modest Mouse – Custom Concern Lyrics | 15 years ago |
i would love to write that on the bathroom wall, just because modest mouse is simply but extremely and supernaturally musically adept, but i honestly still dont understand what it really means help? |
Modest Mouse – Make Everyone Happy/Mechanical Birds Lyrics | 15 years ago |
i just realized the other day that the insane guitar towards the end of the song sounds just like mechanical bird chirps haha a connection maybe?... no shit i wish i knew how to make my guitar squeal and bend and chirp like isaac makes it |
Modest Mouse – Novocain Stain Lyrics | 15 years ago |
i agree with "milkmit" of 05 when he says that its "interchange plazas and malls..." cuz ive been listening and im positive he says malls in the plural, and it wouldnt make sense to say "interchange causes a malls"... then again its modest mouse, so anything goes really lol |
