Neil Young – Old Man Lyrics 12 years ago
Like some here say, the song was about his ranch0hand at the ranch he bought at the time. Neil's father left when he was very young. From; Don't be Denied.

When I was a young boy
My Momma said to me
You're Daddy's leavin' home today
I think he's gone to stay
We packed up all our bags
and drove out to Winnipeg.

Absolutely correct. I recently saw an old BBC special on Youtube where he refers to this song a 'new'. (WOW!!!). Before he performs the song he says he bought a Ranch and the song was about the old ranch-hand that was running the place when he bought it.

Neil Young – Cortez The Killer Lyrics 12 years ago
I couldn't agree more. My all-time favorite Neil Young song AND favorite sing. I would like this to be played at my funereal.

I thought that I was one of the few who loved Ambulance Blues.

Right on Freebird. Covers hardly ever live up to the original. The opening of Neil's version is hypnotic. This is my all-time favorite Neil Young song and Album and i have a lot of favorites.

Neil Young – Danger Bird Lyrics 12 years ago
This song is about being betrayed by his lover who slept with someone else. He is the Danger Bird. The pain of her betrayal has turned his wings to stone. But yet he is strong enough to fly away, even with stone wings. As a double Scorpio, I have a unique insight into his lyrics. The album has other songs that address this;

Barstool Blues
Pardon My Heart
Looking for a Lover

Gary Jules – Mad World (Tears for Fears cover) Lyrics 12 years ago
I don't think this has to do with a funeral at all. This isn't a temporary feeling he's having at the moment of a funereal This is his depressed perception of the world (the dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had). So the best dreams of his entire life were about dying. This is a life perception.

I think you have captured the essence of this song very well. First time I heard this song was while watching Donnie Darko. It hit me then but I didn't know the lyrics. I eventually found the song on youtube and found the lyrics. This song moved me on a very deep level. Once about a week afterward, I listened to it over and over one afternoon, FEELING the words, and suddenly started sobbing....uncontrollably for about 5 minutes. I have battled bouts of depression for the last 20 years or so and a ot relates to my childhood I discovered from 3 1/2 years of therapy.

Once again, nice interpretation.

Gary Jules – Mad World (Tears for Fears cover) Lyrics 12 years ago
This is one depressed dude who feels that it is all the same, that there is no joy or happiness. And he projects these feelings onto the world he sees all around him. People living pointless lives. He feels this is because of the way he was raised as a child and how children receive horrible parenting in general. He is so depressed that his 'best' dreams are about dying, about ending it and stopping the pain.
He was not loved or comforted as a child and so was nervous when he first went to school and did not know anyone. His teacher did not bother to notice him either. So he grew up as this sad man bereft of love.

This song moved me deeply the first time I heard it while watching Donnie Darko (a perfect match btw).

I listened to it over and over yesterday and finally burst out in tears progressing to wracking sobs as I identified with the child. I found this version much superior to the Tears for Fears version. The piano is haunting.

This song brings to mind The Beatles Eleanor Rigby.
