The Chicks – Goodbye Earl Lyrics 13 years ago
What a song. It is written in such a way that ALL of us think that Earl truly does deserve to die. If nothing else, The Dixie Chicks brought domestic abuse into a new, more public light. And it exemplifies vigilante justice, and how it sometimes works for the best. Sure, this song is a series of hyperboles, but it is still awesome, and has a great meaning behind it. I hate country music, but I love this.

Snow Patrol – Set the Fire to the Third Bar Lyrics 13 years ago
Personally, this song has several meanings.

The most obvious one is one of love. Impossible romantic love. These two individuals are separated by countless miles, whether figuratively or literally. They are passionately in love with one another, but cannot be together. These two individuals both want to be together, but cannot. Both of their deepest desires are to sit in front of a fire and just be together. They are devoted to keep trying until the end of time, at whatever consequence. However, unlike most epics, this one does not have a happy ending. They never actually find one another, which is why this is my favorite "bad mood" song. It fits everything so incredibly well.

The second is one of pure desperation. The topic is irrelevant; anyone who has ever desperately desired something that they cannot have can relate to the greater theme of this particular song. You would do whatever it takes to reach this object of lust (be it person, place, or thing), yet still cannot reach it.

I think that everyone has a person that they think about in this song. And that is where the real meaning is. Because whoever that person is, is what the meaning is locked in. That person that you so strongly desire, and yet cannot have for any number of reasons.

Snow Patrol – One Hundred Things You Should Have Done In Bed Lyrics 13 years ago
100 things you should have done in bed
but you never got the chance to try.

That's the correct lyric, as I hear it, anyway.

Snow Patrol – Favourite Friend Lyrics 13 years ago
I take this to mean a physical best friend. As in, the two characters here (the narrator and the friend) are the best of friend throughout their youth, but gradually drift apart in location, etc., but the feeling never changes. And during this separation, the narrator misses his friend, which is how the song ends. At least that's my interpretation of it. Of course, everyone will see it different, but for that meaning, I can relate quite a lot.
