While you may not personally think this way, most religious people do and they use their religion to force their morals and values on others. If everyone were just spiritual and kept their beliefs to themselves instead of throwing them up all over government and such, then this world would be a better place. Catholicism, like all organized religion, is a disease...sometimes it's dormant and may even seem like it doesn't affect you at all, but when it does it causes complete and utter chaos. |

You can all try to defend Catholicism as much as you want, but the intelligent people understand that a person with religion is like a child and his security blanket - it can get dirty and smelly and have holes in it and can eventually make him sick if he keeps clinging to it with all the disgusting things it has accumulated over the years, but he won't let it go out of fear that without it, he won't survive. Open your eyes people, it's time to stop believing in fairy tales and start believing in ourselves. You will be surprised how much your self-esteem improves once you start giving yourself more credit and stop giving it to a higher power, especially for the accomplishments in your life (but conveniently, not the bad things...those are usually attributed to human error. hypocritical, to say the least.) |

I used to be Catholic/Christian as well, participating in all the rituals, following the rules, knowing the religion, etc... so therefore, what I say about it has merit (is essentially your argument, right?) and I say it was no different than any other cult in the world. Some good things can come out of religious belief, sometimes. but most of the time, it's detrimental to the world, especially when establishment is involved. God may not be the one telling us to fear him (because it has not been proven that anyone ever has heard the voice of god or seen him) but the majority of his deluded followers are sure spreading that message.

never read whatever this "autostraddle" and never heard of marie lyn bernard, so you are the idiot who assumed everything here. i formed my own opinion based off what i have heard in her other songs (one of them being "you belong with me" where the girl opposite of her is obviously a "slut" because she wears "high heels" and "short skirts")
i am just saying, the message of the song would have been good and that part about her friend giving "everything" could have been worded better had she not been talking about viginity. But then again, her lyrics could have been written by a fourth grader. |

First of all, I have to say that B.O.B annoys the shit out of me in this song. I'm hearing Bruno Mars singing his part all wonderfully like "Beautiful girls, all over the world" and then I keep hearing this annoying "Girls. Yes. Alright. Nothin. You. Babe. Yea. Alright." interjecting and throwing off the melody. That is number 1.
Number 2 is in the beginning of the song, B.O.B. is rapping about how he had a lot of girls in the past and that he made mistakes, but he doesn't sound remorseful at all about it. He sounds more like "oh yea. I fucked that girl. Her too. And that one. You know I fucked a lot of girls from all over the place? I got more pussy than an old crazy lady. Yeaaa I was a real pimp wasn't I? Haha ahhh, but now it's different because you are my girl now. [Not even that he loves her cause real men don't tell their partners they love them right?]Hey babe, don't make a big deal out of this, you don't want to embarrass me like those ho's you see on reality TV, just get over it, I fucked some girls, but it's ok babe cause I'm fucking you now, you got a hot body that I fuck rerally good, so don't be jealous."

her songs as dull, lame, and uninspiring as usual. she plays the part of the nerdy girl (but she actually is not nerdy at all, she is just a virgin who thinks she is persecuted because she wants to be pure, martyr complex, blah blah) and she likes this guy who is her friend, but he is with another girl who, because she looks like she is not a virgin, is labeled as a bitch (because all bitches are whores and all whores are bitches, she is unclean, blah blah) and in the end he ditches the bitch slut he is with to be with the white, blonde, pure angel that is, taylor swift. basically a wonderful example of a slut-shaming song, and one that depicts potentially ethnic women (may not have dark skin but her darker features than taylors are obvious, which implies as much) as dirty while white women are clean :) |

first of all, what the fuck is wrong with taylor swift for wanting to be in, what sounds like, an abusive relationship? oh, because it's "passionate" i'm sorry, because the two are mutally exclusive right? you certainly cannot ever have passion in a relationship and be happy at the same time, no one does that. she is really a nutcase, she sings about how she misses yelling and screaming and cursing at the person she is supposed to love and a bunch of other stupid themes appear in her songs (virginity, pureness, slut-shaming, traditional values, God, etc) and it's no coincidence that she mixes borderline domestic abuse in there as well, since women are supposed to submit to men after all. i'm not saying fights dont happen in relationships, or that if they do happen then it's not a good relationship. but what she seems to be talking about is "we fight and scream and yell and i cry and then he hugs me and its all better until the next time" - if a psychologist were to analyze this song they would find her to be kind of insecure and submissive to the point where she confuses "passion" with hate or even violence if it were to get to that point.
second of all, what is wrong with all the people here who like this song? society is extremely screwed up if people hear this song and think "aww how sweet" or "how sad she is stuck with this boring nice guy but misses her bad boy ex" .......um yea, just what the fuck.
i extremely dislike taylor swift, not just because her songs carry subtle, damaging messages for young women, but also because she is unoriginal, all her songs sound the same, and she is somehow extremely popular with all this being the case. why can't there be an actual empowering woman singer out there who gives messages to young girls about pursuing their dreams, using their incredible minds, and actually being fearless instead of being no-brain princesses waiting around for some man to come and save them or fix their life. |
