The Beatles – I Want You (She's So Heavy) Lyrics 13 years ago
This is by far the greatest most simplistic love song EVER.

god I love how it starts and flows, and such little lyrics to carry it around, but you don't even think about that while listening to it, I just have this horrible urge to just rock my head back in forth in the best swaying possible.

It's so perfect sounding, It's really shocking. It's the best short song that really is a love song and yet it has been analyzed over things like drugs? it makes sense I guess.

This song.. man this song.

It's so heavy.

The Killers – All These Things That I've Done Lyrics 13 years ago
Reading this, I totally agree.
It fits the redemption factor of the song, it's about a guy who's live a hard life of pain and regret. He's made bad decisions and just wants to stand up and let go, move on and do something actually 'good' in his life.

He's desperate to change his life so much that (even though he might really believe) he's willing to seek help from something higher then himself (god?)

When there's nowhere else to run
Is there room for one more son
One more son
If you can hold on
If you can hold on, hold on

If I can't find anyone else to help? can you?

I wanna stand up, I wanna let go
You know, you know - no you don't, you don't
I wanna shine on in the hearts of men
I want a meaning from the back of my broken hand

I want to drop all the horrible things that have happened, you can't understand it.. I want to be known for the good I've struggled with.

Another head aches, another heart breaks
I am so much older than I can take
And my affection, well it comes and goes
I need direction to perfection, no no no no

He feels as though he has caused so much trouble and ache that he feels it's far too much.

I always heard the affection part sounded like reflection, if i'm wrong i'm wrong but it kind've made sense, either way. It's like he doesn't know who or what he is, he can't feel the same all the time, he wants direction to a good life that wown't conflict with his past.

I've got soul, but I'm not a soldier

He's got the soul to change to do something, but he lacks the drive/ability to do something about it and he needs help.

Over and out, last call for sin
While everyone's lost, the battle is won
With all these things that I've done
All these things that I've done
(Time, truth and hearts)
If you can hold on
If you can hold on

This is his last chance, if he can hold on, he can win the battle and feel better after it all.

Dio – Holy Diver Lyrics 13 years ago
Tjodalv has got something there and I really believe in reading a little of his post (although it is pretty long >_>; ) I very much so agree.

It's a bout taking hold of life as a whole, good and bad, and just living on knowing things are right as they are.

The Holy Diver is a person who is holy but is falling from grace, someone who looks down on themselves despite their obvious holiness.

Their life is in sense 'The Tiger' in the song and their ability to grasp it fully.

you can see the tiger's 'stripes' which are cleary the markings left by the darkness they see on themselves, however, you must also 'know he is clean' as well.

What the artist is trying to tell Holy Diver is to take your life, good and bad, understand it as a whole, take control and get away from the negativity in life, stop dwelling in the past and make something of what you have now.

"Between the velvet lies,
There is a truth that is hard as steel
The vision never dies
Life's a never ending wheel"

In the end, life goes on.

"Jump on the tiger, you can feel his heart but you know he is mean! Some light can never been seen!"
It's okay to be nervous, to be unsure, to feel as though there is no light, sometimes you can't find it. but jump on the tiger anyway.

Take control of your life, RIDE THE TIGER, do not dive into grief and dive into darkness.

and perhaps it's also displaying how they see their loss of faith in eachother, sensing their uncertainty, as if they're putting up hopeful thoughts but they know the other can tell things aren't going to happen how they think they're going to, "Things.. will be fine, heh.. right? damnit... can you read my mind?"

From hearing it today and reading the lyrics over, and well, a feeling of connection through them, I think it's about a girl breaking up with a guy because he's taking it slow, and being relaxed, He never gave up on getting away from their simple lives in a small little town, but he's not pushing it, and she's not having the slow progress, even though he's trying. He's got the confidence to get past everything, a certain faith that things will go well, and she's losing it.

"It's funny how you just break down, waiting on some sign.
I pull up to the side of your driveway, with magic soaking my spine."

Even if it seems impossible, he's still confident and he finds it funny how easily she gives up on trying and is waiting on something miraculous to happen. (Perhaps she had the confidence first, and he was the one waiting around, and they swapped ideals? )

The slow decline of faith from the both of them of going anywhere in life is what is slowly pulling them apart.

I recently am going through a breakup where my ex believed we both had something better to achieve seperately, and it really hurt that she gave up on us, and well, it feels as though i'm losing the faith myself.

Red Hot Chili Peppers – Strip My Mind Lyrics 14 years ago
Something about this makes me think of acceptance of the past.
Things have happened, and sure they won't be the same, but there's always the memory, but is the pain of losing that worth losing the experience?

Arthur J did indicate that the boulevard would "never be so full of love and life again."

The song seems to be calling out one's inner struggle and final acceptance of what is and the value and beauty of what happened. " Please don't strip my mind, Leave "Something" behind."

The Beatles – Fixing a Hole Lyrics 14 years ago
I like to think this song is about freedom of the mind,to be who you are without letting outside things 'stop your mind from wandering.'

He's not letting anything change what he's patched up, he's fixing the hole that keeps his mind from wandering and being what it wants to be.

it really doesn't matter if he's wrong, he's right with who he is, where he belongs, he's where he wants to be. people who disagree never get into his door, he doesn't let them bother him.

