ok, dmbislove41, i agree 10000000% with what you said. everything you wrote, is exactly what i would say if i had the time to write that much. and i am going to repost it because i agree with it that much. So here it is AGAIN!: 'This response is to Chumscrubber and to anyone else who would like to tell me I am both unintelligent and/or uninformed because I listen to the Dixie Chicks or support anyone else who speaks out. How do you say we have no justification for these statements? It sounds to me that you like to think everyone who has a different view than you is so uninformed but I do not see any evidence of you understanding ANYTHING that is going on with this war. I am sure that President Bush is perfectly qualified for his position of commander and chief but there is no question that he has let us down in so many ways. For someone that “qualified” it’s very unfortunate. How can you say that the Dixie Chicks have used this “incident” to their advantage? I hardly think that having people actually HATE you, destroy your records, refuse to listen to radio stations if they play you, and especially want to KILL you would be something to use as an advantage. I do not think they are trying to make it seem like they have been attacked, although I believe they have been. I would suggest you watch the documentary Shut Up & Sing. You can fast forward through any part that is actually about their music if you don’t like it. I think the whole point of the documentary is to show how out of proportion this whole entire thing has become and just how ignorant some people can actually be. One man in the documentary even says “I Believe in freedom of speech, but for God’s sake don’t do it in public!” Now, I’m not even sure what that man even means by that remark. Another woman even tries to tell her young child to say that he hates the Dixie Chicks…”Say it, Say you hate the Dixie Chicks.” How someone breeds hate into a child like that makes me SICK. I’m not sure if even half of those people even know what Natalie Maines said. That seems to be a bigger problem to me than any of the “altering of the mind” in the youth that you speak of. And to say that its okay to have an opinion but to always incorporate it into your music defeats the purpose of music, interesting opinion, that actually made me laugh, what exactly do you think the purpose of music is? I guess singing about something you feel strongly about is just downright silly huh? I must also add that although your comment is comedy the Dixie Chicks did not plan to sing about politics. They were thrown into it unwillingly after they said their comment. Politics were never incorporated into their music till afterwards. Also, telling me I need to rethink my life because I listen to the Dixie Chicks also made me laugh more than the previous. I believe you have bigger problems than I do. We sound like morons? Hilarious! Also, to say that because they were in another country they were scared is absolute bogus! The statement was said on the eve before the war in London. I’m sure she did speak without thinking, because who knew it would turn into something so silly, but she was just saying what was on her mind! They were never uninformed or unintelligent which is exactly why something like that came out of her mouth. Also referring to your statement “People who act in professional matters will laugh in their faces and say they are trash,” sounds real professional to me. And my last and final point…you say “Go ahead and sing all day, noone hears you…” well I guess that’s why all their success came from absolutely no radio support and they won five Grammys and all the comments on this page is because NOBODY HEARS THEM. personally, and my opinions only: -i love this song -i like the chicks -i do not a care for bush -i like courtesy of the red white and blue and toby and dont see the racist side of that comment -i dont agree with the chicks about CotRWaB, but respect them for expressing their opinion -i think about their F U T K shirts, were a bit much since they were targeting one person -it is a free country to speak your mind [good for everyone who does] i dont think of this song as just them opposing the govt. i think it has a bigger meaning that. to me it means that everyone makes mistakes and then regret what they have done and would like to move on and forget anything happened, but its not that easy. the message is not 'go against our govt.' its speak your mind and stand up for what you believe. the line 'shut up and sing or my life will be over,' think about it. if anyone has a problem with this song, the chicks, technically are singing, yet still expressing how they feel, which in this country, THEY HAVE THE RITE TO DO. |