He's expanding his mind and thoughts in a 'colorful' or creatively different way, and he likes it that way.

He's who he is, and regardless of a little rain, that's who he'll be.

I like to see it in this light cause I can relate with that, the rain can resemble a number of things, stress, pressure, people in general, anything that can stop how freely a person can think.

I can see where people can see the drug influence, you know with some drugs your mind is in a flowing dream,it gives you a high that other people can't really relate to somehow, and it's a new feeling of creative freedom. I don't deny the beatles might have done drugs, and maybe this is about drugs, who knows, but it can be taken in the other ways stated too, don't forget freedom of interpretation. :3

Red Hot Chili Peppers – Otherside Lyrics 15 years ago
I'm not sure if this has been said yet but I really think this song is about regret and moving on. how long will he slide if he continues to do what he does? he doesn't believe it's fair that he can't stop, he wants it all to end,

"Turn me on take me for a hard ride
Burn me out leave me on the otherside
I yell and tell it that
Its not a friend
I tear it down I tear it down
And then it's born again"

He wants to move on, without the regret of what he's done, he just wants it to end.

this could also be put with drugs I suppose but I think everything with regret can be put into it. I agree it can be but I'd prefer to look past that.

"I heard your voice through a photograph
I thought it up and brought up the past
Once you've gone you can never go back
Ive got to take it on the otherside"

He remembers the past that he wishes he still had but realizes that he can't go back after what he's done
once he's gone. he can't go back. he must somehow move on.

"Centuriees are what it meant to me
A cemetery where I marry the sea
Stranger things could never change my mind
Ive got to take it on the otherside
Take it on
Take it on "

It's been forever since his life's been messed up, he feels like it'll end and he'll be alone, but that thought only makes him want to change, he's got to change and move on.

"Pour my life into a paper cup
The ashtrays full and Im spillin my guts
She wants to know am I still a slut
Ive got to take it on the other side"

He's obviously been seeking help with someone (possibly an ex gf? ) telling her everything "spilling his guts" but she doesn't want to listen to his side of the story and wants to know if he's still a 'slut'.

"Scarlet starlet and shes in my bed
A candidate for a soul mate bled
Push the trigger and pull the thread Ive got to take it on the otherside
Take it on the otherside
Take it on
Take it on "

His last hope (gf?) has failed him and he feels more helpless then ever, but still wants to move on.

"
How long how long will I slide
Separate my side I dont
I dont believe its bad
Slit my throat
Its all I ever"

How long can he last like this?
maybe it's meant to be like this.
end it all, that's all he wants.

A song about wanting a fresh start but the past keeps crawling back, very easily associated with drugs.

Red Hot Chili Peppers – Scar Tissue Lyrics 15 years ago
I'm not sure if this point has been posted before or not but I agree with all the solitude and self sorrow posts. "Scar Tissue" could be something that's mentally deep like something painful from someone's past that they don't want to share, or just something painful they believe.and being alone with the point of view they have with life with it, "With the birds I share this lonely view" saying they see the world in the only way 'they' can. like only a bird can see us from above. I believe it's about the frustrating feeling it is to be alone with your thoughts and feel like no one feels the same. truly being alone. "Scar tissue that I wish you saw.. sarcastic Mr. Knowitall" could be a statement of anger to people who seem blind to what's happening around them, like "if only you knew" the rest of the song is the actions and reactions of this helpless person, running around wishing for something doing whatever, even hurting themselves. the certain helplessness and actions of someone depressed and alone.

Flobots – Handlebars Lyrics 15 years ago
To me this song is shouting "Dreams, and knowledge through the years and cold hard reality."
At the begining of the song it starts hopeful with simple dreams and aspirations,

"I can ride my bike with no handlebars, no handlebars " -- > To me this line means, I can live my life without taking hold of reality, I can do anything. Without a care.
this can be supported by the begining of the first verse.

"Look at me, look at me
hands in the air like it's good to be
ALIVE" --> At this point he is enjoying his life and is full of dreams and hopes, as he points out his many skills in the rest of the song he is saying "Look at me! I can do so much and I can be anything I want to be." and the examples shown can be interpreted as something a young man/teen might want to know how to do.Simple tricks but it furthers his curiousity and hope for his life.

The verses that follow are him growing older and still hopeful but more realistic :

"Look at me
Look at me
Just called to say that it's good to be
ALIVE" --- > he is coming to reality and realizing that he is simply glad to 'be' alive, and the verse that follows are what he could do for his life, slowly becoming more elaborate and creative, he is realizing that he must do something big and has the power to do something big, and so ends up realizing he can change the world with a microphone, by leading and controlling, the dreams of the young have become too simple, and so he does more and slowly learns power to control.

"Look at me
Look at me
Driving and I won't stop
And it feels so good to be
Alive and on top " -- > He has become power hungry, he keeps going and he will not stop, it feels too good to be ALIVE AND ON TOP.

The rest of the song is him abusing his newfound power and control to do as he likes and inevitably end the world if he liked, doing all he has the power to do because of the reality that he could, and in that destroying his small hopes with greed and power.

The irony of it all is wrapped up in the end of riding his bike with no handlebars, meaning that there is hope for the simple dreams, and how greed and power can corrupt innocent little dreams that sprout from such little accomplishments.
